Klaxon®

Motor Driven Horn

The A1 series is a signal that sounds the easily recognized and

unique Klaxon audible tone. The sound is produced by the revolu-

tion of a serrated rotor against a hardened steel stud riveted to the

center of a diaphragm.

The A1 is designed for bracket mounting using the supplied

bracket. The signal is supplied with wire leads for connection in an

appropriate electrical box.

Designed for use in industrial areas or high noise, severe weather

environments such as marinas or shipyards.

Sends audio page to, and is powered by the 5540MP-24Y6. UL and

cUL Listed. Input is received from a microphone input or audio pair

signal source such as phone PBX. Indoor, Type 2 enclosure when

Diode PolarizedAC & DC Models

The Edwards Fire Alarm Bells are diode polarized, vibrating bells de-

signed for use with fire alarm control equipment. The gongs are made of

select, alloy steel to sound the loud, resonant tone required in fire alarm

systems. They are epoxy powder coated red.

Supplied mounting plate installs directly on surface or on any single

gang box, or on any 3 1/2" (89mm) or 4" (102mm) octagon, or 4"

(102mm) square electrical box.

For outdoor installation, use Edwards Cat No. 449 weatherproof back

box.

The 438D and 439D fire alarm bells are audible signaling appliances for

installations that operate in conjunction with an installed fire alarm panel

Surface MountSingle-Stroke Chimes

338 & 339 Series

The Edwards 338 & 339 are surface mount AC or DC single stroke

chimes which can be pulsed up to 10 pulses/second. The chimes

are high quality units with underdome construction intended for

heavy-duty commercial and industrial use. The chimes require no

lubrication.

The chimes come complete with an Adaptaplate® mounting plate.

The Adaptaplate mounts on any plaster cover with mounting holes

on 2 3/4" (70mm) centers, on any single gang opening, on any

3 1/4" (83mm), 3 1/2" (89mm), or 4" (102mm) octagon or square

box. Also mounts directly on any wall surface. For flush mounting

use Cat. No. 512-A grille (page 5-10) and P-029522 back box.

For paging and scheduling applications requiring a pleasant note

rent is applied.

Universal Adaptaplate® mounts directly on surface or fits any single

gang box, 3 1/4" (83mm), 3 1/2" (89mm), or 4" (102mm) octogon box, or

any plaster cover with mounting holes on 2 3/4" (70mm) centers. 6"

and 10" bells also mount on 4" (102mm) square boxes.

The DC vibrating bell can be used in outdoor applications when

The Edwards hazardous location fire alarm bell is the finest heavy

duty, hazardous location bell available today. It delivers a distinc-

tive, clear ring that is free of mechanical clatter. Vibrating bells pro-

duce a long, continuous ringing sound. The striker continues to rap-

idly strike the gong as long as current is applied.

The bell has been designed for indoor applications requiring supervi-

sion of signaling circuit field wiring but may be used for unsuper-

vised applications as well.

Mounts to any solid surface using two 3/8" (10mm) fasteners. Each

unit is supplied with wire leads and a sealing fitting for connection to

3/4" (19mm) conduit.

The 439DEX fire alarm bells are ideally suited for fire alarm applica-

Millennium Mini-MiTM

Voice & Tone Generator

The Edwards 5560M Millennium Mini-Mi is a compact tone and

voice generator which is completely modular in construction. The

5560M base unit is supplied with or without a 110 candela strobe.

One of five optional modules may be installed in the base unit.

The 5560M is configured for stand-alone operation when installed

with the 556T-M Tone Module Board. One tone may be dipswitch

selected from a field of 55 tones and will be played whenever power

is applied to the unit. When installed with the 556T-M485 Tone Mod-

ule Board, any of the available 55 tones can be activated over a

RS485 Network. For a complete listing of all 55 tones, see page

4-55.

When configured with the 556V-M Voice Module Board, the unit is

capable of stand-alone voice operation. When power is applied to

the unit it will play up to 20 seconds of one pre-recorded, field pro-

grammed voice message.

The 5560M is capable of system operation when fitted with an au-

dio coupler board. The 556A-M Audio Coupler Board allows the

Mini-Mi to be operated as a system speaker amplifier over any sys-

tem that outputs 10, 25, or 70.7 VRMS. Audio input voltage is se-

lected on the audio coupler through an onboard jumper. The 5560M

Mini-Mi may also be used as a system signal on an RS485 network

using the 556A-M485 Audio Coupler Module Board.

Diode polarized fire alarm models are available with and without the

110 candela strobe. The fire alarm models operate from 16 to 33

VDC and are available in standard white or red Lexan housings.

MOUNTING

The Mini-Mi mounts to any standard 4” (102mm)

backbox and is suitable for outdoor mounting when

mounted to the 449 backbox or any weatherproof

4" (102mm) box.

APPLICATIONS

The 5560M Mini-Mi is ideal for sounding stand-alone

or system tones and voice in factory hallway, office

and personnel areas where the use of large, horn

type devices is not desirable because of sound out-

put and appearance issues. The Mini-Mi may also be

used for fire/emergency signaling applications,

where operation and control of high decibel audio

and voice is required for plant or area-wide tone and

voice notification.

Adaptatone® MillenniumMultiple Tone Signal

The Edwards 5530M Adaptatone Millennium is a heavy-duty indus-

trial, tone-selectable, signaling device capable of producing volume-

controlled, high-decibel tones. It uses a microprocessor circuit to

create 27 distinctive tones, selected by setting a dip switch within

the unit. For a complete listing of all 27 tones, see page 4-55. The

Adaptatone Millennium can be activated from field-wired, normally

open contacts, or from a 24VDC or 120VAC external voltage source

such as an output of a PLC. PLC compatibility assures no addi-

tional loading resistors or relays are required to set up your

Adaptatone.

Selected models are designed to serially connect to RS485 net-

works. The 5530MV-485Y6 additionally has a field recordable voice

feature that allows activation of voice messages over the RS485

network. See connectivity and Activation section for more detail.

Normally open contacts can be obtained from the Cat. No. 5538-4

and/or Cat. No. 5538-4R Adaptatone Signal Actuators. See pg. 4-49.

Designed for industrial applications requiring high decibel output and

microprocessor reliability. Typical applications include emergency

warning systems, plant evacuation and security intrusion alarms,

process monitoring, shift start-and-dismissal horns, and paging sig-

nals.

BELLS & BUZZERS

Edwards B-8698 & B-8699 AdaptaBuzzers are the finest, heavy

duty buzzers available. Sound is produced by the hammer action of

a vibrating armature against the cover and starts and stops instantly

with current impulse. The cover is secured to the unit's cast box by

a cast aluminum threaded ring and sealed with a neoprene gasket.

Two mounting lugs are provided for wall mounting. A 1/2" (13mm)

tapped conduit entrance is provided on one side for field wiring. Wir-

ing connections are made in the base and the cover assembly plugs

into a receptacle in the base.

Ideal for use in areas where a louder signal would be distracting.

Often used for timing, scheduling, paging, and general alarm appli-

cations. Typical indoor and weatherproof installations include con-

struction sites, shipping docks, and paper mills.

The Edwards 869STR and 869DSTR AdaptaBeacon series are

bright, low current, high decibel, surface mount, combination

electronic horn/strobes for indoor, flush mount use. They have been

designed for mounting in a standard 4" (102mm) square backbox

with extension ring (total minimum depth of 3" (76mm)) (not

supplied). Strobe and horn may be operated independently.

The 869DSTR-G1 is a diode polarized 24V DC unit.

The 869STR AdaptaBeacon is for indoor flush mounting in

The Edwards 876 AC & 877 DC Series are low-current, high deci-

bel, vibrating horns for heavy-duty use and is UL listed to NEMA 4X

enclosure requirements. The die-cast weatherproof box has a du-

rable, corrosion resistant, electrostatic heat flowed powder epoxy

gray finish. May be used for indoor applications.

Mount on conduit or to any flat surface. A hole on the top has been

drilled and tapped for 3/4" (19mm) - 14 NPT conduit. Knockouts are

located on the bottom and rear of the unit.

Used where a distinctive, urgent signal is required for outdoor or

single projector vibrating horn for heavy-duty use. The single pro-

jector is designed to channel sound in one direction without decibel

loss. Supplied complete with Adaptaplate® for easy installation.

Electronic Horn

The Edwards 867, 869 and 869D series are low current, high deci-

bel, surface mount, flush or panel mount electronic horns for indoor

use.

The 867 series has been designed for surface mounting with the

gray, corrosion resistant, surface mount box supplied with the unit.

The box measures 5 5/8" (143mm) square by 3 5/16" (84mm) deep.

The 869 and 869D series are designed for flush or panel mounting.

For flush mounting, they mount to a standard 4" (102mm) square

back box with extension ring (total minimum depth of 3" (76mm)).

Back box and extension ring not supplied. For panel mounting, use

only the supplied mounting plate without back box.

decibel panel mount vibrating horns for heavy-duty use. Supplied

complete with gasket and UL listed to NEMA 4X enclosure require-

ments.

Designed for semi-flush panel mounting, using supplied mounting

template, or installation on a 4" (102mm) square box. For NEMA

4X installation, mount to a NEMA 4X enclosure having a flat,

smooth surface using supplied 1/8" (3mm) gasket in accordance

with the installation instructions provided with the unit.

Applications include use in panel boards and switchboards wher-

Adaptatone® MillenniumSystem Master

The Edwards 5541M Millennium System Master is a fully super-

vised personnel notification control system for both emergency fa-

cility evacuation, and non-emergency process control and plant-

wide signaling communications.

The System Master may be used for ancilliary Fire Alarm evacua-

tion by tying into an existing fire alarm system.

The 5532M Series Speaker/Amplifier is used for sound output. Up

to 200 speaker/amplifiers can be connected to the system master.

The System Master is simple to program and operate using a nine-

button keypad and an easy-to-read, 40-character LCD display, with

Dynamic Zone Control (DZC™). DZC enables zone reconfiguration

through a series of simple keystrokes without the need for expen-

sive system rewiring. The System Master may be remotely pro-

grammed from a PC using available software.

Employing both voice and tone to alert, warn and communicate, the

System master features 68 built-in tones, hand-held microphone

operation, and stores up to four, five-second, field-recordable voice

messages for playing over remote speakers. PBX phone paging is

included, so no separate telephone paging system is required. The

Millennium System Master meets all OSHA self-monitoring,

prioritization and standby power requirements, plus the latest UL

standards for evacuation signaling.

Adaptatone® MillenniumCentral Tone Generator

The Edwards 5540M Millennium Central Tone Generator has been

designed for applications where simultaneous signaling of a high

decibel, heavy duty signal is required. The tone generator assures a

synchronous signaling sound from all remote speakers. The Millen-

nium Central Tone Generator produces the 27 standard Adaptatone

sounds. Four tones may be activated from field-wired, normally

open contacts, or a 24VDC or 120VAC external voltage source

such as an output of a PLC.

Normally open contacts can be obtained from the Cat. No. 5538-4 or

Cat. No. 5538-4R Adaptatone Signal Actuator. See page 4-49. The

tones are selected by setting miniature dip switches within the unit.

The programmed tones operate on a pyramid-type priority system.

For more information on priority tone operation and a complete list-

ing of all 27 tones, see page 4-55.

On-site volume control is accomplished by adjusting the conve-

niently located volume control inside the unit.

The 5540M-485Y6 is designed to be connected to RS485 networks,

allowing full serial signaling communication control.

Adaptatone Signaling Systems are designed for industrial applica-

tions calling for high decibel output and microprocessor reliability

combined with simultaneous signal delivery over all speakers in-

cluded in the system. Typical applications include: emergency

warning systems, plant evacuation alarms, security intrusion si-

rens, process monitoring, shift start-and-dismissal horns, and pag-

ing signals.

The Edwards 5530MHV Adaptatone Millennium is a heavy-duty,

high volume, 30 watt, industrial signaling device capable of produc-

ing volume-controlled, high-decibel tones. It uses a microprocessor

circuit to create 27 distinctive tones. A single tone may be selected

by setting a miniature switch within the unit. For a complete listing

of all 27 tones, see page 4-55.

The Adaptatone Millenium can be activated from field-wired, nor-

mally open contacts, or a 24VDC or 120VAC external voltage

Low current, high performance, high decibel signaling appliance de-

signed to function as either a horn or siren by setting an internal,

tamper proof switch. The 5520D is primarily intended for use in ap-

plications requiring electrical supervision of signaling circuit field

wiring. These signals may also be used for unsupervised signaling

applications.

The signal's universal Adaptaplate® mounts directly on walls, or on

any single-gang opening. Adaptaplate speeds installation by allow-

ing the installer to connect all field wiring to the plate and then fin-

ishing the installation by snapping the horn onto the plate. It also

mounts to 3 1/4" (83mm), 3 1/2" (89mm), 4" (102mm) octagon, 4"

(102mm) square boxes, or equivalent fittings. The signal may be

weatherproofed using the Edwards Cat. No. 349 back box (see page

5-10).

Electronic Horn

The Edwards 868 series is a low current, high decibel, weatherproof

surface mount, electronic horn for outdoor or indoor use. It has

been designed for mounting with the supplied weatherproof back

box.

The 868 mounts, using the supplied gasket, to the gray, corrosion

resistant weatherproof surface box supplied with the unit. The box

measures 5 59/64" (150mm) square by 3 13/32" (87mm) deep.

The 868 electronic horn is for indoor and outdoor use wherever a

Klaxet Signals

The Edwards KLAX series is an indoor, projector type signal. The

KLAX sounds the unique Klaxon tone. The sound is produced by

the revolution of a serrated rotor against a hardened steel stud riv-

eted to the center of a diaphragm.

The KLAX is designed for bracket mounting using the supplied

Klaxon®

Motor Driven Siren

The MONO series is a small weatherproof motor driven siren. This

siren’s unique output signal may be pulsed on and off to achieve a

wailing tone. The siren's sound is produced by a multi-bladed, nylon

impeller which pulls air through openings located on the front of the

unit and pushes the air out through radially positioned vents.

The MONO is designed for bracket mounting using the housing

bracket. The signal is supplied with wire leads for connection in an

appropriate electrical box.

Designed for outdoor use. Applications include local weather and

The MTS-Y1 is a durable, multi-application DC audible signal de-

Adaptatone®

Electronic Signal

The Edwards 5533M Adaptatone Signal is an explosionproof,

heavy-duty industrial, tone-selectable, signaling device capable of

producing volume-controlled, high-decibel tones. The signal ac-

cepts up to two contact closures and delivers two audible output

signals selected from the 55 tones available. The two tones may

be selected by setting miniature switches within the unit. One of

the tones can be assigned a priority status to override the other

tone. For more information on priority tone operation and a complete

listing of all 55 tones, see page 4-55.

The electrical inputs activating the Adaptatone Signal are received

The Edwards 5545M Hazardous Location Adaptatone Remote

Speaker/Amplifier has been designed for high decibel system opera-

tion when connected to the 5540M Central Tone Generator or 5541M

Edwards Lumatone signals are designed to demand attention in

quiet and moderate noise areas. The signal’s output can be varied

by controlling the applied voltage. The signal’s low power consump-

tion makes them suitable for battery operated equipment and allows

them to be turned on and off by integrated circuits, SCRs and tran-

Simply unscrew front housing and insert threaded portion through a

The Edwards 5530MD-24AW Adaptatone Millennium is a heavy-

duty industrial, tone-selectable, signaling device intended primarily

for use in fire alarm systems and other applications requiring electri-

cal supervision of signaling circuit field wiring. It uses a micropro-

cessor circuit to create 27 distinctive tones A single tone may be

selected by setting a miniature dip switch within the unit. For a

complete listing of all 27 tones, see page 4-55. The Adaptatone Mil-

lennium can be activated from field-wired, normally open contacts,

or a 24VDC external voltage source such as an output of a PLC or

Fire/Security panel. Normally open contacts can be obtained from

These air horns are for general signaling services. They generate

sound by means of a vibrating diaphragm that modulates the flow of

compressed air into a resonating projector. All horn shapes are

mathematically calculated to amplify sound while closely retaining

Adaptatone® MillenniumLocal/System Signal

The Edwards 5536M Adaptatone Millennium accepts three electri-

cal inputs from the closing of three normally open contacts, or a

24VDC external voltage source such as an output of a PLC, and

delivers three tones from the 27 tones available. One of these in-

puts is a priority signal. The 5536M can also work within an

Adaptatone System, sounding the central tone or voice signal or its

own tone signals. The Adaptatone Millennium System has priority

over the locally initiated contacts. See Adaptatone Signaling Sys-

tem Installation, page 4-56.

Programming the signal for the tones selected is accomplished

through setting internal dipswitches. On-site volume control is also

available by adjusting the internal volume control.

The programmed tones on the 5536M operate on a pyramid-type

The Edwards 5531MV Adaptatone Millennium Voice unit is a heavy-

duty industrial, tone-selectable, signaling device capable of produc-

ing volume-controlled, high-decibel tones and up to 20 seconds of

field recorded voice messages. The Adaptatone Millennium Voice

unit can be activated from field-wired, normally open contacts, or a

24VDC or 120VAC external voltage source such as an output of a

PLC. Normally open contacts can be obtained from the Cat. No.

5538-4 and/or Cat. No. 5538-4R Adaptatone Signal Actuators. See

page 4-49.

The unit uses a microprocessor circuit to create 27 distinctive

tones and store 20 seconds of field recorded voice messages. Mes-

sages and tones may be selected by setting miniature dip switches

within the unit. A total of four messages and tones programmed op-

The Edwards 5540MP Millennium Central Tone Generator, when

used with the 5542RPU Remote Paging Unit, is designed for appli-

cations where voice paging and other audio output are desired. The

paging/voice signal is inputed into the Remote Paging Unit via ei-

ther an audio pair or the 5542MIC series microphone.

The Millennium Central Tone Generator produces the 27 standard

Adaptatone sounds. The tone generator assures a synchronous sig-

naling sound from all remote speakers. Three tones may be pro-

grammed into the Tone Generator at any time. The tones may be

selected by setting miniature dip switches within the unit. The tones

operate on a pyramid-type priority system. The input from the Re-

mote Page Unit has priority over all three tones. The three signals

may be activated from field-wired, normally open contacts or a

Adaptatone® RemoteAmplifier and AudioSignal Converter

The Edwards 5535 Remote Amplifier has been designed to power

remote speakers in Adaptatone system operation. The amplifier

output is 70V line with a maximum of 15 watts.

The 5510M Audio Signal Converter allows signaling flexibility

through the integration of Adaptatone signals into installed paging

systems. The 5510M-25Y6 converts a 25V RMS input into a 10

The Edwards B-8140-M & B-8141-M Mineguard series are quality,

heavy duty buzzers suitable for use on permissible mining equip-

ment. They are available in AC and DC voltages. The sound is pro-

duced by the hammer action of a vibrating armature against the cast

aluminum cover. A one piece cast aluminum cover provides an effec-

tive explosion-proof seal; the seal is secured by a hex screw in the

cover. For power connections, the unit features an installed 33"

(84mm) power cord and conduit hose constructed of flame retardant

tances, the EWS-V3 Series is Edwards newest model. The Cat. No.

EWS-V3 is rated at 112 dB and like most of Edwards outdoor warn-

ing sirens, is Omni-Directional. The EWS-V10 is a battery powered

Featuring the industry’s largest drive motor, this 8 HP, battery pow-

ered rotating siren delivers all the features one expects from a pre-

mium warning device.

Utilizing a 460 Hz tone, the EWS-11's low pitch is designed to pen-

etrate structures and obstacles, making the warning area more

complete. The EWS-11 features the same bullet-proof design and

construction as other Edwards sirens. The EWS-11 uses top of the

line, maintenance free rotating mechanisims and hand rolled, cus-

tom formed projectors.

All exposed siren components are of heavy gauge aluminum alloy

and electro-plated, galvanized steel construction, which are "powder

coated" for the most durable finish available.

The entire mass of the siren is centered over the pole so no stabi-

lizing wires are required. Total shipping weight of the EWS-11 is 385

Edwards most popular mid-sized siren is a proven performer.

Staged horn projectors help organize sound for even distribution

over a large radius. Rated at 115 dB, the EWS-V4 Series is an

omni-directional siren which produces continuous 360° coverage,

making it a superior alternative to a directional beam siren.

The perfect siren for small communities, the EWS-V4 is available in

either single or three phase power and is a single tone siren, pro-

ducing 460 cycles per second. All exposed siren components are of

metal construction, which are “powder coated” for the most durable

finish available. The fan and housing are made of non-corrosive

cast aluminum.

Maximum diameter is 78" (198.1 cm), maximum height is 56"

(142.2 cm), and the maximum mounting base dimension is 19"

(48.3 cm) square. Shipping weight of the siren alone is 325 lbs

Our most affordable dual tone siren, the EWS-V5 Series is de-

signed to excel in almost any application. Its staged horn projectors

provide a large, even coverage area. Rated at 122 dB, the Model

EWS-V5 is an omni-directional siren which produces continuous

360° coverage, a clear advantage over rotating sirens.

The EWS-V5 is available in either single or three phase power. It is

a dual tone siren, employing two rotors with different numbers of

ports to produce a greater range of frequency. One rotor produces

460 cycles per second, and the other produces 920.

All exposed siren components are of zinc plated, steel construc-

tion, which are “powder coated” for the most durable finish available.

The fan and housing are made of non-corrosive cast aluminum.

true workhorse. It is also our most popular dual tone siren. Rated at

122 dB, the Cat. No. EWS-V6 is an omni-directional siren which pro-

duces continuous 360° coverage, making it a superior alternative to

a rotating siren. The Cat. No. EWS-V9 is a battery powered version

of the EWS-V6. The EWS-V9 includes a motor starter, charging

system and battery box.

The EWS-V6 is available in either single or three phase power. Both

the EWS-V6 and EWS-V9 are dual tone sirens, employing two ro-

tors with different numbers of ports to produce a greater range of

Backup Alarms

The Edwards 8000 Series heavy duty backup alarms answers all

your needs with its convenient, compact size, rugged housing and

high decibel output. The 8001-EG die-cast alarm automatically

adjusts its output volume to 10 dB above ambient to compensate

for background noise. Range is 87 to 102 dB.

The 8002-EU has an ABS plastic housing and outputs 97 dB. Long

Term reliability is ensured as a result of its durable and versatile

construction. The alarm mounts in the rear of the vehicle with the

sound opening outward into the hazardous area.

Duotronic®

Horns and Sirens

The 5520 and 5521 Series are low current, high performance, high

decibel signals which may be coded or used as a continuous alarm.

The 5520 Series is designed to function as either a horn or siren by

setting an internal, tamper proof switch. The signal's universal

Adaptaplate® mounts directly on walls, or on any single-gang open-

ing. Adaptaplate speeds installation by allowing the installer to con-

nect all field wiring to the plate and then finishing the installation by

snapping the horn onto the plate. It also mounts to 3 1/4" (83mm), 3

1/2" (89mm), 4" (102mm) octagon, 4" (102mm) square boxes, or

equivalent fittings. The signal may be weatherproofed using the

Edwards Cat. No. 349 back box (see page 5-10).

The 5521 operates as a horn only. It is intended for weatherproof

applications and must be mounted on the supplied Edwards Cat.

No. 349 backbox (see page 5-10) using the universal Adaptaplate®

(supplied).

The 5520 and 5521 Series are used for schools, factories, lumber

yards, and other industrial and commercial installations. The horn

signal is often used for timing, paging, and alarms. The siren signal

is particularly suitable for high noise areas and often used for alert-

ing an evacuation.

Adaptatone® MillenniumRemote Speaker/Amp

The Edwards 5532M Adaptatone Millennium Remote Speaker/

Amplifier has been designed for high decibel system operation

when connected to the 5540M Central Tone Generator or 5541M

System Master Panel. See Adaptatone Millennium Tone Generator,

page 4-28.

The Edwards 5540MV Adaptatone Millennium Central Tone Genera-

tor with Voice messaging has been designed for applications where

simultaneous signaling of a high decibel, heavy duty signal and pre-

recorded voice messaging is required. The tone generator assures

a synchronous signaling sound from all remote speakers. The Mil-

lennium Central Tone Generator produces the 27 standard

Adaptatone sounds and can store 20 seconds of field recorded

voice messages. Four signals may be activated from field-wired,

normally open contacts, or a 24VDC external voltage source such

as an output of a PLC. Normally open contacts can be obtained

from the Cat. No. 5538-4 or Cat. No. 5538-4R Adaptatone Signal Ac-

tuator. See page 4-49.

Messages and tones may be selected by setting miniature dip

switches within the unit. The programmed tones operate on a pyra-

mid-type priority system. For more information on priority tone op-

eration and a complete listing of all 27 tones, see page 4-55.
