  3. 3. Lesson Objective
    • The lesson is designed to give the student a broad view of the best filmmaking, vocabulary of film familiarity, and develop research, collaboration, critical thinking, self-assessment and presentation skills.

    • Students collaborate on a team.
    • Students start a course journal.
    • Students prepare a presentation of their work, showing their comprehension and creative perspective by presenting a Film Critic skit.
    • Students write self-assessment

    • Class suggestion and complaintbox
    • Team project bins or boxes to collect all team centered source material

    • Use handout 1 to review the Blockbusterfilms of 2005
    • Rank the films in order of your preference
    • Pick one of the movies from the handout and answer think sheet 1:
    • The You-Saw-The-Movie-Wore-The-Shirt-Got-The-Trading-Cards Questionnaire

    • We are going to get an introduction to the movie business and what characteristics contribute to making a successful film.

    • Why do you think some movies rake in millions of dollars while other movies do not?
    • Favorites?

    • The teacher will listen for key words:Story, Cast, Direction, Costumes, Music, Special Effects,Action,Acting and write them on the board.

    • Watch the video trailers and answer the think sheet 3 and 4 questions
    • Write a Movie Review
        • Save links for video film trailers, film reviews, cast pictures, behind the scenes pictures, for easy inclusion in your film critic presentation.
  12. 12. Divide into 2 Improv Teams
    • Divide class into 2 equal teams
    • Practice Improv Exercise for team building
    • Machine Parts improv exercise
    • One student moves mechanically, next student adds to first move with another mechanical move until first team is a fully functional machine.
    • Second team replaces a machine part action with a new action one student at a time, until a new machine is created.

    • Filmmaking is ultimately about teams.
    • This course is better actualized with:
    • Large class sizeand access to a computer lab
    • 10 or more computers in class.
    • If no internet: class works with video/dvd player and poster boards.
    • Access to word for writing is required. Teams can work together to complete assignments if computers are limited.
