“Spirituality is the science that teaches us how to live happily in the material world”-Amma
Sadaguru Mata Amritanandamayi’s most anticipated visit to
Bengaluru was on 24th and 25th February 2011. The staff and the students of
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Bengaluru Campus were drawn to the Ashram by
their sheer love and devotion to their beloved Amma.
On the occasion of her visit, Amala Bharat Clean-up Drive (ABCD), a
pan-India clean-up initiative of Mata Amritanandamayi Math (MAM) was
launched in Bengaluru. This movement was initiated by distribution of
handkerchiefs to the devotees.
In her discourse, she expressed her lamentation over the lack of civic
sense that is rampant in Indian society, and Amma made a clarion call to uplift
India from the clutches of unhygienic civic sense. She also maintained that human
beings, for their greed, have exploited the Nature, creating a serious imbalance.
Many students rendered their selfless service in several seva
activities such as Crowd Control, Catering, Stage Management and Cleaning. The
students performed a musical on ‘Dashaavatara’ which received accolades from
Amma and the audience. The college also received a Certificate of Appreciation
from Poojya Swami Amritageetanandapuri on behalf of the Math.
Amma’s Discourse and bhajans had meditative and cleansing effect
on all present. The staff and the students returned with Amma’s hug, the most
sought and blissful experience.

Workshop on VIRTUAL LABS in Physics and Chemistry
A workshop on Virtual Labs in Physics and Chemistry was organized at
Amrita School of Engineering Bengaluru on 18th February 2011. This workshop is
one in the series of workshops conducted by Amrita University's VALUE (Virtual &
Accessible Laboratories for Universalizing Education) project which is an initiative
of Ministry of Human Resource Department. The objective of the workshop was to
spread awareness regarding the VALUE project to the teachers of various
Engineering, Degree and P.U. colleges of Bengaluru and surrounding area.
Virtual Lab is a widely accepted solution for both remotely delivered
online courses, and for limited access available to remote experimenting to a
single university. Thus, The Amrita University in collaboration with IITs, NIT
(Suratkal), IIIT (Hyderabad), Dayalbagh University, COE Pune, has developed an
online virtual lab to fill this gap and make the teaching learning process more
informative.
Dr. Rakesh S.G., Associate Dean welcomed the gathering and gave a
glimpse of the activities of Mata Amritandamayi Math.
Dr. Krishnashree Achutan, the MHRD Project Coordinator, Amrita
Vishwa Vidyapeetham, gave an introduction to the VALUE Project followed by
hands-on training session in using the Virtual Labs’ website.
The participants from across the state appreciated the software, and
found it to be student-friendly. Some of them were of the opinion that the virtual
lab would serve as a teaching aid for theory classes and pre-lab sessions.
