What a day for our concour! We all know how hot it has been this summer but for us good guysa beautiful 80 deg. and a slight breeze. Our Jags ranged from the two 2011's , an XJ and an XFfrom Jaguar Cleveland, our main sponsor, to two 1950 Jaguars, a Mark V sedan and a drop head. These cars are not nearly as technically advance or as reliable as the new models but who wouldn'tlove to own and drive them. GEORGOUS!. The Providence House lemonade stand, Irene Chudzikset it up and ran it, was graced by a Jaguar Mark VIII which our chief judge Paul Cusato drove infor the event. I think that brought in more than a few lemonade customers. Every once in a while Ilooked back at the new Jags and there were always a few people admiring them. Remember whenyou could always recognize a car from a distance? Jaguar is one of the few you can still recognizeeasily.

We were fortunate to have an adequate number of judges this year and two delightfulteenagers to be score runners, which brings me to our staff that man the scoring tent. What a job, they have computerized everything making it so much easier to record and put cars in their properclasses and their final places in the results. Our trusted finance chairman, Randy Brown, oversawthe recording of fees. So many good people to thank, but I'm sure you all appreciate them.

So many beautiful Jags and so little time to see them all, I would love to have the time to takeportrait pictures of them. I am in my 19th year as a JCO member and I never tire of seeing oldfriends and always meeting new, and of course enjoying their Jaguar works of art.

75 Years of Jaguar – Performance & BeautyBy Robert Barbero & Rick Vanek, Cleveland, Ohio July 2010

Jaguar was founded in 1922 by Sir Williams Lyon and William Walmsley, knownas the Swallow Sidecar Company. They fabricated motorcycle sidecars and fittedthem to used motorcycles. Lyons was the son of an Irish musician who settle inBlackpool, England. His mother was the daughter of a wealthy mill owner who dis-owned her because of the marriage. Lyons would be 109 year old if alive today. He tried his hand at selling automobiles, but wound up languishing in his father'smusic shop.

This is where Lyons and Walmsley came together to form their company. Thecompany soon began to produce the Swallow bodied cars in Coventry in 1931, adistinct marque, called the SS. Then in 1935, not wanting to be associated withthe German SS, they re-badged as Jaguar. The Jaguar name was an ideal choice asit represented the feline grace and elegance, power and agility that set he carsapart. Sir Williams once said that has stood the test of time. The new brand namecaptured the essence of all of the cars created from that point forward.Known at the time for producing beautifully styled cars and priced at a fraction of

the well know marques such as Bentley, Jaguar was off and running. The SS 100was the forerunner to the XK120, XK140 and XK150s that would follow afterWorld War II. The SS100 was the first Jaguar guaranteed to perform at 100 mph.Jaguar would continue the top speed to designate their models for the XK120,XK140 and XK150 – all milestone models, but not as well known to the generalmotoring public as the XKE. It was somewhere around this time frame that Jaguarbegan using the slogan of “Grace, Pace and Space” in their advertising materials. The E-Type, with its racing heritage of C-Types and D-Types, would go on to win

many of motorcar racings' greatest accolades. To this day, the E-Type still remainsthe most recognizable Jaguar, whether they are 6 cylinders, commonly mistaken forV-12's or the actual Series III V-12's. The ear Series I covered headlight cars, arethe most coveted, especially in roadster form. Some will still argue that the E-Typecoupe was the purest design form ever produced. It was at one time the onlyautomobile on permanent display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NewYork.

Jaguar didn't just produce sports cars however. Early on, they began buildingbeautiful saloons, all of which had the heritage of Jaguar's sporting designs and per-formance at very affordable prices. Jaguar would follow later with the Mark IX,Mark 1 and Mark 2, all of which saw their share of track time. These sedans wouldlead to the current sedans still being sold today, just as the XK & XKEs lead to theXJS which became the current SK8 and now know simple as the XK or XKR.

Jaguar, although it survives today, has had a checkered past of ownership andmanagement challenges. It is almost a blueprint for the English motor manufactur-er. Founded by a passionate enthusiast, absorbed by a misguided conglomerate, mismanaged, nationalized, mismanaged again, privatized, then sold to Ford MotorCompany, wooed by its history. Now its future is in the hands of an Indian automanufacturing giant, Ratan Tata; once again, England being controlled by theprovincial territories. They seem to be showing signs of continued success withthe introduction of the current XF and the most recently introduced and seductiveXJ flagship. Hopefully it does survive because there are a lot of enthusiasts outthere who would love to see the rumored E-Type replacement produced.

A bit of local history about the Jaguar Club of Ohio – it was formed in 1972 bythree local Jaguar enthusiasts, Ron Smith, Dave Pool and Phil Boyd. The club wasfounded originally to provide technical information to Jaguar owners, sponsoringevents for driving and displaying th ecars and providing social activities for clubmembers. It was officially recognized by Jaguar Club of North America (JCNA)December 9, 1973. From its small beginning, the club maintains a current mem-bership of 140+ members.

On August 7th, 2010, JCO presented its 38th continuous Concours d'Elegance, proudly in conjunction with the 24th continuous British Car Day. This event waspresented by Northeastern Ohio British Car Council and sponsored by JaguarCleveland.

AKRON, Ohio - It is the momenteveryone in Northeast Ohio has been waiting for,but not necessarily the news they were hoping for:LeBron is leaving Northeast Ohio. Thebiggest surprise may be his new home town. Chicagoand New York were likely never considered.LeBron's new home will be Melbourne, Florida.LeBron, the jaguar that was born at theAkron Zoo in 2009, left for the BrevardZoo in mid-June. The Zoo hosted a LeBronAppreciation Day on June 5, 2010.

LeBron was the only male in a litter ofthree born at the Akron Zoo on March 3, 2009.(Mike Meyer featured a picture of the newborn cubson the March/April 2009 JAGMAG). Through a public contest the name LeBron was chosen inhonor of Akron native and NBA superstar LeBronJames.

NEW CONSERVATION CAROUSEL

The Akron Zoo unveiled its newestexpansion, a Conservation Carousel, July 31,2010. The carousel features 33 hand-carvedwooden animals and a peacock chariot that kidsand adults will be able to ride. In addition to thecarousel there is also a brand new picnic areaadjacent to the new carousel.

Some of the animals on thecarousel reside at the Akron Zoo like a penguin,Komodo dragon and a jaguar! There will alsobe many animals guest will be able to ride thatare not currently found at the zoo like an elephant, polar bear and giraffe. The carouselride will be $2 and will last about 2 1/2 minutes. There will also be graphics at the ride so riderscan see where the animal they rode lives.

The move is sanctioned by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA)Species Survival Plan (SSP). The mission of the SSP is to help ensure the survival ofselected wildlife species. Through scientifically-controlled managed breeding programs, SSP's are a proactive approach to preventing extinction. SSP's wereformed back in 1981 to help ensure the survival of endangered species. SSP's aremanaged by the AZA, of which the Akron Zoo is an accredited member.

LeBron will be paired with a female at the Brevard Zoo, Masaya, in hopes of breeding and rearing a successful litter of cubs. Jaguars are listed as an endangered species by the US Fish & WildlifeService. There is currently less than 100 jaguars in the United States at AZA accredited facilities.

The two females born in the litter with LeBron, Bellaand Nakita (pictured below), will be at the zoo for the foreseeable future. The zoo expects to have a decision by theSSP on where they will be heading and when before the end ofthe summer. Currently the plan is for the parents ofthe cubs, Naom and Chack, to reside at the AkronZoo. This was Naom and Chack's second litter. In 2005 threejaguar cubs were also born at the Akron Zoo and have sincemoved onto other accredited zoos in the U.S.

By Demonstrating consistent reliability, the Jaguar RSR team was able toincrease speeds and bring th #75 Jaguar RSR XKR GT home to another top-tenGT class finish in Round 6 of the American Le Mans Series presented by TequiliaPatron, the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge.

After having a few days of testing time, the first practice session on Friday,August 6th, went well as the tema continued to find what it would take for thiscar to be consistent around the 2.258-mile road course o f Mid-Ohio. By theafternoon, the car had gained over two seconds from its best time posted in theam., and only 2.3 seconds off the GT leaders pace. Marc Goossens was the quali-fying driver, and posted the best time of the weekend with a time of 1:22.125(98.981 mph) which put him 12th on the GT grid.

Paul Gentilozzi took the green flag and had a good first stint. On lap 16,he recorded a best race lap time in the XKR GT of 1:24.382. Gentilozzi remainedin the car for the first 49 minutes of the race, before taking advantage of a cautionperiod to come into the pits for service and a driver change. Goossens then tookover and stayed in the seat for the remainder of the 2 hour and 45 minute race.

After running for 1 hour and 48 minutes, Goossens headed into the pitsfor tires and fuel. What should have been the last drive through in the pits of therace unfortunately was not. About 30 minutes later, the Belgian was issued a stopand go penalty for avoidable contact with one of the GTC class cars. Despite dis-agreeing with the call, the team served the 60-second penalty. No damage wasdone, and that didn't hurt the team position wise, so Goossens carried on to takethe checkered flag a short time later. On the final lap of th e race, he gave it hisall one last time and recorded the XKR's fastest race lap time of 1:24.272.

A solid, consistent run by both drivers resulted in a ninth-place finish forth Jaguar RSR. Goossens earns two more championship points, while Gentilozziearns his first ALMS points. Jaguar and Yokohama also benefited earning points totheir name in the respective manufacturer standings.

I had a neighbor who bought a new pickup. I got up very early oneSunday morning and saw that someone had spray painted red allaround the sides of this beige truck (for some unknown reason). I wentover, woke him up, and told him the bad news. He was very upset andwas trying to figure out what to do.... probably nothing until Mondaymorning, since nothing was open. Another neighbor came out and told him to get his WD-40 and clean itoff. It removed the unwanted paint beautifully and did not harm the

paint job on the truck. I'm impressed! WD-40 who knew?'Water Displacement #40'. The product began from a search for a rustpreventative solvent and degreaser to protect missile parts. WD-40was created in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego RocketChemical Company. Its name comes from the project that was to finda 'water displacement' compound. They were successful with the fortieth formulation, thus WD-40. The Convair Company bought it inbulk to protect their atlas missile parts. Ken East (one of the originalfounders) says there is nothing in WD-40 that would hurt you. Whenyou read the 'shower door' part, try it. It's the first thing that has ever cleaned that spotty shower door. If yours is plastic, itworks just as well as glass. It's a miracle! Then try it on your stove top. It's nowshinier than it's ever been. You'll be amazed.WD-40 Uses: 1. Protects silver from tarnishing; 2. Removes road tar and grime from cars; 3. Cleans and lubricates guitar strings; 4. Gives floors that 'just-waxed' sheen without making them slip-pery; 5. Keeps flies off cows. (I love this one!); 6. Restores and cleans chalkboards; 7. Removes lipstickstains; 8. Loosens stubborn zippers; 9. Untangles jewelry chains; 10. Removes stains from stainless steelsinks; 11. Removes dirt and grime from the barbecue grill; 12. Keeps ceramic/terra cotta garden pots fromoxidizing; 13. Removes tomato stains from clothing; 14. Keeps glass shower doors free of water spots;15. Camouflages scratches in ceramic and marble floors; 16. Keeps scissors working smoothly; 17.Lubricates noisy door hinges on vehicles and doors in homes; 18. It removes black scuff marks from thekitchen floor! Use WD-40 for those nasty tar and scuff marks on flooring. It doesn't seem to harm thefinish and you won't have to scrub nearly as hard to get them off. Just remember to open some windows if you have a lot of marks; 19. Bug guts will eat away the finish on your car if not removed quickly! UseWD-40! 20. Gives a children's playground gym slide a shine for a super fast slide; 21. Lubricates gearshift and mower deck lever for ease of handling on riding mowers; 22. Rids kids rocking chairs and swings of squeaky noises; 23. Lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier toopen; 24. Spraying an umbrella stem makes it easier to open and close; 25. Restores and cleans paddedleather dashboards in vehicles, as well as vinyl bumpers; 26. Restores and cleans roof racks on vehicles;27. Lubricates and stops squeaks in electric fans; 28. Lubricates wheel sprockets on tricycles, wagons, and bicycles for easy handling; 29. Lubricates fan belts on washers and dryers and keeps them running smoothly; 30. Keeps rust from forming on saws and saw blades, and other tools; 31. Removes splatteredgrease on stove; 32 Keeps bathroom mirror from fogging; 33. Lubricates prosthetic limbs; 34. Keepspigeons off the balcony (they hate the smell); 35. Removes all traces of duct tape; 36. Folks even spray it on their arms, hands, and knees to relieve arthritis pain; 37. Florida’s favorite use is: 'cleans andremoves love bugs from grills and bumpers.'; 38. The favorite use in the state of New York, WD-40 protects the Statue of Liberty from the elements; 39. WD-40 attracts fish; Spray a little on live bait or luresand you will be catching the big one in no time. Also, it's a lot cheaper than the chemical attractants thatare made for just that purpose. Keep in mind though, using some chemical laced baits or lures forfishing are not allowed in some states; 40. Use it for fire ant bites. It takes the sting away immediatelyand stops the itch; 41. WD-40 is great for removing crayon from walls. Spray on the mark and wipe witha clean rag; 42. Also, if you've discovered that your teenage daughter has washed and dried a tube of

lipstick with a load of laundry, saturate the lipstick spots with WD-40 and rewash. Presto! The lipstick is gone! 43. If you sprayedWD-40 on the distributor cap, it would displace the moisture and allow the car to start.

Do you know the main ingredient?

P.S.The basic ingredientis FISH OIL.
