Hyperbole is a figure of speech that uses an exaggerated statement to create a strong emotional response. As a figure of speech it is not intended to be taken literally. Hyperbole is frequently used for humour.

DEFINITION

As a literary device, hyperbole is often used in poetry and is frequently encountered in casual speech.Many times the usages of hyperbole describe something as better or worse than it really is.

Hyperboles offer critical insight into the understandings of one’s theory of knowledge and nature of one’s total being. These were the theories established about hyperboles hundreds of years ago.

PUN

Pun is the humorous use of a word in such a way as to suggest two or more of its meanings or the meaning of another word similar in sound

The pun is also called paronomasia , it is a form of word play that suggests two or more meanings, by exploiting multiple meanings of words, or of similar-sounding words, for an intended humorous effect.

Puns are used to create humor and sometimes require a large vocabulary to understand. Puns have long been used by comedy writers, such as William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, and George Carlin.

Let’s talk about rights and lefts. You’re right, so I left.

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

A boiled egg every morning is hard to beat.
