Quote for the month!
Always Be A ‘Work In Progress’
I believe this quote fits very well, for those that work in Aged Care. We are forever exploring ways to improve the way in which we provide care, deliver services and work as a team. However, I don’t think I am wrong in saying there are occasions when we think, can we just leave it how it is! There is no doubt that the whole review process can be very tiring, as it certainly takes more energy to learn or absorb something new, than it does to just coast along. I guess this is where the idea of thinking about ourselves and the way in which we do things, as a ‘work in progress’ will be beneficial.
If we can adopt an attitude that it doesn’t matter how it was done today, maybe tomorrow there will be a better way of doing it, then new ideas will come to us easily and our ability to take the positives out of every situation will increase.
A good example of this recently was a Workplace Safety Audit, conducted by Workplace Health & Safety Qld. While we were compliant in all areas, there were several areas identified, that we could improve on. Of course the initial reaction from those of us involved was oh no! more changes and more work! While to some extent this is correct, the review process also gave us lots of new ideas, not only pertaining to safety procedures, but ways in which we can raise our awareness, deliver our in-service education and orientate our staff.
You will see one of these new initiatives within the Newsletter. The section titled Quality Corner has been expanded to include information in relation to safety. See, even our Newsletter is not a document whose format is complete, it is merely a ‘work in progress’.
So, until Next Month!
Stay Safe!

∗ Did You Know?
Each year more than 13,000 Queensland workers suffer an injury as a result of a slip, trip or fall, costing Queensland businesses more than 256,000 lost work days and over $60 million in workers’ compensation payments.
In addition to workers’ compensation costs, there are financial, physical and emotional costs for the injured worker and their family. A workplace injury often affects injured workers’ well being by restricting their usual home and leisure activities.
Over the next month, our focus is going to be on how we can minimize the risk of a slip or fall within our workplace. So, put you thinking caps on! I am sure we can all identify an area where there is a potential risk of slipping, tripping or falling? What are we going to do about it?

Comments, Compliments & Concerns
As part of our commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement, we genuinely value your ideas and suggestions. Whether you have a concern you would like to raise, make a suggestion that may improve services or simply acknowledge the good things we do, we encourage you to tell us. I am very aware that due to the fact that we promote a culture of open and transparent communication, many suggestions or issues raised, are done so verbally. However, it is important that we have options and that there is a system that enables people to put something forward anonymously, should they wish to do so. (keeping in mind that this will prohibit feedback at a personal level)
