Descrizione del corso The focus is on regional and municipal development ("local development") to support economic and social progress, political and social stability. The objectives are to: § educate and train students from countries in transformation through theoretical and practical learning on local development, with particular concern for ethnically complex situations, and through direct contact with European best practices; § develop the students' abilities to elaborate localised knowledge and manage the components of local development according to the acquis communautaire and EU standards; § build an institutional bridge between "old" and "new" European universities, local authorities, firms and other organisations and those of countries in transformation; § create strong ties with the alumni in order to guarantee continuous cooperation among them and with the consortium institutions and countries. Skills obtained are: 1. deep knowledge of EU standards and best practices in local development; 2. deep knowledge of local development in different contexts and in an international perspective; 3. ability to develop effective strategies in combination with a sound theoretical and methodological framework to: § introduce, support and co-ordinate processes of transformation at local level; § co-ordinate various organisations and structures engaged in local development; § act within organisations as the interface with other organisations. The 18-month-programme is targeted for 30 students in the first year to be progressively increased to 60 students in the fifth year of the programme (third country and European students). The languages of instruction are English for classes, Italian, German, and, upon request, Hungarian and Slovenian for other activities. The core lecturers/students ratio is 1:3.0. Each student also has a personal supervisor for project work and another one for internship. The interdisciplinary and comparative study programme comprises courses in economics, law, political science, and sociology, project cycle management, workshops, internships, language courses, discussion groups, project work discussion. An introductory course and distance learning modules complete the programme. The Academic Authorities of the Partner Universities will award a joint Master Degree. The Master course combines student mobility with teaching staff mobility among the partner universities. During each year of the Erasmus Mundus Programme the students' mobility arrangements will include classroom instruction at the University of Trento plus another partner university, established on a rotation agreement, and the participation of teaching staff from each of the four partner universities. The second part of the mobility arrangements treats students individually: each student, according to the knowledge acquired, her/his interest and possibly professional background, chooses at which partner university to pursue the rest of the Master activities. Common admission criteria are: § university degree in economics, law, political science, sociology or an equivalent qualification; § functional English § computer literacy.

The teaching staff is very active in research and the students will profit from the many connections it entertains with research centers throughout the world. Traditionally number theory used the methods of algebra and analysis, to solve problems such as finding the number of integral of solutions of equations. In recent times geometric methods have been playing a more important role. Also, number theory has found important applications in areas such as cryptography, theoretical computer science, and numerical mathematics. The ALGANT course aims at introducing students into the latest developments of these fascinating subjects. Our consortium involves the universities of Bordeaux (France), Leiden (The Netherlands) and Padova (Italy), and it offers very good conditions of study. Classes will not exceed twenty students and professors have long office hours. The ideal candidate should be between 20 and 25 and must possess an academic degree from a program in mathematics lasting a minimum of three years (Bachelor). A thorough proficiency in English is required. In fact, every student of the ALGANT master will be offered the possibility to follow his entire curriculum in English. For each student a program will be tailored individually, but every student will have to go through at least two hosting institutions of the consortium. The students having successfully completed the requirements of the ALGANT programme will be well armed to pursue a career in research by preparing a PhD or by directly applying for a job in the many companies that are looking for the know-how we teach. SUTROFOR - Sustainable Tropical Forestry Erasmus Mundus Masters Course (http://www.sutrofor.net/)

We propose an integrated two-year world-class Master’s Course in Sustainable Tropical Forestry (SUTROFOR). The overall objective is to provide a top-level programme that qualifies graduates to deal with the huge challenges in contemporary tropical forestry. To obtain the SUTROFOR double degree and the Diploma Supplement, students have to acquire 120 ECTS by studying at two Consortium institutions (see below), acquiring at least 60 ECTS credits at each. All SUTROFOR modular activities can be completed in English, except the second year at Montpellier which is only available in French. Due to the one-year Course components, SUTROFOR encourages its student body to engage in local language studies available at all the partner institutions. Total student population is expected to be 150 (75 per year) giving a 5:1 student/faculty ratio. The SUTROFOR Course consists of a first study year at one of three institutions (Bangor, Copenhagen, Dresden) and a second study year at one of the four other institutions. The building stones are existing master’s programmes as well as research and network services. The aim of the first study year is to provide a thorough and broad introduction to sustainable tropical forestry. There is thus only one common first year programme specification. The learning outcomes are similar for the three first year institutions and will allow students to choose freely among the five specialisation options in the second year. The first year ends with the Joint Summer Module including field work in a tropical country. Specialisation options in the second year are: (i) Agroforestry systems (Bangor), (ii) Socioeconomics of tropical forestry (Copenhagen), (iii) Tropical forest management (Dresden), (iv) Environmental management and policies for tropical forests (Montpellier), and (v) Ethics and responsible trade in tropical forest products and services (Padova). All parts of the SUTROFOR Course are described using the SUTROFOR standards developed by the Consortium : (i) a standard programme specification, including the ten main learning outcomes of each part of the Course and the relationship between learning outcomes and modules, and (ii) a standard module description. There is only one common set of admission criteria, only one common application procedure, and only one joint student selection process. The main student selection criteria are: a good first university degree; the applicant’s CV; documentation of proficiency in English (and French if choosing Montpellier); the applicant’s personal statement of motivation; recommendations from two references, of which at least one academic. The SUTROFOR Course thus offers a truly integrated study programme that is already fully recognised in all the participating countries. The following degrees are awarded: MSc in Agricultural Development in Copenhagen, MSc in Environmental Forestry in Bangor, MSc in Tropical Forestry in Dresden, MSc in Tropical and Rural Forestry in Montpellier, and MSc in Forestry and Environmental Sciences in Padova.
