One convention of a magazine I have used on my front cover is the masthead. The masthead is the bold title at the top of the magazine usually the name of the magazine. For my masthead it chose to use bright colours like pink yellow and blue, I chose these as I feel they conform to the stereotypical colour scheme of a pop magazine as seen in 'top of the pops' and ;we love pop' . Before choosing the colour scheme I done research on some commonly read and popular pop magazines to have a clear vision of how to create my own. I found that they tend to use these bright colours as they stand out to the target audience of young teens, male and female, hence why I also chose the blue so it also appealed to males as well. The next convention I used in my magazine is the main image, I chose to do a boy band as it appeals to both genders, males can relate and learn and get advice from the boys, the females like to learn and get an insight to what boys like and don’t like and how they live. For my image, I based my photo-shoot a lot on pictures of 1Direction as I believe they are one of the most famous boy bands at the minute. The shot i used for my main image was a mid shot as it shows enough of all the boys equally without being to close, the boys were all facing the camera as this means at every angle you look at the magazine they are still facing you.

The boys I photographed are all in suits, I believe this conforms and challenges the conventions of a pop magazine as in most images the boys tend to be in their own or casual clothing, I liked this idea however I wanted the boys to look sophisticated in the images to appeal to a wider age group, However this also conforms as I researched a few other boy bands who have done front covers and I have seen a few who were suits like Mcfly and The Wanted, Therefore this both challenges and conforms to the conventions of a pop magazine.

I chose the boys I did because I believe that as they are naturally friends it allowed them to be comfortable around each other and I was able to get good, natural photos, this is another convention I have seen on a few magazines. Sometimes the photos are posed, other times they used natural photos of the musician/s or celebrity just having fun and enjoying themselves which I decided would work better as it makes the magazine more fun and interesting. I also chose to use another bunch of photos at the bottom of y magazine, for this I chose a group of people I thought would be happy and smiley in order to match the conventions of the magazine

After creating the main image and masthead I then began to add the cover lines. For this I created for both males and females, I started by coming up with things that would interest and attract girls to the magazine, for example, quizzes about the boys in the band, chart tips and fashion. After this I then created some for the boys as well, I made some cover lines for the boys including fashion tips on how to impress a girl on a first date. For my main cover line, I made it stand out by putting hearts and shapes around it with a bright font to make it stand out over the rest of the magazine.
