Originally from Powdersville, South Carolina, Tenor Jake Thomason holds a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music in
Vocal Performance from Furman and Indiana Universities, respectively. A versatile performer, he has been heard in the United States
and abroad in opera, concert, recital and oratorio venues. Mr. Thomason made his stage debut as “Frederic” in Gilbert and Sullivan’s
The Pirates of Penzance in 2006, and in 2007 he was invited to study at the prestigious Accademia dell’Arte in Arezzo, Italy, where he
was showcased in concerts throughout the Tuscan region.
In 2008, Thomason was heard as “Satyavan” in Gustav Holst’s Savitri, and 2009 saw him performing the role of “Ferrando”
in Wolfgang Amadeaus Mozart’s Così fan tutte at the Lyrisches Opern Studio of Weimar, Germany. In the summer of 2011 Mr.
Thomason participated in the concert-version of Jules Massenet’s Werther, in which he sang the title role. Thomason has also been
seen at the Tyron Fine Arts Center for their performance of Messiah selections in December of 2012. He then went on to perform the
role of “Lippo Fiorentino” in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene with Harrower Opera Workshop in the summer of 2013.
He has also appeared in numerous and various opera scenes, including Puccini’s La bohème, Verdi’s La traviata, Verdi's
Rigoletto, Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Mozart's Don Giovanni, and Poulenc’s Les Dialogues des Carmélites. As a member of the
Indiana University Opera Chorus, he has performed in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Gounod’s
Faust, Puccini’s La bohème, and Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier. Additionally, Mr. Thomason was an invited participant in master classes
with Sherrill Milnes, Virginia Zeani, Carol Vaness, Carlos Montané, Stanford Olsen, and Betsy Bishop, and he has worked with
conductors and stage directors such as David Effron, Arthur Fagan, Dr. Bing Vick, Nic Muni, and James Marvel.
Most recently, Mr. Thomason was invited to be a Graham Apprentice Artist with Glow Lyric Theatre in Greenville, SC
where he was seen in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar. He also
participated in a new music cabaret composed by Karl Michael Johnson, Glow Lyric Theatre’s composer in residence for the 2013
season. Thomason currently studies voice under the tutelage of acclaimed dramatic soprano, Rebecca Turner. He resides in
Spartanburg, SC with his wife, mezzo-soprano Laura Thomason.
