This guide specifies the start-up process for theWireless Router Installation.Please follow the guide instructions step by step.

The”CD de opciones avanzadas” includes a video file (AyudaGrafica.exe) with a graphic help of the installation and confi-guration of your Internet connection.

For further information please refer to the User’s manual on the Advanced Settings CD, Section 2,

Connect a micro filter between each device (telephones,faxes,…) and the telephone socket.

Connect the multiple adap-ter (4) and the micro filter(3) to the selected telephonesocket where the router willbe connected, as shown inthe figure.

Connect the grey telephone line cable (5) to the free outlet(withoutmicro filter) of themultiple adapter (4) and to theADSL router labeled as ADSL.

Plug the power adapter (2) into the main supply and plugthe DC18V-0,5A connector into the ADSL Router

The routers provided by Telefónica are pre-configured sothat they can establish the connection to the Internet wi-thout any need of installation or configuration.

Turn the routeronby turning theswitch into theONposition.Wait for a fewminutes until the LEDs shine as shownbelow.

The routers provided by Telefonica are optimized sothat they can establish the connection with Internetwithout any need for installations or configurations.

A. Connection using wireless networkYou can use the wireless network if you have a wirelessadapter installed or if your computer is equipped with in-tegrated wireless support.

The first step will be to enable the wireless network foryour router. This is done by pressing the button loca-ted at the front of the router for more than 1 second andless than 8 seconds. The WLAN indicator will light up ingreen and will blink when navigating. Additionally, theWPS LED indicator will light, since this feature is activatedby default in the factory settings.The next step is to configure the computers on your wirelessnetwork inaccordancewithyour router’swirelessparameters.

Connecting the computer to the router. Two options are available

The configuration parameters by default for your wirelessnetwork are written on theWPA-PSK label at the bottomof the router.

You may either connect your computer to the router using an Ethernet cable if they are sufficiently close to each other orbymeans of awireless network. Furthermore, you can simultaneously have some devices connected to the router using theEthernet cable and others connected through the wireless network.

A.Connection usingwireless network (continuation)

1.If you are equipped with an ex-ternalwirelessdevice (PCMCIAorUSB adapter), install it with theaid of the CD that is providedwith it. If you have a wireless de-vice that isalready integrated intoyour equipment,make sure thatit is enabledwith the aid of your operating system.

2.When configuring your wireless device inWindows XP SP2or Vista, you can use the wireless client management appli-cationbypressingwith the right-handbuttonon thewirelessnetworkconnection icononthesystemtray (next to theclock)

and selecting “Viewavailablewirelessnet-works”. Forotherope-rating systems referto the wireless clientassistancemanual.

3.Search the available wire-less networks. You can up-date this listwith thebutton“Refreshnetwork list”.Selectthenetworkwhose identifier(SSID) is the one that appe-ars on the router label andpress on“Connect”.

4.Enter the security key that appears on the router label.

5.Connect to the wireless network (to do this, use the Con-nect button or similar) and check tomake sure that thewi-reless network connection icon for the system tray indicatesthat the connection has been correctly established.

IMPORTANT.Thewirelesssecuritykeyfor therouter isof theWPA/PSK typeand its format is alphanumerical.Make sureyouenter that securitykeyexactlyas it appearsonthe label.

B. Connection using Ethernet cableConnect the yellow Ethernet cable (6) to the Ethernet cardon the PC and to one of the router’s connectors labeled asLAN 1X a 4X.

Switch the PC on the LAN indicator will light up in greenafter a few seconds. This LED will blink when transferringdata.

Congratulations, you have completed the installation for yourWireless Router

Open your browser, go to the web address www.telefonica.es and start surfing the net. Should you not be able to access,please see refer to the Solutions to frequent problems in this guide.

Activate your free e-mail accounts and your website.

Once you have accessed www.telefonica.es, select the option “Activar ADSL”. After typing in the initial identificador (user)and contraseña (password) provided in the letter with the service data or the one obtained calling 900 50 20 10 from thetelephone line where you have installed the ADSL service, you will access a website where you can publish your personalweb pages.

Protect your PC

Once you are connected to the ADSL service we strongly recommend you to protect your PC against Internet virusesor attacks. If you wish to do so, you can contract these services (Antivirus PC, Anti-Intrusos PC, Pack Seguridad PC, etc.)at www.telefonica.es, calling 1004 or through your usual channel.

I cannot connect to the ADSL routerWireless network

The connectionwith thewireless network is cut off frequently.The qualityof the connection is not good.

SOLUTIONVerify that the Ethernet cable is correctly connected to the Ethernet con-nector and to the Ethernet card of your desktop PC or laptop computer.

Verify that the phone line cable is correctly connected to the ADSL connec-tor and to the phone socket .

Check to make sure that you are using the same network identifier (SSID)throughout the network. Remember that it is case sensitive, i.e. a distinc-tion is made between capital and small letters.

If there is any interference affecting that channel, select a different one.If there are other wireless networks operating in the same zone, it isrecommended that the networks be configured with a separation of 4 or5 channels. For example, if there is a wireless network operating on chan-nel 6 andwewish to install an additionalwireless network,wemust selectchannel 1, 2, 10, 11, 12 or 13. If this is not possible, select the one that causesthe least impact (the least inundated channel, that is to say, the one withthe lowest number of wireless networks.

Put the ADSL router in an unobstructed place. If there are network coverageproblems, it is recommended that the antenna be moved to a differentposition. Remember that it is advisable to make sure that there are notmany obstructions between the ADSL router and the wireless clients.

PROBLEMI cannot access Internet

SOLUTIONYoumust make sure that the TCP/IP protocol is correctly installed for thenetwork adapter that the ADSL router is to be connected to. Refer to theGuide on the Ethernet card and TCP/IP protocol contained in the Advan-ced Setting CD.

ADSL:Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. It is a digital line foraccessing Internet at high speed.

Antivirus:An application that detects and removes any computervirus and other malicious programs.

DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol):A protocol that allows the hosts of a network to obtain theIP configuration settings automatically.

DNS (Domain Name System):Domain Name Server.The server translates a domain name(the name of amachine) into its corresponding IP address.

Encryption or cryptography:The science that enables one to encode and decipherinformation using techniques that make it possible toexchange me sages in a safe and secure way, becausethey can only be read by the persons to whom they areaddressed.

Ethernet Cable:A cable that is used to transmit data at high speed in

Local Area Networks (LAN).

Firewall:Ahardware or software element that is used in a computernetwork to control andmanage the network traffic, eitherallowing it or rejecting it, according to the network policiesdefinedby theorganization thatmanages thenetwork.Itmayblock the establishment of the connection to the Internet.

Fixed / Dynamic IP Addressing:It indicates how Telefónica assigns the IP address to yourline. If every time that your router starts a session it can beassigned a different IP address, this indicates that your ser-vice includes dynamic addressing,which is the default typeof addressing.However, if you are always assigned the sameIP address, then your IP addressing service is fixed or static.

Microfilter:It is an element which filters the ADSL signal and separateit from the phone signal, so that it is possible to makephone calls and surf at the same time without interrup-tions or drops.

PCMCIA:It is ahardwareelement that is normallyused in laptop com-

puters to expand their capacities.Themost common case isthat of wireless network adapters,which are of this type.

Ports:Physical or logical connections for sending or receivingdata. It allowsa program to communicate via the network.

Socket:A plug that is usually installed on thewall that enables thetelephone cable to be connected.

SSID (Service Set Identifier):A code included in all the packages of a wireless networkso that they can be identified as being part of that net-work. An SSID thus enables one tomake a distinction bet-ween the different wireless networks that exist.

TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol):It is a set of network protocols upon which the Internet isbased and which allow data to be transmitted betweencomputer networks.

Web Space:It is a service that enables the user to offer his or her ownweb sites or documents so that they will be accessible on

the Internet.

Web Browser orWeb Explorer:It is an application that enables the user to access andviewhypertext document, commonly inHTML format, thatis available on the Internet.

WEP Key:A key that is used to authenticate a user who connects toawireless network that uses this type of encryption (WEP).It permits encrypting of sent data.

Wireless Client:A hardware or software element that is used to connect toa network of computers without any kind of cable beingused for the purpose.
