CHOOSE A STUDY DESTINATIONThe United Nations consistently ranks Canada as one of the

best places in the world to live. It is a peaceful, politically

stable, prosperous, and safe country with a multicutural and

vibrant society.

The education system also ranks among the best in the

world, and Canadian degrees are recognized internationally.

Not only is tuition less expensive than American or British

schools, but the quality of education delivered by public

universities is consistently excellent.

Located in the southwestern corner of British Columbia,

the Fraser Valley is one of Canada’s fastest growing areas.

With its temperate weather, thriving cities, rich farmlands,

and breathtaking scenery, this affluent region provides an

exceptional quality of life that makes it the perfect place to

live and study. Fraser Valley fast facts

• One of the fastest growing regions in Canada

• One hour from metropolitan Vancouver

• Five minutes from the USA

• Third most ethnically diverse region in Canada, after Toronto and Vancouver

• Home to 58 different ethnic and cultural groups

The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) is a fully accredited,

public university that enrolls around 16,000 students per year.

UFV has locations in four Fraser Valley communities, with

campuses in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Mission, a centre in

Hope that also serves Agassiz, and a presence in Chandigarh,

India.

With its four distinct seasons, the Fraser Valley features the

mildest weather in Canada. Spring provides a dazzling explosion

of blooming trees and flowers; summer is pleasantly warm and

sunny, while fall brings out an impressive display of golden and

red leaves. Even during the winter months, the Fraser Valley

remains green, averaging less than 14 days of snow a year.

You can be active year-round, enjoy easy access to natural

attractions and choose from a range of recreational activities,

including hiking, swimming, biking, rafting, golfing, fishing,

snowboarding, and skiing.

Average temperatures (⁰C)

The best place to liveMore than 300 parks are sprinkled throughout the region,

America; Victoria, the capital of BC; Banff, a world-renowned

national park; and Seattle, a major coastal seaport in the US.

Employment opportunities exist in many fields, including

tourism, technology, aerospace, agriculture, retail,

construction, manufacturing, and service.

LIVE IN THE HEART OF CAMPUSBaker House, UFV’s campus residence hall, is much more than

just a place to live: it is a caring community of peers, living,

working, studying, and socializing together. Living at Baker

House is the best way to get a great experience while at UFV.

As a resident, you are close to campus resources such as the

library, the Writing Centre, Math Centre, Assessment Centre,

Student Services, Media Centre, and computer labs. You also

have access to residence’s study rooms where you can meet to

complete your group assignments or study together with

your classmates.

Residence living allows you to exercise your independence

without the added stress of finding and furnishing your own

place. You can live away from home in a safe environment with

strong support. At Baker House, you can achieve the perfect

balance between privacy and community: friends are there

when you need them, or you can retreat to your own private

room when you prefer being on your own.

Your home away from homeLocated in the vibrant core of UFV’s main campus in Abbotsford,

Baker House provides modern amenities to 204 students.

• You get your own fully furnished, private bedroom with

campus or mountain views

• You share your bathroom and living area with only one

roommate

• You get high-speed Internet in your bedroom and all

common areas

• You have access to study rooms, a communal kitchen,

laundry rooms, and shared common rooms with cable TV

• The campus bus loop is close by for easy access to local

shopping and entertainment.

ufv.ca/international

Top reasons to live at Baker HouseNot sure if you should live in residence or off

campus? Here are the top reasons why residence

is a good choice:

• There is always someone to talk to: other students,

mentors, student leaders and professional staff are

available for support

• It is a safe and accepting community

• You can make friends from all over the world

• You can attend all the activities scheduled on campus:

join student organizations or attend athletic events,

movies, community dinners, and special lectures

• You get to have conversations with people who have

interesting ideas and points of view

• It’s easy to find help for tough school assignments

• You can sleep late and still make it to class on time

• You don’t waste time commuting and you can always

go home between classes

• Research has shown that students who live on campus

are more satisfied with their university experience, earn

higher grades, and are more likely to graduate than

those who live off campus.
