The Epiphany of the Lord – January 7 de Enero 2018– Epifanía Del Señor

“Vimos su estrella en su ascensión y hemos venido a hacerle homenaje (Mateo 2: 2) ". Hoy celebramos la Epifanía del Señor o la visitación de los magos de oriente a ver a Jesús. La epifanía es “la manifestación de Dios en parte de Jesus al mundo (Enciclopedia católica).” Un evento donde Jesús es reconocido

como el salvador del mundo y debe ser adorado como Dios. Tres individuos que han viajado grandes distancias para conocer “al recién nacido rey de los judíos (Mt. 2:1), Jesús” Este fue un viaje difícil para ellos porque no vivían a la vuelta de la esquina de la tierra de Israel, viajaron a grandes distancias para ver al recién nacido. El viaje de los Reyes Magos no solo fue un viaje físico, sino que también iban a visitar un nuevo lugar, pero también fue un viaje spiritual. No estaban seguros de lo que encontrarían en la tierra de Israel. Finalmente llegaron a Belén, encontraron un niño con su mama en un simple pesebre. Ellos se preguntaban: ¿Cómo un Rey pudo haber nacido en un lugar tan simple y humilde? Este viaje espiritual no termina con los Reyes Magos, también es nuestro viaje spiritual. Nosotros también estamos buscando al Niño Jesús, nuestro rey y salvador. Pero, hay una diferencia entre nosotros y el viaje de los Reyes Magos; nosotros ya sabemos donde esta Jesús. Los Reyes Magos estaban buscándolo por primera vez y fueron capaces de crecer en su fe. Nosotros tenemos una comprensión completa de quien es Jesús y somos capaces de crecer en nuestra fe y relación con El debido a nuestro bautismo. Nuestra vida de fe es un viaje espiritual y en cada Epifanía somos llamados a crecer e incrementar nuestra fe en Jesús. Somos diferentes hoy a como éramos el año pasado y nuestra relación personal con Jesús se ve afectada por nuestras experiencias de vida. La estrella tal vez brille en frente de nosotros, pero fallamos en ver y reconocer al rey recién nacido. Tal vez estamos buscando otras estrellas que pensamos nos van a salvar, pero que solo nos apartan de la verdadera estrella, Cristo. La verdadera estrella está Aquí “y hemos venido a hacerle un homenaje”. Los Reyes Magos encontraron lo que estaban buscando y se regocijaron. ¿Lo hemos buscado o lo estamos buscando en nuestras vidas?

Today we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord or the Visitation of the Wise Men from the East to see Jesus. The epiphany is “a manifestation of God through Jesus to the whole world (Catholic Encyclopedia).” An event where Jesus is recognized as the savior of the world and should be worshiped as God. Three individuals have traveled a great dis-tance to find “the newborn king of the Jews (Mt 2:1),” Jesus. This journey was difficult for them because they did not live close to the land of Israel, they had to travel a great distances to see this “newborn child.” The Wise Men's journey was not only a physical journey, them going to visit a new place, but it was a spiritual journey also. They were not sure what they would encounter in the land of Israel. Finally arriving in Bethlehem, they found a child with his mother in a simple manger. Won-dered: how can a king be born in a simple/humble place? This spiritual journey does not end with the Wise Men, it is our spiritual journey too. We are also looking for the child Jesus, our savior and king. But, there is one difference between us and the Wise Men's journey; we know who Jesus is. The Wise Men were seeking Him for the first time and were able to grew into their faith. We have a full under-standing of who Jesus is and are able to grow in our faith and relationship with him because of our bap-tism. Our life of faith is a spiritual journey and eve-ry Epiphany we are called to grow and increase our faith in Jesus. We are different today then we were last year and our personal relationship with Jesus is changes because of our daily life experiences. The star of Bethlehem shines brightly in front of us, but we fail to recognize and see the newborn king. We seek others stars that we think will save us, but they lead us away from the true star that is Jesus Christ. The true star is Here “and we have come to do him homage.” The Wise Men found what they were searching for and rejoiced. Have we or are we still searching for Him in our lives? PADRE MALDONADO CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY

This year the Diocese of El Paso will celebrate the centennial anniversary of the ordination of San Ped-ro de Jesus Maldonado, the Apostle of El Paso. He was ordained on January 25, 1918 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. On Friday January 19th at 7pm we will have a mass here at St Pius in honor of San Pedro

Maldonado. We will also display relics of his for veneration. I hope you can join us to honor the Saint from El Paso.

Este año, la Diócesis de El Paso celebrará el centenario de la ordenación de San Pedro de Jesús

Maldonado, el Apóstol de El Paso. Fue ordenado sacerdote el 25 de enero de 1918 en la Catedral de San Patricio. El viernes 19 de enero a las 7pm tendremos una misa aquí en San Pío en honor a San Pedro Maldonado. También mostraremos reliquias suyas para veneración. Espero que puedan unirse a nosotros para honrar al Santo de El Paso.

THE SAINT OF EL PASO

San Pedro de Jesus Maldo-nado, a name that my sound strange and new to us. This was a man of deep faith and one who followed Jesus and lived the example of Jesus in his life. His is the only saint from Chihuahua and lived during a time of perse-cution in the 20th century. San Pedro lived during the second Mexican Revolution in the 1920's. A person of deep faith, he wanted to serve the people of God and entered seminary to study for the priesthood, but his studies were delayed be-cause of the revolution and he studied music. He re-turned to his studies, but had to flee to El Paso where he finished his formation. He was ordained at St Patrick's Cathedral by Bishop Anthony Schuler on January 25, 1918. EL SANTO DE EL PASO

San Pedro de Jesús Maldonado, un nombre que sue-na extraño y nuevo para unos de nosotros. Este era un hombre de profunda fe y alguien que siguió y vivió el ejemplo de Jesús en su vida. El es el único santo de Chihuahua y vivió durante una época de persecución en el siglo XX. San Pedro vivió durante la segunda Revolución mexicana en la década de 1920. Una persona de profunda fe, quería servir al pueblo de Dios y entró en el seminario para estudiar para el sacerdocio, pero sus estudios se retrasaron por a la revolución y estudió música. Volvió a sus estudios, pero tuvo que huir a El Paso donde termi-nó su formación. Fue ordenado en la Catedral de San Patricio por el obispo Anthony Schuler el 25 de enero de 1918.
