y.aeationc-rs: Welcome to ourwonderful islands of sun, sand, surf and shells. May you returnagain and again — and -perhapssometime — to stay forever.
The Winter Institute in Quan-tum Chemistry, So I id-StatePhysics and Quantum Biologyhas honored our Islands duringthe past five years by selectingSanibel as its gathering place. The Institute itself, directed ando r g a n i z e d by Professor Per-Olov Lowdin, is a period ofconcentrated study and researchby a group of dedicated sci-entists who hold their meetingsat C asa Ybel on Sanibel, and stayin various motels and inns onboth Islands.
But our Islands, no matterhow dedicated you are, have away of providing you with thrill-ing experiences, whether youwish them or no, For instance...
Professor Lowdin and hiswife Karen rented a canoe atthe Red Pelican for a trip upthe Sanibel River, which is sortof an odd, but interesting, riverto try to navigate.
After successfully gettingthrough some of the more dif-ficult spots, the canoe and theL o w d i n s were attacked by aschool of fish which startedjumping into the boat as if itwere the most fascinating fish-gathering place on the Island. This, as any fisherman knows,is a disquieting experience foreven the most e x p e r i e n c e dsportsman. (Todigress slightly,we know of one fishing guidewho jumped overboard, leavinghis luckless passenger to herown fate, when a wiley tarpondecided the guide's boat was agood place to take a sunbath.)
The Professor immediatelystarted grabbing the invadersand breaking their neckswhich caused the fish to becomequite dead and, as a side effect, drenched Karen's shirt withblood so thoroughly that shehad to take it off and rinse itout right then and there. Lestany of our readers worry thatshe might suffer sunburn causedby unusual exposure, we a regiad to be able to report thatsfae was wearing a halter topunder her shirt.
This, of course, could onlyhappen here. Have you everheard of any other place wherefish were so anxious to becaught that they jumped rightInto one's canoe? The ortty par-allel which comes to mind isAl Capp's Schmoo-land andit doesn't have shell-litteredbeaches!
Mrs, JOHN OSTER is spend-ing a few weeks on the Islands.
Guests at the Reef on San-ibel this week are Mr. and Mrs.HERBERT H. STEVENS of Min-neapolis, Minnesota, Mr. andMrs. MARTIN B.WEVER,fromPark Ridge, Illinois, Mr. and

THINK
How many bottles of drink-ing water do you buy eachmonth?
Have you had to relocateyour shallow well point? If so,was the new source of waterpotable? Is the new point nowin use the same depth, or wereyou forced to go to a greaterdepth to secure water?
Does the water you are nowusing discolor the porcelain inyour bathroom?'
Are the fixtures in yourbathroom showing signs of rust?
Will ordinary soap give you.a sufficient supply of latherto shower or shave?
C an you drink your presentwater? Will it make coffee ortea?
Can you use this water inyour automatic washer? Doesthe water give your washingsa yellow tinge?
Does your hot water tanksound as though it's about tojump off its base?
When you sprinkle your lawnor flowers did they becometired and brown looking after-wards?
IF SO,, you need the IslandWater Association, Inc. Whydon't you see them now-TOD AY!
DID YOU LOSE A DOG?
E a r l y last weekend,a Dachshund, wearing only aBoston, Mass., rabies tag, wasfound swimming in the Gulf afew miles off Sanibel. The dog,a very f r i e n d l y male, wasbrought in by the people whofound him to the U.S. CoastGuard Station on Fort MyersBeach. He is now enjoying thehospitality of the Chief Rash'shome on Fort Myers Beach, but, M r s . Rash sa id , "Hewants to go home so badly.Every time my husband leaves,he just sits up at the door andbegs to be taken. The rest ofthe time, he follows me aroundlike glue."
If the dog is yours, pleasecall the Coast Guard Station(MO 3-6501) immediately, asthe Rashes have a dog of theirown who is getting jealous.

All Sanibel residents wereshocked and much disturbedover the recent news of a rob-bery from a locked car on theIsland. In this particular case, nearly $300 was stolen. Theshock includes the fact thatthis is the third such robberywithin the past month andit is a terrible thing to haveanything like this happen on ourbeautiful Islands. It just isn'tdone- - -or at least, it wasn't.
Our reporter said that whenshe first came to the Islandstwenty-five years ago, she wasshocked to find that none of therooms at Island Inn had anykeys or locks. But everythingthen was safe and has beensafe for many years. Now, un-fortunately, we must warn ourvisitors please do not leavevaluables in a locked car.
Deputy Sheriff Ralph Smithsays that if you can't take themwith you, at least put them inthe trunk, wherethey are a littleharder to get at.

D.R. W i l l i a m s submittedthis poem as his philosophyfor day to day living. The authoris unknown to him.
I'm just as healthy as I can beThere is not a thing the matter
with meI have arthritis in both my
knees and when I talk it'swith a wheeze
But my pulse is weak, myblood is thin
But I'm awfully well, for theshape I'm in.
I wear arch supports on bothmy feet
If I didn't do this, I wouldn'twalk the street;
Sleep is denied me night afternight,
So in the morning I look afright;
My eyesight is failing, my headsin a spin,
But I'm awfully well for theshape I'm in.
Now the moral of this, as thetale we unfold
Is that both you and I must begetting old.
It's better to say, I'm feelingfine with a grin
Than to let folks know theshape you are in.
I get up in the morning anddust off my wits,
I pick up the paper and readthe "obits"
If my name is not there, Iknow I'm not dead,
So I eat my breakfast and goback to bed.
D.R. Williams has also sub-mitted the new address of Mrs.Alexander (Page) Flick. It isPoskanzer Convalescent Home,264 1/2 South Main Avenue,Albany, New York.
