Michigan Licensing Requirement Proposed Changes We have one of the lowest licensing standards of any state in terms of “required” hours. Sentiment is strong among Realtors that more education and a more applicable curriculum will result in more pro- fessionalism. A Michigan Association of Realtors Presidential Advisory Group was formed in 2011 to examine the current license laws in the state and rec- ommend needed changes. Those recommendations were then sent to the Real Estate Education Reform Task Force for suggested legislative changes to raise the bar at all licensure levels. The following represents some the more important recommended changes being proposed for legislation in 2012: Real Estate Salespersons 40 hour core course for license examination; Additional 40 hours of approved course topics prior to issuance of license (total 80 hours) Continuing Education for all Licensees 36 total hours over a three-year cycle, which includes 3 hours of legal update annually; 9 hours (18 hours for new salesperson license cycle) of total 36 hours will be measured modules (tested) over 3-year cycle. Michigan Licensing Requirement Proposed Changes

We have one of the lowest licensing standards of any

state in terms of “required” hours. Sentiment is

strong among Realtors that more education and a more applicable curriculum will result in more pro-

fessionalism. A Michigan Association of Realtors

Presidential Advisory Group was formed in 2011 to examine the current license laws in the state and rec-

ommend needed changes. Those recommendations

were then sent to the Real Estate Education Reform Task Force for suggested legislative changes to raise

the bar at all licensure levels.

The following represents some the more important

recommended changes being proposed for legislation in 2012:

Real Estate Salespersons

40 hour core course for license examination; Additional 40 hours of approved course topics

prior to issuance of license (total 80 hours)

Continuing Education for all Licensees

36 total hours over a three-year cycle, which

includes 3 hours of legal update annually; 9 hours (18 hours for new salesperson license

cycle) of total 36 hours will be measured

modules (tested) over 3-year cycle.

updates regarding these proposed

changes to educational requirements for licensees.

We will have a clearer picture of

this matter by the end of the year.

SOCIAL SCENE

In order to accommodate the 135 agents at Keller Williams Lakeside, Team Leader, Tom Kotzian,

had to find another venue to hold the monthly meetings. The company had outgrown its

classroom facility. The March meeting was held at Crank's "Enchantment Banquet Center" in

Shelby Twp, as will be all future monthly meetings. A breakfast precedes every meeting. Featured

speakers at the March 13th Team Meeting were Ralph "Skip" Maccarone

(company attorney and former Shelby Twp. Supervisor) and Lou Ronayne

(Michigan-Northern Ohio Keller Williams Regional Director). 2011 Achievement Awards were

also distributed to the Associates.

Law of the Garbage Truck

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly. So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!" This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.' He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so ... Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!
