I'm Ba'ack.
OK, it has been 4 long weeks since you have had your fix of the Jerraganda. I have had sick little
nieces, been on holidays, and been sick myself, so I do apologise for making you suffer through the
void of not being entertained by my wit and literary genius. So lets get on with the show.
Here is how I saw and members reported on the month that was.
Meeting 758 - 29 Aug 13:
The Club had its Fellowship meeting at The Kitchen. My twin nieces were staying with us and
unfortunately both were unwell, so I stayed home to help out with the Aunty duties.

Pres Paul sent his report for meeting number 758 via email, which I have kindly reproduced below.
I have also run spell check over it, you are welcome Pres Paul!
Hi all,
Our meeting last night was the monthly visit to a restaurant. Finally I will get to visit the new
'Kitchen' having managed to be otherwise engaged on all previous visits. Excellent meal and
amazingly each course actually tasted different. A great improvement. Good company and good
wine rounding of a nice evening.
As we were offsite we did not have any business tonight, so I have provided a short President's
report below. If there is anything the Directors need to bring to members attention, I am sure they
will also send out a report via email.
My main activities for the club have continued to focus on the 175th Anniversary Ball (yes the Ball)
and the associated Car Raffle. Both activities are big undertakings I am really appreciative of the
support members have and continue to give to both (despite the jokes). We have a good presence
in the attendee list for the ball and I am pleased to report that the vast majority of members have
paid for and received their ball tickets. The raffle is moving along, and I thank those members who
have helped sell tickets at the markets, the Jerra shops and the Riverside Plaza. The tickets are
selling, perhaps a little slower than we would have liked, but they are moving, and we will be
making a big push in the final four weeks.
I understand the 15th Birthday committee has been busy and plans are shaping up for a fun night.
No doubt we will hear more from the committee at the business meeting next week.
DG Maureen has provided the attached information regarding the End Polio Bike Ride.
Queanbeyan Club have asked me to remind you of their Polio Dinner on 23 October. Unfortunately
Sue and I will be interstate that week so have sent apologies. I understand the Hobb's have
registered to attend. If any other members are planning to attend, please contact Natalie Jupe
directly to grab one of the limited seats available. The District conference is getting close and the registration webpage is finally operational, so if
you are planning on attending please register soon. Mary-Rose has the accommodation under
control, so speak to Mez to confirm your bed if needed.
Also don't forget to register for the 2014 RI conference in Sydney in June next year. Glenda is
handling the accommodation on that front and early decisions are needed as accommodation will
become very scarce very quickly.
Finally market duties this week fall to Colin, Cathy and Bruce (7am start Bruce). Sue and I will also
have the car there to sell raffle tickets. Looking like great weather for a day at the markets.
Have a great week.Paul
Apologies:
Mez Mulvaney, David Bailey and Anne Davis, Cathy and Colin Hobbs, Peter and Sue Jarvis and

Attendance:

Meeting 759 - 05 Sep 13:
Pres Paul welcomed everyone to meeting 759 and invited Sue Roger to read the Charge to
Australia, and Paul to toast Rotary International and the Rotary club of Bilston in central UK. Now
the question the editor has to ask is did Pres Paul ask Paul Robey to read the charge, or did he ask
himself?
Apologies:
Lots according to my mole (no offence Chris), due to a conflict with the Relay for
Life meeting, which was held on our meeting night due to cancer council
availability.

Farmers Market Corner:
From the Pen of sunburnt Sue
The markets were fairly quiet today. There were quite a few stall holders away. Some were even supposed to be therebut weren't; much to Tamara's chagrin. They must have been suffering from "voteitis" or it could have been sun stroke. The morning was lovely-balmy breezes and warmth standing out in the car park! However as the morning passed, thesun shone with a vengeance forcing me to dig through the lost property box to find an old rural fire services cap to wearto shade my eyes. Anyway, on the bright side we all got our Vitamin D quota. Not much happened of interest. A lady brought her little boy over to meet us in case he got lost so he'd know who tostay with for safety's sake.Another lady lost her bank book. We couldn't help her as it hadn't been handed in by that stage but she didn't want towait - she was off home to cancel it straight away!We had to shoo out quite a few dog owners. They all think holding a little puppy is ok but it's not unfortunately. Toughlove!Unfortunately we only sold 4 raffle tickets. Dont' forget to sell Gary (Joe's seafood) a ticket when you collect the tablemoney as he promised to buy a ticket every week until the draw.
Thanks Sue

Farmers Market Corner:
From the Pen of Mez.
What an absolutely glorious day!!! Anne, David and Mez had a lovely day and enjoyed the company of each other. Mezhad to face some very unhappy stall holders (who slept in and wanted entry after 7.30pm) and yes, there are still thosepunters who feel that the handicapped parking is just too far away. There were a number of people who seem to think that bringing a dog into the markets and allowing them to sniff the
food stalls is perfectly acceptable. The dog owner with the large white husky has now become known to Tamara andwill be targeted when next he tries to bring his dog inside. There was a little brown dog, (a bull terrier I think, well it had4 legs, a tail and panted a fair bit) whose owner was quite happy to take his dog back outside. There was a lady therewith a Seeing Eye dog, however when her mobile rang and she looked at the phone to check the number, my patiencewas running thin!I left early to pick up my boy, (there you go David, I outed myself!) and Anne sent me a message that a live chickenseller had a runaway chicken. One young boy did a mighty job chasing and catching it!!
Quote of the day:
Advice to a customer on making sure she put the money for the bottled water in a separate bag:Anne: I have to get this right, I sleep with the Treasurer.Mez: Yeah, but shes married to the Secretary.

OUR HISTORY
In 1998 the Rotary Clubs of Queanbeyan and Queanbeyan West Rotary decided to sponsor a new Rotary Club
based in Jerrabomberra. Bill Lilley, John Snedden and Peter Jarvis from Queanbeyan West took on the joint roll of
mentor (Peter Jarvis went on to become our Charter President).
Advertising for potential members began in March 1998. After a successful campaign, the Club was chartered on
18 November 1998 with 20 members. We are an unusual club as we have a very high proportion of female Members.
Initial meetings were held at the Jerrabomberra General Storethe venue was very good until we grew in
numbers. We then moved to the Jerrabomberra Community Centre for a few years. We now meet at the
Jerrabomberra Public School Staff Room, on Thursdays (6.15 for 6.30 pm). As at 11 Jun 2013 the Club has 27 members
11 female and 16 male. Included in this are seven married couples. We also have 4 supporters of the Rotary Club.
(Charter) President Peter Jarvis ran competitions to select a name for our Club bulletin and a design for the
Club banner. There were some good and (very) bad suggestions. Pam Spencer suggested the winning bulletin name;
Jerraganda. The banner design by David Stevens was eventually selected. The design incorporates a goose and the
windmill associated with the original entrance to the estate.
A word to the wise ain't necessary - it's the
stupid ones that need the advice.
