Despite having a shareable meme-like design, Leninade has only slightly more of a digital persona that Vladimir Lenin did during his rule in the early 20th Century. Their website features a note that states that there will be a “Buy Leninade Here” button soon, yet hasn’t been updated in two years. While perhaps this is just because we are in year two of some sort of a Lenin-style Five Year Plan to update their website, the lack of a sale button makes their distribution significantly more difficult, and leading to an identity crisis. By constricting their visibility to customers that are window-shopping the bottom of a grocery store’s refrigerator, Leninade is limiting itself to being a novelty gift that high schoolers give their AP Euro teachers. The true, marketable identity of Leninade is as a hilarious chaser for vodka, and they need to exploit that in more ways than two sentences on a website that looks like it was made in 2003.

5 YEar Plan:A new, updated website featuring a series of mixed drinks that incorporate Leninade (and a working sale button). All of the created mixed drinks on the website will further the rugged-Russian theme based on their names. Customers will have a chance to become part of the Iron Veil by submitting their own Russian drink.

This is a party drink in more than just the political way. Leninade is ideal for themed partygoers, as well as bar hoppers trying to feel less emasculated by the fact that they are drinking a form of lemonade at a pub. Marketing towards vodka drinkers will not decrease sales towards minors/political humorists, as they will continue to be drawn in by the bottle’s unique design and family-friendly communist themes.

Why join theRevolution:

Communists are all about revolution! Also, among the 200 total words on their website is the suggestion to make mixed drinks with Leninade. This is a brand that is fueled by its ridiculousness, and there are few things in this world that will make people quite as ridiculous as vodka. Furthermore, who doesn’t love Russia in 2013?

Comrades:

Manifesto:Novelty items need multiple uses to be long lasting. The early 20th Century communism identity of Leninade is great to catch people’s attention. However unless the consumer sees a use for the product beyond being a funny addition to their bottle collection or for picking up that cute communist chick/bro from a Human Rights class, Leninade will remain a one-time gimmick in their mind.

Digital. Digital. Digital. The bottle’s design and copy fits perfectly into humor websites such as Reddit. Further, by making the “Russian Drink” design contest voter based, it is likely to be shared on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Beyond entering the digital age, the sarcastic political identity of Leninade makes it an excellent sponsor for satire news sources such as “The Seattle Stranger” and “The Oregon Commentator.” Also, bears on unicycles wearing shirts with the Leninade logo on it would really help define the brand’s Russian theme.
