• For students who meet the academic requirements but not the English language requirement, conditional acceptance to VIU may be granted. UNiVERSiTY TRANSFER CREDiTStudents enrolled in a University program may receive transfer credit for up to 50 percent of their program. Students seeking credit for courses from other institutions will need to submit detailed course outlines and a credit transfer request form. Please note, it can take from 2-8 weeks after your request and documents have been received to know the status of your application. Students are welcome to find transfer credit resources by looking up individual courses at viu.ca/calendar or searching the BC Council on Admission and Transfer (BCCAT). Up to 30 advanced credits may be granted to AP and IB courses.

APPLYiNGWe strongly recommend submitting your application online. The application process for international students is different than for domestic students. The application below is for students who are NOT Canadian citizen or permanent residents.

• Pay the $150 (CAD) non-refundable Application Processing Fee (Visa, Mastercard, and American Express are preferred. Cheque, money order, and electronic transfer also accepted).

• Once you have submitted your online application you will receive an acknowledgment email with the receipt of payment.

Note: your application will not begin to be processed until the $150 (CAD) application fee is received, and all required scanned documents are uploaded.

AFTER YOU APPLY• Once your application fee has been paid and all of your

documents have been received, your application will begin to be processed.

• It can take from 2-8 weeks to process an application. Having all your documents scanned and attached to the online application decreases wait time.

Note: Masters Programs and limited entry programs may take longer.

• If you have met the admission requirements and have a competitive application, you will receive a Letter of Offer from international admissions. This letter will contain information on program start dates and instructions for payment of your tuition deposit. The tuition deposit is usually the equivalent of the first semester’s tuition.

• In order to secure your place in a program, you must pay the deposit fee by the deadline date indicated in Letter of Offer. FAMILY DISCOUNT• Students new to The High School (THS) who have a sibling

concurrently attending THS or VIU will receive a $3,000 THS tuition reduction for the period of time that both siblings are in THS and VIU.

• Students new to THS who have a parent concurrently attending VIU will receive a $3,000 THS tuition reduction for the period that the parent is in attendance at VIU.

• Two siblings at THS will generate a discount for one, not both.

SUMMER CAMPS (SHORT-TERM)FOR AGES 14 TO 18Students are assessed in English during orientation day. Classes range from Intensive ESL to exploring university programs. All activities and field trips bring a diverse group of international students together for an English language learning experience.

GLOBAL STUDIES ACADEMYFor students between the ages of 14 and 18, the High School at VIU is offering a program designed to introduce them to living (residential option) and learning on a university campus with other students from Canada and around the world. Students share ideas and develop possible solutions to current issues faced by people around the globe. Modules include Global Citizenship and leadership, marine ecology and economics and sustainability.

This integrated high school, ESL and adult basic education program allows students to gain the high school level requirements and English language requirements for direct entrance to Vancouver Island University. This program is perfect for students who:

• Do not have a high school diploma• Are missing pre-requisite courses for programs at VIU • Require proof of English language proficiency • Are 17 or 18 years of age

FULL PROGRAM SCHOLARSHiPS$1,000 per year for up to 4 years of Academic studyOpen to all International students who have graduated with an IB diploma. Selection is based upon highest average of combined marks from an IB school. Awarding of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year scholarships is dependent on retention of a GPA of 3 or better.

BRiTiSH COLUMBiA OFFSHORE SCHOOL ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHiP$1,000 each, maximum 2 per yearAwarded to the top international student graduates from BC Offshore schools. The awards will be given to the two students with the highest combined scores on any two Grade 12 provincially examinable courses excluding their first language.

VIU’s International scholarships are open only to students who meet the minimum English language requirements for academic programs. All students are automatically considered for scholarships and no additional application is required. Those students selected to receive awards will be notified by VIU’s International Admissions team. Scholarships are awarded as tuition credit.
