Chairman’s CommentsWe are fortunate in Bowling Green and South Central Kentucky to have a world-class university that is an economic engine unto itself. According to one recent study, Hill Toppers drive as much as $674 million in local economic activity, and provide 14 percent of all jobs in Warren County.
Impressive as numbers like these are, the story behind them is
actually even better. Our community is blessed by a truly innovative and collaborative “town and gown” partnership that just a few university communities of our size enjoy. And it comes down to leadership.
Not every university has a leader whose vision of student life and academic excellence is intertwined at the root with its “host” community’s socio-economic progress and well-being. But ours does. Since Dr. Gary Ransdell began serving his alma mater as its President in 1997, over $600 million in campus construction projects have been completed to date. Student enrollment has soared from 14,000 to over 21,000 while both athletic and academic programs racked-up higher scores.
By roasting Dr. Ransdell on July 16, the Chamber honors a leader whose vision for WKU is larger than even Bowling Green and South Central Kentucky. Gary knows his graduates will be the “source code” for our regional and global interdependence— and all the wealth and prosperity that results from it. Not only are we fortunate to have had Gary at Western, he has been the “indispensable partner” in your Chamber’s economic development expansion and attraction efforts.
There’s nothing funny about our multi-faceted partnership with WKU, but the July 16 “Big Red Roast” promises to be the most serious fun you’ll ever have this summer-- while benefitting the Charles M. Moore Leadership fund’s scholarships for leadership training.

WW Investigations and Candle Makers on the
Square Expand
WW Investigations expands within the region—in 2008, retired Bowling Green Police Captain Johnny Watts established WW investigations. Five years later, WW investigations has grown and expanded its Bowling Green roots to surrounding areas and almost doubled its clientele. along with his determination and extensive training, positive referrals by Johnny’s clients are what have promoted WW investigations growth. While WW investigations does handle domestic cases, the majority of cases that Johnny Watts handles are from attorneys. These cases mostly consist of taking statements and interviewing witnesses based on facts from the case. For more information on WW investigations, or to contact Johnny Watts, visit www.wwinvestigations.org or email Johnny directly at [email protected].

On May 15, Kentucky Governor Steve Bes-hear joined company and local officials to break ground on an 87,000 square foot ad-dition to Kobe Aluminum Automotive Prod-ucts (KAAP), LLC advanced manufacturing facility in Bowling Green, representing $66 million of new capital investment and the addition of 100 new full-time employees. At today’s groundbreaking ceremony at KAAP’s facilities in the South Central Ken-tucky Industrial Park, Gov. Beshear noted, “Today’s groundbreaking marks Kobe’s sec-ond major expansion in as many years tells me the global economic recovery has deep roots in Bowling Green. Kentucky once again leads the way in advanced manufac-turing industry and high-skill job creation.” The 87,000 square-foot addition makes room for new furnaces and casting ma-chines, forging presses and advanced pro-cesses used to meet increasing demand for high-quality precision aluminum compo-nents, to be delivered to the automobile in-dustry as it expands in the Commonwealth; such as fully-forged aluminum suspension systems for fuel-efficient, low-emission cars."We are excited to break ground and expand our operations in South Central Kentucky once again," said, Gregory Head, Corporate
Secretary. “KAAP has grown and prospered here because Kentucky understands our needs and respects our customers. We look forward to many more years of collaboration with state and local officials and opening new opportunities for the exceptional peo-ple we are fortunate to employ. Our desire is to become a preferred employer in the South Central Kentucky.” "Kobe has been a great corporate citizen for the past eight years, and we look forward to continuing this relationship long into the future," said Bowling Green Mayor Bruce Wilkerson. "We congratulate them on their decision to expand here again and send well wishes for their continued growth." "It's another great day in south central Kentucky when we can announce an ex-pansion project like this one at Kobe," said Warren County Judge-Executive Michael Bu-chanon. "This company is a great example of how businesses thrive in our region, and we thank them for continuing to invest here." Chamber Board of Directors Chair Brad Howard commented, “We thank our local and state officials for their full support of Kobe and this project. Governor Beshear, our state legislators, the City and County, and the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic De-
velopment played integral roles to ensure that this project will be a success and a ben-efit to the region." “TVA congratulates Kobe Aluminum Auto-motive Products on the great news of their business expansion,” said TVA Senior Vice President of Economic Development John Bradley. “TVA and Warren Rural Electric Co-operative Corporation are pleased to partner with the Commonwealth of Kentucky and Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce to support companies like Kobe to continue to grow in their home communities.” There are 11 Kobe Steel subsidiaries in the United States, but the Bowling Green location is Kobe Steel’s only U.S. facility to forge for the automotive industry. Kobe’s is the third economic development announcement for the Chamber thus far in 2013, with a total announced investment of nearly $92 million and 192 announced new jobs. In 2012, Bowling Green Area Cham-ber of Commerce announced projects total-ing 537 jobs to be created and retained with over $45.6 million in capital investment.
