description

This is an introductory to Jim Dine's art. I am doing a project with my high school students that use the heart and oil pastels. It is a great way to work with design on a cliched symbol and actually like oil pastels When they are finished they are sprayed with acrylic mat spray and make a great introduction to painting. I will post some examples later. Sorry the first one did not save correctly but this one should be fine. I included the Pop artist, sorry Richard I did not include you. I also included the preceding art period before thePop Art period. I love doing this with my Drawing and Painting class, they always have little kids doing this, but the older kids are awesome.

In 2007 the plot of the unsellable artwork thickened when the Internal Revenue Service slapped the Sonnabends with a bill for $29.2 million. The IRS claimed that the Rauschenberg possessed a fair market value of $65 million and the owners were required to pay the appropriate taxes, reported The New York Times.

Jim Dine 1935Jim Dine became one of the pioneers of pop art. Pop artists often chose ordinary everyday objects as their subjects, presenting them with detachment and irony.

Dine painted many images of bathrobes, neckties, hearts, and tools.

At the age of 12 Jim Dine’s mother died and Dine went to live with his maternal grandparents. Dine’s grandfather owned a hardware store where Jim Dine worked throughout his youth and came to know and appreciate the beauty of hand tools. It is not surprising that Jim Dine would turn to them as a theme later on. Jim Dine states that he adopted tools as a subject "because they felt right….like relatives…as though their last name was Dine."
