Reports: Community:
From Anton and Bruce:
Music Festival: Anton advised that it has been a learning curve over the last
week. 3 events at the Albert Hall and one at the Fitters Workshop. Another at
Fitters wksp tomorrow night.
Customers had not experienced food at so many events. 1stnight was a little
iffy. Night 2 jumped a fair bit. Had experienced enough on the first two nights to
make improvements. By the 3rdnight we had recouped our costs at the fitters and we timed the
event very well.
Watched and learned to see how we can go forward next year.
Want us to provide 60 meals to musos tomorrow night. Need to start at 4.30, so set up is 3.45 and
need at least 5 people. Coffee guy was not successful and wont be used again next year.
Bruce advised that this type of events is great to cater for and lots of lessons learned for next year.
Feedback has been very positive. Kathleen also advised that we are on the list for future events
due to our positive contribution.
Anton was delighted with the positive attitude from the Club to embrace something new.
Pres Paul advised that there was a really good feeling from the patrons who appreciated what the
club contributed.
Lots of discussions. Good lessons learning exercise. Will have a wash-up meeting to discuss at a
later date.
Had nice new aprons for the event. Will have them embroidered for the Club. Also chefs hats are
available for appearance sake.
Reports: Club Service:
Paul Robey thanked the Club for floral tribute for Sandras sister demise.
Moonlight tour on 29 may. A confirmatory email will come out tomorrow.

Heads and Tails:
Attendance:
Attendance was 92%, (lucky I noted it this week!)
Port and Bailey's. woo hoo!!
Farmers Market Corner:
From the Pen ofPeter Jarvis
Market Musings: Great day to be at the markets for Sue, Peter and Vicki. A bit cool at first but warm
after 9am.
Road rage by female driver who insisted on her right to park inside the markets as she was on crutches.Sue told her to wait while she spoke to Hall Rotarian but the woman drove through and tried to park near
the plant stalls. Hall Rotarian offered to park her car for her closer to the toilet block. She was driving a
dark maroon older vehicle, possibly a Ford Cortina. Watch out for her.
The park adjacent to ATM side of the markets was the venue for the German Shepherd National Titles.
Dogs were everywhere including one owner and dog inside the market stalls area. Constant barking and
dogs on leads (thankfully) walking up and down tarred road. There was a very keen security bloke for the
Dog Show who insisted the gate entry we usually supervise was to have no traffic at all allowed to enter.
Vicki stated that Stall owners were entitled to enter but the guy said no way. Tamara and Vicki sorted him
out.
Find Your Car Service had to be put in place for customer who couldnt find her car. Only had to walk up4 of the lanes of parked cars before it appeared.
A movie was being made to be titled Come to Canberra and a number of stall holders were interviewed.
Plus Hall Rotarian taking photos for a book? to be prepared by the Hall Club.
Two sets of sunglasses lost with one claimed and the other (Brown Ray Bans now in the Office) to be
picked up next Saturday. One set of car keys lost but not handed in. One glove claimed which had been
handed in the previous Saturday. $20 dollars left at ATM.
Thankyou, Peter the Muser!

DINNER MEETING 22 MAY 14
As we are having an away meeting this week, to sample the delights of a new Queanbeyan Restaurant, I have
provided Mez with a written report for inclusion in the Jerraganda.
Ride to the Other Side.Remember the guy from WA who is driving his mower across Australia. He came to
speak to us a while back. Well he is here in Canberra with his mower next Monday and there is a photo
opportunity at Parliament house for Rotarians. Paul Robey, Peter Jarvis, and Bruce Miller will be heading downthere together with their push mowers to join in the photo. If anyone else wants to join them please liaise with
one of them as they have all the details (Sue and I am away in Brisbane for Bailees Baptism). See
http://www.ridetotheotherside.org.au/for info on Craigs ride.
And here are the photos!
I think Paul is explaining that his is really a mower! And he can chuck it on his shoulder!
Do you remember the Lawn Mower Man???
On the Tonga front, you will also recall that we were to undergo an random audit by a PDG from NZ who
would visit the project school in April. I am pleased to say that we have received advice that the audit was
conducted as planned and the project passed with flying colours. Here is a extract from the letter we received
post Audit.
Thank you for your cooperation with the random audit of Matching Grant (MG) 77422 approved to provide a
rainwater collection and filtration system and a toilet block to the
Lapaha Government Primary School in Lapaha, Tonga. This letter is to inform you of the results of the random
audit.
The Rotary Foundation (TRF) was very pleased to learn that at the time of the audit, the grant funds had been
used for the intended purpose. The auditor noted that the documentation retained for the audit was well-
organized, the grant work was done promptly, and the host and international sponsors were very involved with
the project.
Additionally, local labor was used which helped to stimulate the local economy and the contractor was able to
identify project savings by repairing instead of replacing an existing water tank.

As a result of the overwhelmingly positive results of the audit, TRF is pleased to close this audit. We wish you
continued success in all of your future projects.
This project had its genesis with Gerry McNamara before he moved to Geelong. David Bailey organised the
Matching Grant and the initial logistics, and then Terry took on the stewardship of the project from our end, while
the local Nuku'alofa Rotary Club did the local organisation. Terrys close mate Rob (aka Chilli to the rest of us)
joined in and the two intrepid explorers made the now infamous visit to Nuku'alofa to ensure all was in order last
October. So on behalf of the club, a big thank you to David, Terry and Chilli for the most recent work and to
Gerry for his past contribution in getting the whole thing off the ground. Our RAWCS trip in September/October
this year will add to this project and take the school into a new era. No pressure Chilli.
New Uniforms We have opened an account at Workingear in Fyshwick and placed our first order for those
members travelling to the International Convention. An order for the remaining members will be placed by the
end of May, once we have sizes confirmed from everyone.
New Market Stall Everything is finalised for the new Rotary stand at CRFM, we are just awaiting final
confirmation from Hall of their acceptance of the final quote and then we will place the order, which should arrive
before the end of June.
Changeovers
Our changeover is on 28thJune at our usual venue. Make sure you let Jan and Glenn know if
you are coming or not, so they can finalise numbers. Invitations to the usual guests have been sent out.
Sue and I have accepted invitations to attend Queanbeyan Wests Changeover on Tuesday 24thJune, and
Queanbeyans Changeover on Wednesday 25 June. Interestingly both of these clubs now meet at the Central
Motel and as such there will be 3 changeover dinners at the same venue.
Sue and I have also registered for the District Changeover on Sunday 29 thJune.
International visitor - Barbara Fisk, a Canadian Rotarian, is hoping to join us for our meeting on 29 thMay while
passing through Canberra. Given that our Mystery Tour has had to be postponed again, I am hoping Barbara
may share some of her Canadian Rotary experiences with us.
Thats enough from me. I have encouraged other Board members to send their reports to Mez for inclusion in
the Jerraganda.
And then there was the Dinner
I believe a good time was had by all:
Liz!! Bruce!! Get a room!!!! Jan, are you looking at the Pres' mess?

Oh dear Pres Paul, did we have and accident with the food and wine
Ooops!! The Pres did a boo boo.. mmmm. We dont make a mess!!
And finally.
A Message for all Marketeers over the coming months from Glenn
There were a few traffic issues this week at the markets due to the closure of the Well Station Rd and
the consequent confusion & frustration that ensued. From next week, and for several subsequent
weeks, entrance to the markets off Northbourne Ave will be via the road at the side of the Shell garage
(an un-named road but is the extension of Stirling Ave). Entrance off Flemington Rd remains
unchanged. This will mean some extra work for us as we need to man two traffic control points - the one
we currently do and now the new, temporary entrance to the markets, near the toilet block. Cars
entering the markets from this new entrance will be guided to the right, through the big gates besides
the toilets. This will be a one-way road: in only. Hall will help out by manning the desk when we need to
do the tables, toilet breaks, coffee runs, etc. Hall also plans to have all the signing completed by next
week - there was none this week. Any queries call Glenn or Colin.

OUR HISTORY
In 1998 the Rotary Clubs of Queanbeyan and Queanbeyan West Rotary decided to sponsor a new Rotary Club
based in Jerrabomberra. Bill Lilley, John Snedden and Peter Jarvis from Queanbeyan West took on the joint roll of
mentor (Peter Jarvis went on to become our Charter President).
Advertising for potential members began in March 1998. After a successful campaign, the Club was chartered on
18 November 1998 with 20 members. We are an unusual club as we have a very high proportion of female Members.
Initial meetings were held at the Jerrabomberra General Storethe venue was very good until we grew in
numbers. We then moved to the Jerrabomberra Community Centre for a few years. We now meet at the
Jerrabomberra Public School Staff Room, on Thursdays (6.15 for 6.30 pm). As at 26 Jan 2014 the Club has 26 members
11 female and 15 male. Included in this are seven married couples. We also have 4 supporters of the Rotary Club.
(Charter) President Peter Jarvis ran competitions to select a name for our Club bulletin and a design for the
Club banner. There were some good and (very) bad suggestions. Pam Spencer suggested the winning bulletin name;
Jerraganda. The banner design by David Stevens was eventually selected. The design incorporates a goose and the
windmill associated with the original entrance to the estate.
