A Word from our Pastor
We at FBC Sumrall are experiencing and enjoying the blessings of God! New members are joining and people are making decisions to follow Christ as Savior and Lord. Even still, our church faces challenges as we near the mid-point of 2019. As of June 23, we are $17,070 behind budget needs in our financial receipts for 2019.
Will you join me in examining our personal giving levels to ensure that we are investing biblically in what God is doing through our church? God has been so good to us. We will never be able to out-give what He has given to us. Why should we give the Lord a tithe as the Bible commands each believer? Let me make a few suggestions:
First, Chr istians should give the tithe (10% of their income) as a recognition of God’s ownership of everything. God created the heavens and the earth. He owns the “cattle on a thousand hills.” He has graciously given us an abundance of material and spiritual blessings. Each time I place my family’s tithe in the offering plate, I say “thank you” to the Lord who has given me far more than I’ve ever deserved.
Second, Chr istians should tithe because blessings are dependent upon our obedience. When we are obedient to “bring all the tithes into the storehouse,” the Lord says He will “open for you the windows of Heaven and pour out for you such a blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it” (Malachi 3:10).
Third, Chr istians should tithe because it br ings glory to God. When Christians give faithfully and biblically, several benefits follow. The Gospel goes all over the world through our missions efforts. We fund ministries to children, students, and adults in our own church and community. People are changed eternally as they trust Christ for salvation. God gets glory to Himself. How does it begin? It begins with our own commitment to obedience to God by recognizing His ownership and responding by giving the tithe to Him. Will you join me in this spiritual adventure?
Blessings,
Pastor Philip Cooper
