The Kiddie Academy of Delran Newsletter
October 2015
Per the state of New Jersey, it is mandatory for all children from 6 months—59
months of age enrolled in a childcare center to receive the flu vaccine by December
31st. If children do not have the vaccine they can be excluded from daycare until
March 31st, 2011 which the health department sees as the end of flu season. In the
past, the state has dropped this mandatory statue because of lack of vaccine. If we
are notified of any changes we will pass on the information. So for now, we will need
your child’s latest shot records that shows the date of the flu vaccination.

The next
Pajama Day
is 11/17
Children's clothing should be comfortable, allowing complete freedom of movement, washable, and suitable for daily indoor and outdoor activities. Since children spend time outdoors almost every day, parents should consider weather conditions when planning daily dress. To encourage development of independent bathroom skills, children's clothing should be easy for them to manipulate with a minimum of assistance.
Children must wear shoes which are practical as well as comfortable. Sneakers and sandals that have closed heels are acceptable. Flip Flops are not permitted at Kiddie Academy unless they have a heel strap. Girls should wear shorts under dresses and skirts. A complete change of clothing should be kept at the Center, if the child is potty training 2 or 3 complete sets of clothing should be left.
Except for special items needed to smooth the transition from home, toys and personal belongings should remain at home. This will avoid lost possessions and hurt feelings. The Center will make reasonable efforts to safeguard children's personal belongings and clothing, but will not be responsible for lost or damaged items. Please label everything!
Candy, gum, and money should never be brought. Anything left at the center more than 30 days after the last day of attendance will be discarded due to room space.
Clothing and Personal Belongings
The cool weather is here and it is that time of year again to change the spare clothes in
your child’s cubby. Please provide pants, long sleeve shirt, socks and
underwear. You never know when your child might have an accident or get messy during
the day. Also, make sure that everything is labeled, including the spare clothes, jackets, hats
and any additional outer wear. We do not want children to go home with the wrong items.
On Monday, November 24th we will have a
Thanksgiving lunch complete with turkey,
mashed potatoes, stuffing and desserts for
the children.
On Wednesday October 30th we will be celebrating Halloween here at Kiddie Academy with a children's parade and parties in the classrooms. The parades will start at 9:15 with the Infants, Roo’s, Turtles, Lions and Penguins. At 3:15PM The Hippos, Bears, Dolphins, Zebras, and Kindergartners will go. We will be asking for 2 parents in each classroom to volunteer to help get the children ready and to help the children walk the parade route. Please see your child’s teacher if you can help. Please remember that we do have children of all age groups and some children may be afraid of certain things. Please no masks or face paint or weapons. The parties will be held at different times through out the day. Please check with you child’s classroom for the time and what they will need. A lot of the classes are opting to do a lunch so please check to see what you can donate to the classroom. If you have any questions about the costumes, please don’t hesitate to ask Codi or Faith.

K issable Kangaroos We have a lot to look
forward to in the month of October for our Kangaroos! We have celebrated Fire Safety week and had a visit from the Delran Fire Department. We had a great time going outside and seeing the fire truck! We colored firemen pictures and have been dressing up like firemen with the hats the fire company gave us. As always, we had lots of fun on pajama day. Everyone’s pajamas were adorable. We have been enjoying making lots of Halloween crafts such as ghost, bats, pumpkins, spiders and more. Our Halloween parade and party were such a blast. We were so tired afterword that we all slept very well at naptime. Thank you to all the parents who came to help out at our Halloween party! Happy Halloween Kangaroos!
We had so much fun in the Cubs and Puppies rooms in October. In the beginning of the month, we got see the firetruck when they came to visit. It was so exciting to see the lights flashing. We were all amazed at how big the truck was compared to us. As we welcomed fall, we noticed the change in the weather and how the leaves were changing
on the trees. We even did some fun fall artwork. As the month came to an end, we got to celebrate Halloween by “walking” in our annual Halloween parade. Then later in the afternoon, we watched the big kids have their parade. It was so neat to see everyone in the costumes. We also wanted to take a moment to thank all the parents who bought books for us from the book fair!
T errific Turtles The BOO!! Turtles can’t believe how fast October has come
and gone. We really enjoyed learning all about different fall and Halloween themes. The Turtles enjoyed learning about pumpkins. We made different Jack-O-Lanterns, and our favorite part was going Pumpkin picking out on our playground. We also had lots of fun learning about different spooky creatures and characters. The Turtles were very excited to visit the Fire Truck as we learned about Fire Safety and we all really excited making our very own Fire Hat. The Turtles learned about autumn this month and we enjoyed going on Nature Walks as homework with our parents. We used the leaves we found on our nature walk to create most of our crafts. Our favorite week was Halloween week. We had a ball splashing in different paints to make different scary and creepy crafts such as ghosts, bats, and witches. The Turtles also had lots of fun during our Halloween parade. We would like to thank all of our parents for all the contributions for our party. Also October brought us some birthdays. Happy 2nd Birthday to Helen and Mary Edmonson, and Adriana Butler!

L ovable Lions It has been an outstanding October in the Loveable Lions classroom! Our month began with a unit about different types of animals. We
read different books including “The Noisy, Noisy Farm” written by Stephanie Stansbie and “Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?” written by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric
Carle. During art class, we decorated giraffes with dot to dot paint, made penguins out of different size hearts, and made our own snakes. Then we moved on to the “Halloween” unit. The children enjoyed many activities, stories, and songs about Halloween. One of the books that we read was “Pete the Cat - Five Little Pumpkins” written by James Dean. The children enjoyed creating different Halloween creatures with their hand and footprints! During Math class, the children enjoyed charting our favorite Halloween candies. The Lions welcomed their new Assistant Teacher, Miss Nora, at the end of the month. The Lions can’t wait to see what is to come in the month of November!

P layful Penguins The whole month of October was mostly dedicated to the kid’s favorite spooky Halloween stories and songs. We decorated bats,
mummies, witches, Frankenstein, Candy corn and made creepy sensory bottles full of gloppy creepy bugs and eye balls. Our penguin friends also enjoyed a sensory table full of all things Halloween. It was filled with rice and noodles in the Halloween
colors, as well as, eye balls, creepy bugs, worms, skeleton arms, rats in a pumpkin scent. The children enjoyed creating crafts for the wonderful fall season. Please look out for our beautiful hand print apples. They also enjoyed exploring the outside. We noticed the change of weather, leaves and talked about why they change color. The children also enjoyed learning about farm animals and creating horses, cows and hand printed chickens, sinning old Mac Donald. Reciting different animal noises was the penguin’s favorite thing to do during circle time. Our penguin friends also got to go pumpkin picking on our playground. We also had a few new friends start with us this month like Noah Jones, Landon Vajda, Lillian Manzi, Cirillo Wallace, Talia Samuel, and Giselle Ottey. We welcome you to the penguin room! Over all, we had a spooktacular blast, and can’t wait till our the festive month of November.
H uggable Hippos The Hippo’s had an awesome October! We learned about tons of different animals and where they live! We learned about farm
animals and we made awesome cows and pigs to put in our class barn. Then we learned about rainforest animals such as monkeys, parrots, and chameleons. We absolutely loved hanging the monkeys from the vines over the kitchen! So much fun! We also prepared for Halloween, learned about forest animals, and the season fall. We went for a nature walk where we collected fall items such as sticks, different colored leaves, and even pinecones! We looked around for forest animals and we saw squirrels, birds flying and chirping, ants and bugs, and we talked about what sound an owl makes! HOOT HOOT! We created some imaginative Halloween decorations that we absolutely love to look at every day. Our favorites are the Pumpkin Patch Families hanging from the ceiling (3rd year in a row!) and our witches broomsticks hanging from the ceiling in the hallway. Our Halloween party was so much fun and our parade was amazing! We loved seeing each other in our super cool costumes. Halloween is a great transition into the holiday season! We can’t wait to begin learning about Our World in November!
B ouncing Bears This month our theme was animals. Each week we learned about a different farm animal. We had a lot of fun pretending to
move and sound like the animals on the farm. We also took a fantastic field trip to Indian Acres Farm. While we were at the farm, we learned all about the life cycle of
pumpkins. Then we went pumpkin picking and explored a variety of play structures. We also learned about water animals and explored an array of animals and water beads in the Sensory Table. During the last week of October, we started to prepare for Halloween. We learned a poem called 5 Little Pumpkins. We also talked about safety and stranger danger. We also got to dress up in dramatic play and acted out different scenarios. This month was extra exciting because Miss Gina became our new teacher in the Bears classroom and Miss Christina joined our Bears family as our second teacher. We can’t wait to see what they have to teach us.

Z any zebras The Zebras are learned so many things in the month of October. First, we would like to wish a very “Happy Birthday” to Madeline 10/7! The Zebras learned
the letters E,F,G,H and what each letter sounds like. We are excited and proud that we now recognize eight sight words and some of us are beginning to write our own names. The Zebras have made some great art work this month too. We created an Elephant and Horse for our letters of the week. We also decorated the letter G with some art supplies such as gem, glitter, glue, geometric shape stickers. This month was all about community helpers such as: Fire fighter, Nurse and Dentist. When learning about the dentist, we made a mouth out of construction paper and added Marshmallow (teeth). We enjoyed that part a lot. Our trip to the Pumpkin Patch was awesome. The Zebras were so excited to ride the bus! The day was so busy with hay rides, picking their own Pumpkins and playing with friends. Thank you to our Parents who came on the trip! Then we had a Halloween parade which was awesome!!!! The Zebras looked great in their costumes. Thank you again to our Parents for bringing in the snacks and juice. The Zebras had a blast!
D azzling Dolphins Our monthly theme for October was “My Community” split into four types of groups: Community Helpers, Healthcare, Safety and Service Workers.
During week one, we learned about letters Mm, Nn, Oo, Pp and talked about Teachers, Postal Workers and Librarians. The children discussed the roles and responsibilities of each worker and set up a station for each job in dramatic play. The children really enjoyed playing teacher. It was funny to see how they portray us. We searched for stamps in sensory and
matched them to one already taped to the table, sorted mail in the mail room and created our own stamps. We had a visit from a Librarian from the Westhampton Library, she read some really cool pop-up books and afterwards we did a Dalmatian craft with her. Then we moved onto Healthcare where we learned about Dentist, Doctors and Veterinarians and learned about letters Qq, Rr and Ss. We painted with dental tools in art, played the game Mr. Big Mouth, and set up a dentist office in dramatic play where patients could get there check-ups or cavities filled. We talked about why people visit the doctor, what their job is and how nurses assist them in helping others. We learned about what a vet does, who they take care of and talked about if their job is similar or very different from a doctor’s job. At the math center, we has to place the matching numbered pet into the correct bed, set up a Vet’s Office to care for all the sick animals and the children played Pet Shop. Safety was our next stop where we learned all about Police Officers, Firefighters, Crossing Guards, what their jobs are and how they help the community. In the block center, we built a Police Station and role played being officers of the law, then we built a Fire Dept. In sensory we searched for flames with the letters Uu/Vv and sorted them, explored with different types of turtles for letter Tt and in art made a wagon with the letter “W” in it. Last but not least was our Service Workers: Construction, Hair Stylists, Restaurant Staff and we learned about letters Xx, Yy and Zz. In math, we sorted tools by color, type and size, created a construction site in our sensory table filled with black beans and built a house in the block center using a variety of tools. In dramatic play we set up a Beauty Shop where lots of customers came to get their hair done daily. We talked about the different people who work in a restaurant and what their roles are. Then in art we created our own menu where some of us cut out the pictures from magazines while others wrote the name of the food. The children did a great job with this unit, were very excited about the activities and they are also doing an outstanding job with ABC Boot Camp.

Kindergarten In October, Tigers worked on letters T, S, I, and C. We practiced counting, finding numbers on a hundreds chart, and adding and subtracting numbers to 5. We used cards to find out which numbers are more, colored patterns, and counted candy corn. We started the month learning about Nursery Rhymes. We worked on Twinkle Twinkle
Little Star, Itsy Bitsy Spider, and Humpty Dumpty. We listed rhyming words, learned sight words and, are, and you, and fixed the words in the poems that Miss Jessica recited incorrectly. The following week we learned about autumn. We explored fall items that we found on our walk, pulled out the insides of a pumpkin and counted the seeds, and mixed fall colors with finger paint. We had lots of fun on our Pumpkin Picking Trip. We learned the sight words said, see, and like, recited fall poems, and discussed the changes in weather that are occurring. We also learned what animals do in fall. Next, we learned about Plant Needs and Parts. We learned the parts of a flower and that plants need water, air, sun, and soil to grow. We planted grass seeds, learned sight words is, in, and it, and wrote about how we can make our world more beautiful. We used dot paint to paint a garden, retold the story, The Carrot Seed, and put our magnet letters in alphabetical order. We ended the month learning about Halloween. We did experiments with vinegar and baking soda, gummy bears, and yeast. The students loved watching what happened with our experiments. We learned the poem Five Little Pumpkins and made a matching art project. We used tape and paint to make spider webs, contact paper and tissue paper to make jack-o-lanterns, and listed what we would see, feel, and hear in a haunted house. We learned sight words come, help, and here, matched numbers with spiders, and used finger paint bags to practice writing our sight words. We also had a great time at our Halloween parade and party.
Last year we had a few minor accidents coming off Route 130 due to bad weather. To help prevent them we would like to
remind everyone that we do have a back entrance off of Tenby Chase Drive. If you are driving North on Rt 130 you can just pass our center and take the right onto Tenby Chase in front of the PNC Bank. At the back of the bank before the apartments on the right is our back entrance. It will take you behind the bank, the Mancine Center and Advanced Auto to our building. Rt 130 can be dangerous and I would like to see everyone be as safe as possible. FO

Through self reliance we negotiate our own path. The children can weigh
their choices and make their own decisions to become independent .
Monthly Goal: provide oppor tunities for problem solving and making
choices. Let the children do as much for themselves as possible.
Children are born totally dependent on adults to provide for their needs;
however, their survival depends on earning skills to be self-sufficient and
independent. Set up activities at which all children will succeed:
Molding with play dough and clay Building with Blocks Pouring water from one container to another Sifting and funneling sand into several sizes of containers Playing games that everyone wins
