They say caulk is a painter’s best friend...so true! Caulk puts thefinishing touch to any paint job.Investment in a caulk gun is a must; it allows you to apply the caulk professionally, unlike those little tubes of caulk. A thin bead of caulk around all the baseboard and along the sides of the windows and doors will drastically improve any room’s appearance. After applying the caulk, run your finger or a damp rag along the caulk, and wait for the caulk to dry before starting your painting project.

Using caulk with silicone is not necessary and can be very difficult to apply. Caulking these areas will also reduce heating costs because small cracks around windows and doors have been eliminated.

What motivates you? Is it money, attention or the need to be loved? Actually, doesn’t it all boil down to love? If only I had more money, then I wouldn’t have to work so hard and I could go out and have fun. I would be the center of attention and everyone would love me.

We work hard to provide for our children and toys for our pets because we love them. We love our home and spend lots of money to make it beautiful. We love ourselves and buy clothes and things that make us feel good. Money does buy love and happiness. Without money, we would be hungry and cold and wouldn’t have time for love.

Is everyone stressed? Lately, everyone I talk to is miserable. They have problems that they need to talk about to everyone they see. What ever happened to putting up a front? Remember the days of hiding your problems and living in denial? Why does everyone need to share his misery? I really don’t want to hear about the nit-picking everyday annoyances that we all experience. It seems as if people lack backbone. Every little thing bothers them. I say, “STOP IT”! Don’t sweat the small stuff. My day is probably filled with things that annoy. I just don’t notice. I’m too busy thinking of the beautiful flowers and listening to a love song. I don’t have time for “OMG did you hear what she said”? I don’t hear what she said; I hear the birds chirping and the cat purring. I look for smiles and kind words. I see a beautiful world full of love.

-Lisa

Every soul needs sunshine and happiness to thrive. Once upon a time, my Happiness died. It was three years ago; I lost someone who made me smile and laugh. He was there to hold me when times were rough and there to hold me when times were good. His smile made me smile and his laughter made him shine. Once upon a time, he was my world... once upon a time. Life goes on and people move forward. Let’s remember to make our own happiness. Let’s remember to shine. Your spouse, your kids, your parents and your best friend all want the best for you. Don’t you want that for yourself? Take the time to tell the people you love that you do in fact, love them. Once upon a time, I told him. He told me, too. Even though he left me suddenly, he knew I loved him and I knew he loved me back. Don’t get me wrong. Plenty of times I couldn’t stand him, but I always loved him. Once upon a time, I was in love. Don’t dwell on the bad; relish the good. It will bring Sunshine and Happiness. “Once upon a time” is still in the cards for me, but my knight in shining armor has turned out to be me.

Nourishing ThoughtsFeedback can be a wonderful thing. Constructive acknowledgement when someone is doing well helps to encourage another in personal and professional endeavors, especially when the path is difficult and lonely. Positive feedback can be as simple as a nod or a smile from an empathic soul who also perseveres. Even the clock on the pool wall seems to smile at me when I manage to swim the fifteen-minute quarter mile daily, whatever my mood. Its silent “hands” push me to swim the second quarter, with greater determination.

Negative feedback from another or self-criticism have

never been proven to boost self-worth, instill a beloved sense of self, or help anyone who is struggling to achieve a goal. While moving towards my best behavior, daily, I stay out of the way of unhelpful critics, including my own meanest self.

Who knew that being selective in choosing with whom to share our aspirations and plans can influence our journey? The wrong “pair of ears”, be it a person who is negative or fearful or one who is overly critical, can be unhelpful at best—or destructive at worst—as we support one another so that we may all live the life we imagine.

An Unapologetic Voice

There is a scene in the movie, “When a Man Loves a Woman”, when Meg Ryan’s husband, Andy Garcia, appears critical of a friendship that is growing between her and some other recovering alcoholics. She looks at him and says, “Whatever you think of these people, Michael, think that of me.”

Once we see ourselves in the mirror of everyone else, we can be as forgiving of our flaws as we would be of those of our best friend. We can also be as nurturing of our best intentions and behaviors as we would be of those we love.

We can also learn to disregard the noise and nonsense of anyone who disparages the efforts and energies we devote to what we love doing; it is likely they do that to themselves, too. Time and energy are too precious to be misspent dancing the “toxic tango”.

“We carve out the world with words; we sculpt our world with deeds.”

Say what?!Some facts about the 1500's: • Most people got married in June

because they took their yearly bath in May and they still smelled pretty good by June. However, since they were starting to stink, brides carried a bouquet of flowers to mask body odor. Hence, the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.

• One entire family took a bath in a single big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of nice clean water. Then all the sons took their turn in the tub, followed by the women and finally, the children. Last of all the babies had their bath. By then, the water was so dirty someone could actually get lost in it. Hence, the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water!"

Dear Darla,My boyfriend said he wants to get back together. I’m not sure if we should. I still love him, but he cheated on me last time. He said he has changed and that he needs me but he still won’t say he loves me. If we get back together do you think he will grow to love me?

-HopingDear Hoping,

Need and love are two different things. If he cheated on you in the past, he will cheat on you in the future. He needs you NOW....but the minute he finds another, he will no long need you. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE. He is a user and your heart is preventing your mind from seeing that.
