Connectivity

IRIS

Intelligent Release Inter-connect System (IRIS) is an evolutionary fibre optic

inter-connect system, which disengages upon impact to a traffic control

enclosure. IRIS™ allows for a fully restored fibre optic connection, without

field repair or re-termination of the fibre optic cable. Most importantly, IRIS

protects the installed fibre plant from damage when the control enclosure

is impacted.

Designed to sense mechanical axial and shear loads from within the traffic

control enclosure, IRIS’s patent-pending release technology releases and

separates, thereby protecting the installed fibre plant. When the sensing

ring is pulled by a horizontal force within a 360 degree horizon, the

mechanical latch surrounding the engaged fibre optic connector is tripped.

The multi-channel fibre optic connector disengages and retracts under

positive pressure, thus ejecting the plug to ‘break away’ from the receptacle

in milliseconds, avoiding collateral damage by the collapsing traffic

control cabinet.

• Plug-and-play inter-connect

• Eliminates fibre maintenance points

• First completely dust proof and waterproof system

• Pre-terminated to eliminate field installation time and cost

• Minimizes collateral damage

• Minimizes downtime

• First true reusable breakaway system

• No need for additional patch cords or panels

• True backbone fibre protection

Pre-terminated Cable Assemblies

AFC manufactures a comprehensive range of high quality pre-terminated

cable assemblies in our modern manufacturing facility in Melbourne.

Assemblies can be manufactured with a vast variety of connectors to virtually

any combination and length using various cable types.

Pre-terminated cables are ideal for infrastructure projects as they eliminate

the need for onsite termination and tooling and making installation easy while

protecting the fibres. AFC offers:

• A wide range of connector and cable options

• Loose tube, riser, mil-spec, breakout cables

• High quality factory terminated connectors

• Fibre protection during installation and hauling

repair fibre cables in harsh environments such as in underground pits or

aerial applications. All cable entry and exit ports are sealed and accessed

as required.

The enclosures include splice cassettes for fusion splicing and you can

easily access them without the need for special tooling. They feature

a lockable clamp to prevent unauthorised entry and can be pole and

wall mounted.

• Heatshrink or mechanical seals

• IP68 enclosures

• Wide variety of fibre configurations

• All items provided for splicing and sealing

• Plug-and-play inter-connect

• High quality factory terminated connectors

• IP rated housing to protect against water and dirt ingress
