LEADERSHIP

What is Leadership :Leadership is a process of influencing individuals and group towards set goals .

Within a cricket team ,there is 2 types of leadership role. Informal Formal

Informal roles are those that emerge within the results of interaction between teammates and demand of the game . it helps for the tone of the team .

Formal leadership are those that are prescribed or awarded which includes coaches, Caption ,vice captain .

Effect of leadership in cricket:There are 4 main effects .

First one is the degree to you as individual .show Leadership both on and off field.

Second one is the degree to which you are well led by your captain in the team .

Third one is as a bowler you should take the lead in arranging your fielding .

Last one is the leadership and direction offered by coach .

An effective captain is invaluable to the team and its performance outcomes .which will seek to lead by example ,to motivate and to inspire the team for successive performances.

Ricky Ponting:Ricky Thomas Ponting was the captain of Australia

team (both in test and ODI ) during its golden era .(2002 -2011).

He was a right arm bats man , close catching

and slip fielder , and right arm medium part time

bowler .

He is the only captain who led his side to win

cricket world cup for continuesously 2 times

i.e.,2003 and 2007 .

About Ricky Ponting.Born in Tasmania on 19 dec,1974 .

Introduced to cricket by his father Graeme Ponting and uncle Greg Campbell.

He played for u-11 and u-16 domestic team during 1985-86,where he made century.

His domestic performances was rewarded when he was selected for national ODI side in 1995 .

Debut against South Africa in New Zealand ,where made his team win on difficult batting pitch.

As national side captain :o In 2002, ponting was elected as skipper of national of ODI side .

oWon first ODI series under his captaincy against South Africa on their soil.

oPlayed a prominent role in test series ,like scoring unbeaten century to ensure Australia for win a test by 4 wicket in South Africa .

oAlso prominent in the 3-0 white wash against Pakistan on a neutral territory.

Achivements:Awarded as “Wisden cricketer in the world” in 2003 .

“Allan border medalist “ a record for 4 times in 2004,2006,2007,2009 .

Australia's best test player in 2003,2004 ,2007 and best OdI player in 2002,2007 .

About his captaincy :

Ponting often criticized for his lack for imagination in his captaincy ,though player who played under him say he is good captain .

According to former player jusin langer ,”he is a quite inspirational leader, whether its in fielding practice ,or anywhere else. He handle himself as well as others very well”.

A quotes by Ricky Ponting ,” I was always fiercely determined and driven to succeed.”

Finally ,ponting took retirement on 12 feb,2012 against India.
