India is recognised as one of the fastest growing economies

in the world. Since last few years, India has witnessed some

unprecedented structural economic reforms viz. economic

liberation, granting overseas investors more access to its

vast and varied market than ever, bringing significant

changes in indirect taxation, multi-fold attempts to control

black money, attempts to align informal economy into

mainstream economy, and many more. Political stability and

broad consensus on reforms, improvement in ease of doing

business index, up-rating by Moody’s are also a big pull for

expanding businesses in India.

A lot of inter-governmental norms as well as impact on

environment are creating a compelling pressure on

organisations to device sustainable solutions in their

businesses. As understood, every process has its own cost.

For a business to excel, the benefits associated with

innovation and sustainable solutions should outweigh the

costs incurred, then only business excellence could be

talked about. This is not easy to achieve for all the kind of

organisations, yet it has become inevitable to redefine the

businesses as per the changing dynamics of business

environment.

An organisation really needs to be “Smart” today.

Organizations that are knowledge driven, use collective

learning practices, are dynamically adaptive, regularly

innovate their products and processes, focuson best HR

practices, aptly managetheir finances and systematically

use IT and marketing strategies to not onlysustain in the

market but also out beat the competition and grab the

opportunities offered by new economy can be called

assmart organisations. It is important to mention that the

organisation’s principles and values, sustainability goals,

responsibility towards society, shall remain fundamental to

its success.

Organizations today are expected to be more aware of the

impact of their businesses on the rest of society, including

their own stakeholders and the environment.Corporate

Social Responsibility (CSR) is a business approach that

contributes to sustainable development by delivering

economic, social and environmental benefits for all

stakeholders. No organisation can be thought of having

sustainable and continued success without it being socially

responsible.
