Joker:
Cecil Smith is on his deathbed, and knows the end is near. The
nurse, his wife, his daughter and 2 sons, are with him at his
bedside.
"So", he says to them feebly: "Bernie, I want you to take the
Glebe houses."
"Sybil, take the apartments over in Balmain."
"Jamie, I want you to take the offices over in the City Centre."
"Sarah, my dear wife, please take all the residential buildings in North Sydney."
The nurse is visibly impressed by all this. As Cecil slips quietly away, she says, "Mrs. Smith, your
husband must have been a very successful, hardworking man to have accumulated all that
property".
Sarah replies curtly, "Property!! ..........
The bastard's got a Paper Run!"
Another week of reprieve: Mez held the winning ticket, but lost with the 7 of clubs. And we took
$36.00.
********************************************************************************************************************** SGT Fines:
A very successful SGT’s session with a very generous $85.05 being
gleefully extracted from unsuspecting Rotarians!
Heads and Tails:
Woo Hoo!!!!! We played!! In honour of the upcoming ANZAC Day, the Pres
decided to play Heads and Tails for the aforementioned bottle of
champagne, rather than auction it off. Two tails and the Pres won!! So
the auction went ahead!
Attendance:
Thankyou Bruce, attendance this week was 64%.
Champagne auction: …… and what a nail-biting affair that turned out to be. David Bailey and
Stephen Mulvaney went head to head, and final bid by David Bailey of $25.00 was the winner. In
true David Bailey style, at the end of the meeting, David presented Stephen and Diane with the
champagne and wished them a very happy holiday!
Thankyou David, so sweet!! Shouldn’t have had that last glass of wine..
Farmers Market Corner:
From the Pen of…Pres Paul
The markets were their usual busy self of Saturday. Tam was on her day off and Ninka was in full
swing.
Despite two early morning starts in a row the market team backed up well from ANZAC morning
and had the Rotary stall fully operational by 7am. The weather was kind with a 7 degree start,
however the promised sunshine did not eventuate until much later in the day, so we had an
overcast mild morning, and a bit of a chilly breeze out on car park duty. We had the usual odd
grump - primary gripe this week was the dog show was on and the road was closed requiring a
detour. Happily there were many very happy customers with praise for the markets and the work
Rotary does. Water sales were slow (only 7 bottles), bags were about average (a few more
complaints about handles that rip off – replacements given), and tables balanced first time with 24
hired out, 2 at the Rotary stall and 14 in the container (making the 40 total that we had available).
Dream Cuisine (2), Kurragong Meats (4), Doms Woodfire Bread (3), Brooklands (2), Lobby
Restaurant (3) and Maruya Seafood (10) were the hirers for this week, which is pretty much the
regular hirers.
On the lost property front, things were quiet. A naked baby (doll) and a nice shiny new credit card
were handed in and remained unclaimed, but everyone else looked after their children and property
pretty well.
Thankyou Pres Paul… outstanding report!

OUR HISTORY
In 1998 the Rotary Clubs of Queanbeyan and Queanbeyan West Rotary decided to sponsor a new Rotary Club based in Jerrabomberra. Bill Lilley, John Snedden and Peter Jarvis from Queanbeyan West took on the joint roll of mentor (Peter Jarvis went on to become our Charter President).
Advertising for potential members began in March 1998. After a successful campaign, the Club was chartered on 18 November 1998 with 20 members. We are an unusual club as we have a very high proportion of female Members.
Initial meetings were held at the Jerrabomberra General Store—the venue was very good until we grew in numbers. We then moved to the Jerrabomberra Community Centre for a few years. We now meet at the Jerrabomberra Public School Staff Room, on Thursdays (6.15 for 6.30 pm). As at 26 Jan 2014 the Club has 26 members — 11 female and 15 male. Included in this are seven married couples. We also have 4 supporters of the Rotary Club.
(Charter) President Peter Jarvis ran competitions to select a name for our Club bulletin and a design for the Club banner. There were some good and (very) bad suggestions. Pam Spencer suggested the winning bulletin name; Jerraganda. The banner design by David Stevens was eventually selected. The design incorporates a goose and the windmill associated with the original entrance to the estate.
Progress might have been alright once,
but it has gone on too long.
