I hope you all had a lovely break from school and that you managed to rest and recuperate. The teachers all came in during the holiday break and have planned some terrific programs, all of which are sure to inspire and engage the children. We had an assembly on Monday morning to welcome everyone back to school and to revisit our school rules and expectations with all the students. All staff were particularly delighted to note that every child at the assembly was in full school uniform – thankyou very much for your cooperation and support with this. We officially welcomed Kerri Forster to Nar Nar Goon Primary School at the assembly as our newest staff member, replacing Keira Vukovic who will be taking maternity leave after week three of this term. I know that you, along with the children, will make Kerri feel very welcome and I have no doubt that you will find her to be a very competent and dedicated staff member. Sarah Deveny and Rod Wyatt are both adding extra days to their teaching loads to replace Steve Laforet in Phys Ed, for which we are very grateful. FOOTSTEPS DANCE PROGRAM: One exciting program taking place this term is the Footsteps Dance Program. Each grade in the school will be participating in a forty-minute music and dance session every Wednesday afternoon for the term, learning a variety of hip hop and cool dance moves. The children had their first session yesterday and were very excited – it involved a great deal of movement and coordination and although I tried very hard to participate, the children found out that dance is certainly not their Principals forte!! The program culminates in the last week of term with our school disco, which will be hosted this year by the Footsteps team. Ask the children at home to show you some of their new moves – I think you will be impressed! LOST PROPERTY AND SECOND HAND UNIFORM SALES: At the end of last term we had a huge mountain of lost property that we were unable to return to owners as there were no names on any of the items, despite asking all children to look through and see if they belonged to anything. Please make sure that you name your childs clothing and lunch boxes etc so that they can be returned to your childs classroom. Lyndal Ward is currently operating a service to all families in the form of second hand uniform sales. She has many items on sale at a fraction of the cost of new items. All profits go to PAFA and our Fundraising Committee – please speak to Lyndal if you are interested in purchasing any items of second hand uniforms from her. Thankyou Lyndal for this wonderful service to all families at our school. FORTUNE GARDEN: At the last assembly of Term 2 we announced the winning design entry for the Fortune Garden. Joel Russos design (from Grade 5/6C) was unanimously chosen by the SRC, School Council, all staff and the Fortune family as the winning design. Joels entry is pictured: This week we have commenced the works in the Fortune Garden with the installation of the Giant Chess Board in the centre of the block as depicted in Joels design. The East Bunnings Pakenham Store will be supporting the project through their Activities Organiser, Emily Oostveen. Emily will be joining us next Thursday for National Tree Planting Day with a donation of numerous trees and shrubs to be planted on our grounds as her initial involvement with our school. LUNCHTIME AND EXTRA CURRICULA ACTIVITIES: Once again this term we are offering the children some lunchtime activities to provide them with alternatives to being outside in the yard at lunchtimes. Activities include having the Library and the Art Room open, Board games, Chess Club and an indoor game PINSin the Multi Purpose room that the children all enjoy. The senior school will also be involved in Peer Mediation this term and I will be coordinating a Running Club before school with the House Captains. When the opportunity arises, I will also be taking some groups of children across to the Recreation Reserve for football and/or cricket. COMEDIAN/HYPNOTIST FUNDRAISER – FRIDAY NIGHT: I am looking forward to seeing many of you tomorrow night at the fundraising event hosted by BIZARRE GAZZARD”. It should be lots of fun. If you dont have tickets but would like to attend, its not too late- please speak to Briony Dore as we still have some last minute seats available. Please be aware that there will be NO assembly tomorrow due to the set up for this event. Kind Regards, Mrs Fran Van Lambaart 40 kph In Spencer Street At All Times Please note the due to the setting up for the Hypnotist Comedy Night, there will be NO ASSEMBLY TOMORROW AFTERNOON (Friday 21st July)
