Easter A Time of Renewal and Promise Life is busy, often too busy. We know that in the frantic effort to keep up with all the things we have to do we often neglect the things we want to do; those things that are important to us, but we just can’t find time for. These important things relate to our families, our friends, our communities, and to our souls. This is why religious festivals like Easter have always played an important part in the life of the Christian church. They are times for us to stop being busy and start giving our attention to some of the important things that we have been neglecting. What I would like to suggest is that even if you already have “booked” this Easter weekend with catch-up stuff, such as assignments, odd-jobs, and family time, that you find some time to also catch-up with God. Book it in. Perhaps it means attending an Easter Service with family and friends or getting away from everything for an hour of “God and you” time. Maybe it even means missing the first half of a footy game. However you do it, find space to give your attendance to Easter. Easter is a time of renewal and of promise. With the Resurrection of Jesus, God has made all things new. The Apostle Paul calls the Resurrection of Jesus the beginning of the “New Creation.” It is a New Creation that we are a part of but as we look around us we see that all things have not yet been made new. Has God’s promise failed? No! The Resurrection of Jesus is proof that God cannot be stopped; even by hate and death. Renewal and Promise. That is something worth taking time to consider this Easter. Rev Dr Stephen Spence Deputy Principal (Academic) Tabor Adelaide Student Art Exhibition Shirley Ginsberg, Tabor student and artist, will be showcasing her artwork in a Retrospective Exhibition. It will be held at Gallery M in the Marion Cultural Centre from the 13th of April to Sunday the 22nd of May. The exhibition, titled “Reminiscence”, includes paintings, drawings, silks, assemblages and sculptures. Opening night is on Friday the 13th of April at 7.00pm and will include guest speaker, educator, artist and historian, Dr Stephanie Schrapel. Entry is free and all are welcome. If you wish to chat to Shirley about her work she will also be visiting the Gallery on Sunday the 22nd of April from 2.00 pm for relaxed and informal talks. At present Shirley studies History externally at Tabor and is currently in her third semester. She mentions her interest in history provides the much needed mental stimulation she craves and is a passion only second to her art. Whilst her ‘Reminiscence’ exhibition will make the month of April a very special one for Shirley, it will also see her mark another remarkable milestone; her 80th birthday. She comments, “It should be a fantastic month. I see the exhibition as a very special present to myself.” Tabor wishes Shirley a very happy 80th birthday and all the best for her ‘Reminiscence’ exhibition. Easter A Time of Renewal and Promise

Life is busy, often too busy. We know that in the frantic effort to keep up with all the things we have to do we often neglect the things we want to do; those things that are important to us, but we just can’t find time for. These important things relate to our families, our friends, our

communities, and to our souls.

No! The Resurrection of Jesus is proof that God cannot be stopped; even by hate

and death.

Renewal and Promise. That is something worth taking time to consider this Easter.

I see the exhibition as a very special present to myself.”

Tabor wishes Shirley a very happy 80th birthday and all the best for her ‘Reminiscence’ exhibition.

HEIA Student Resek Scholarship

Congratulations Meredy Archer

Tabor Adelaide would like to congratulate Tabor student, Meredy Archer, for being awarded the HEIA (Home Economics Institute of Australia) Resek Scholarship. The Resek Scholarship is open to full or part-time undergraduate students, in their second year or later, undertaking a Home Economics course within a South Australian tertiary institution. The award is granted on the basis of academic excellence and is designed to encourage undergraduate training of home economics, whilst providing monetary support.

Meredy began her studies at Tabor in 2009 and will complete her Bachelor of Education in Middle Schooling in October this year. Her two majors are Home Economics and History. Meredy comments on why these two specialisations are important to her. “When you combine the two majors, looking at the history of clothing, food and family dynamics- child studies and nutrition included, we gain a better understanding of the world we live in and where we have come from. Hopefully this enables us to move forward in creating a better world to live in, as we reflect Christ in all that we do.”

As well as fee help, the scholarship also includes a funded ticket for each award recipient and a guest to attend the World Home Economics Day Brunch. This year it was held on the 24th of March at the Adelaide Convention Centre and Meredy choose to take fellow Tabor Home Economics student, Jason Schulz. Each year there are 100-150 teachers and professionals in attendance, which offers awardees an excellent opportunity to network with other like minded individuals.

Tabor wishes Meredy all the best for her upcoming graduation and congratulates her on such an outstanding achievement.

Tabor Welcomes New Board of GovernorsTabor Adelaide would like to welcome Ursula Frank and Colin Pearce to the Tabor Board of Governors. We are truly blessed to be working with members who bring such a breadth of experience and knowledge to the University.

Ursula Frank, who joined Tabor in late 2011, is a qualified German/English translator and has accreditation in the fields of Education, Management and Work Place Training and

Assessment. She has worked extensively in the field of education as a secondary school teacher, a University tutor and a TAFE lecturer. In these settings she has also acted as a director, researcher, project manager and University school manager. Further to this, Ursula held the role of Executive Dean at the Australian Lutheran College and the position of Senior Officer and Acting State Coordinator at the Drug Education Network in Hobart, Tasmania. Her love for the German language has also seen her both study abroad in Germany and act as the facilitator for student exchange programs herself.

Currently, Ursula works as School Manager of the School of Electrical and Information Engineering at the University of South Australia. We are pleased that Ursula’s presence will create additional gender balance on the Board and we look forward to her vast experience and knowledge providing further enrichment to Tabor.

Colin Pearce, Tabor student and published author, joined the Tabor team in March this year. Colin has studied at a number of institutions to gain accreditation in Education and Theology and is currently completing a Master of Arts in Creative Writing here at Tabor. He has worked as a teacher, sales manager, radio presenter, trainer and author. Currently he works as the director of his own company, Colin Pearce and Associates, which offers franchisee training and motivational speaking. Colin has presented to trainees around the world, delighting audiences with his humour, wit and innovative ideas. His experience in management and as the director and participant on a number of boards is also noteworthy. We look forward to the knowledge, humour and spiritual guidance Colin will bring to Tabor.

Tabor Adelaide is pleased to have two people of such a high calibre join the Tabor Board of Governors and we offer our warm welcome.

Intercultural Studies Lunchtime Conversations

Graduate StoriesDuring each semester Tabor welcomes a number of Christian cross-cultural workers and Indigenous Christian leaders as part of the Intercultural Studies Lunch Conversation program. The speakers, hailing from the 6 continents of the world, share their experiences and offer insight into mission work around the globe. The focus of the conversations is for mission-minded staff and students to explore deeper missiological issues with experienced practitioners, whilst hearing some amazing stories.

On Thursday the 22nd of March, Tabor had the pleasure of inviting Trish Reynolds, a Tabor graduate from the 90’s, to speak. During the session she was able to share her experiences about working in an Orthodox context in a post-communist European country. After completing her Associate Diploma in Christian Counselling at Tabor in 1994, Trish went on to work for youth With A Mission as a missionary in Russia and most recently in Ukraine. Now based in Kiev, Trish serves at the School of Biblical Studies, which offers an in depth Bible course for people studying for work and personal purposes. The course offers a teaching style which is both inductive in approach and relational. Trish explains why, “When students first come to us, both in Russia and the Ukraine, they have come to expect a wide gap between themselves and authority figures. Closing that gap and focusing on cooperative learning practices is something I strive for in my teaching every day.”

Trish also shares why she continues to choose the work she does and why she remains passionate about it. “I want to help people grow in their relationship with God, for them to know who God is and his love for them. I want people to have access to truth, especially the truth that’s contained in God’s word. By serving God in Ukraine, there are many ways I can invest in the lives of people and I can see the evidence of how God is transforming lives.”

Currently Trish is one of over 18,000 staff and Christian volunteers working in more than 180 countries for yWAM. Just like yWAM Trish strives to change lives through training, by assisting the needy and spreading God’s word. Tabor would like to thank Trish for her

visit and insights, and congratulate her on her achievements thus far. We are sure she will continue to make a positive difference for many more years to come.
