Model ‘CRP’ Rotation Set PackerThe CRP packer is a rotation set packer designed to run below a down hole gas separator. It uses a Tubing Anchor Catcher to anchor the packer to the casing. After the packer is set there is no movement to wear out the slips or other parts, allowing it to stay set under the most severe conditions.

Special Features• Short and compact•Inexpensive•Easy to set and release•Tubing can be left in tension, compression or neutral•Built in fluid bypass for running and retrieving

Running and Setting ProcedureMake up packer on top of tubing anchor by holding backup on lower mandrel of packer and wrench on bottom of anchor. Make up Gas Separator up on top of packer, hold backup on top sub of packer and wrench on bottom on gas separator. Make up pump seating nipple in top of gas separator and run in hole slowly to setting depth. Make sure all tubing joints are tight. Rotate the tubing to the left 5 to 7 rounds to set the tubing anchor. The tubing should torque up when the slips contact the casing, continue turning the tubing 3 to 4 rounds to shear the rotational shear screw in the packer and expand the packing elements. Hold torque on tubing while setting down and picking up to be sure the packer and anchor is securely anchored to the casing. Land the tubing with the desired amount of tension.

Releasing Procedure Set 2000 lbs down on anchor and rotate to right until anchor releases.

ROTO-SET PackerThe ROTO-SET Packer is designed to withstand the cyclic loads placed on the packer in a rod pumping well but may be used in other production packer applications as well.

Applications• Deviated or horizontal wells• Down hole gas separator• Gas lift wells• Plunger lift wells• Pumping below a casing leak• Isolating perforations

Special Features• Right hand rotation only is required to set slips, close bypass and pack off element• May be set with power tongs with no danger of backing off the tubing• After setting there is no movement in setting mechanism to cause wear• Easy to set and space out• Carbide insert slips are standard for better holding• Slips and drag springs have wider setting range to work in most casings weights• Tubing may be landed in tension, compression or neutral• Released by Straight Pull• May be run with an On-Off Tool

Setting ProcedureRun packer in hole using normal speed and caution when running a packer. Lower packer to setting depth and rotate the tubing to the right with power tongs until the slips engage the casing and the tubing torques up. Keep turning the tubing until there is approximately 500 ft lbs torque on the packer. This should take about 8 rounds in most cases. The casing size and weight may cause this to vary slightly. Hold torque and pick up to the desired tension to check spacing, then set weight down to work the torque down to the packer. Pull tension and set down again while holding torque, the release torque and land tubing on the wellhead.

Releasing ProcedurePick up on tubing to shear the releasing pins that are normally set at 30,000 lbs but can be adjusted in the field up to 50,000 lbs. If an On-Off Tool is run above the packer, the tubing can be pulled without pulling the packer. The packer may also be released by left hand rotation if desired.

WRL Production PackerThe WRL Production Packer is designed to withstand the cyclic loads placed on the packer in a rod pumping well but may be used in other production packer applications as well.

Applications• Pumping below a casing leak• Isolating perforations• Down hole gas separator• Plunger lift wells• Gas lift wells

Special Features• Rotation only is required to set slips, close bypass and pack off element• After setting there is no movement in setting mechanism to cause wear• Low torque required to pack off elements• Easy to set and space out• Carbide insert slips are standard for better holding• Slips and drag springs have wider setting range to work in most casings weights• Tubing may be landed in tension, compression or neutral• Released by right hand rotation• Emergency shear release

Setting ProcedureRun packer in hole using normal speed and caution when running a packer. Make sure all connections above packer are tightened to the proper torque. Lower packer to setting depth and rotate the tubing to the left until the slips engage the casing and the tubing torques up.

Releasing ProcedureRemove tension from the packer and rotate to the right 8 or 10 turns and the packer should be free to move up or down. If the tubing is not turning on bottom, hold torque and work the tubing up and down to find a point where it will rotate. Do not let the tubing turn to the left while pulling out of the hole. Turning the tubing to the right occasionally will keep the packer from setting. The packer also has an emergency shear release that normally is 50,000 lbs but may be adjusted to a lower amount.

Type T Squeeze PackerThe Type T Squeeze Packer is a tension set packer that holds pressure above or below. The tool can be set at any depth and is used where insufficient weight is available to set a compression packer. This packer is ideal for squeeze cementing, testing, stimulation and straddle operations using a retrievable bridge plug.

The SC Tension Unloader is generally run above the Type T Packer allowing pressure equalization before releasing the packer. It also provides a bypass when running and retrieving to minimize swabbing of the elements.

The Type T Squeeze Packer emergency release system incorporates a left-hand, high ratio thread. Applying right-hand torque relaxes the packing element and moves the lower cone away from the slips enabling them to retract.

Special Features• Holds pressure from above or below• Safety release allows circulation around the slips• Full opening• Optional setting configuration• Bidirectional slips

WLTC Retrievable Bridge PlugThe WLTC is designed to perform all tasks normally required of a tubing run packer type bridge plug, but be quickly converted to run and set on wire-line. It is designed to be rugged and compact (the 41⁄2” size is only 63 inches long). When run on tubing, the WLTC can be set deep or shallow because the packing element system can be energized with compression or tension. This bridge plug will withstand high differential pressures from above or below, while its internal bypass valve is easily opened, to equalize fully prior to release.

Activated slips are always on the low-pressure side with the WLTC design, insuring that a tight pack-off is maintained. When run on tubing, a circulation passage through the tool allows fluid to bypass internally, reducing swabbing. When set, this passage allows effective washing of sand and debris above the elements, assuring easy release and retrieval. Standard equipment on the WLTC Bridge Plug includes tungsten carbide tipped slips and drag blocks, which are long-lasting and eliminate problems setting in the hardest casings.

A spring-loaded retrieving head is used to run (tubing set) and retrieve (tubing or wire-line set) the WLTC Bridge Plug. This helps prevent disconnecting the tool inadvertently. Sealer ball catcher assemblies are available.

StradasnapThe Stradasnap Packer is a tool used for selectively acidizing short intervals of casing perforations to evenly break down the formation. The span covered is determined by the spacing between the two sets of packing elements and is adjustable to any distance down to eighteen (18) inches.

The bottom of the packer is plugged by using an Equalizing Standing Valve. A Spot Control Valve should be run above the packer to control the tubing hydrostatic pressure across the perforations and contain the acid in the tubing when moving the packer to another perforation.

After locating the packer across the lower most perforation, the packer is set and the perforation is treated. Straight pick up of the tubing releases the packer to be moved up to the next perforation. When retrieving the packer, tubing fluid is dumped through the ports between the packing elements to prevent pulling a wet string.

Special Features• Adjustable spacing between packing elements using PUP Joints• Easy to set and release• Pressure equalization and by-pass

Lok-Set PackerThe Lok-Set is a compression set, retrievable packer that allows the tubing to be left in a tension, compression, or neutral condition. Application is mostly production, injection and zone isolation operations.

Special Features• Internal by-pass• Opposed dovetail slips for positive set• Holds pressure from above or below• Can leave tubing in a tension, compression, or neutral condition• Right-hand rotation sets and releases the packer• Retracted dovetail slips• Converts to mechanical bridge plug with the addition of a valve• Optional packing element systems• Large bore available (45LLS and/or 47LLS)• Parts interchangeable with other manufacturers

Setting ProcedureHang the Packer to completely stretch it out before starting in the hole. Immediately prior to running in, rotate the drag block housing sub-assembly several turns to the left to make sure the segments are functioning properly. Do not rotate the drag block housing sub-assembly to the right as this will bind the control segments and prevent them from moving after reaching setting depth.

Upon reaching setting depth, slowly lower the packer while rotating the tubing (approximately two turns right at the tool) until the packer takes weight. Set-down a minimum of 6,000 lb. to initially set the upper slips. Lowering of the tool must take place while rotating for the tool to set properly.

To fully engage the lower slips, apply an upstrain (10,000 to 20,000 lb. for sizes 41⁄2 thru 51⁄2 and 7”, and 20,000 to 30,000 lb. for sizes 85/8 and 95/8) against the tool. When the tubing is to be landed in tension, a strain greater than the landing strain should be applied during the setting operation.

To completely set the upper slips and pack-off the packing element system apply set-down weight (6,000 lb. for sizes 41⁄2 thru 51⁄2, 10,000 lb. for size 7”, and 15,000 lb. for 85/8 and 95/8). If sufficient set-down weight is not available, such as in very shallow wells, the tool can be set and packed-off by left-hand rotation or spudding.

The tubing may now be hung in tension, compression or neutral.

Releasing ProcedureApply an upstrain of approximately 3,000 to 6,000 lb. and rotate the tubing (four to eight turns at the tool) to the right until the tool moves up the hole. When releasing the packer with pressure in favor of the tubing, rotate tubing to the right slowly enough to equalize before the lower slips disengage. Continue to rotate to the right several turns while moving up the hole to be certain the slips are fully retracted.

VSI-XW Wireline SetProduction PackerThe VSI-XW Single String Double Grip Production Packer is one of the most versatile packers on the market. It is a modification of the ASI-X packer with the advantage of being able to set on electric line or hydraulically.

An On-Off Tool Stinger with Wireline Plug installed can be attached to the top of the VSI-XW Packer which can then be lubricated in the hole and set under pressure. Once set, casing pressure can be bled off and the tubing with an On-Off Tool Overshot can be run and latched onto the packer. The Wireline Plug can then be removed.

The VSI-XW Packer converts to a mechanically set ASI-X by removing the shear screws and installing drag blocks. This packer sets with 1/4 right-hand rotation; releases with 1/4 right-hand rotation and can be left in tension, compression or neutral.

Special Features• Wireline or Tubing set• Sequential releaser upper slip system• Bypass valve opens before upper slips are released• 1/4 turn to set, 1/4 turn to release (ASI-X version)• Available in shear release

R-3 Double Grip PackerThe R-3 is a double grip, compression set, retrievable packer that is mostly used in production, stimulation and testing operations.

Special Features• Differential lock helps keep the by-pass closed and locked to the mandrel during high-pressure operations• Automatically returns to run-in position when moved up the hole• Hydraulic hold-down for differential pressure from below• Long stroke mandrel simplifies circulation of fluids without releasing the packer• Large by-pass allows speedy equalization of fluids• Rocker type slips• Standard right-hand set, optional left-hand set• Large bore available (45RDL)• Parts interchangeable with other manufacturers

Setting ProcedureThe R-3 Double Grip Packer is run in with the by-pass valve in the open position to permit free circulation both through and around the packer. The packer should be run one foot below setting depth. To set the R-3, pick up the tubing to the desired setting position, rotate to the right, and then slack-off. The J-pin will move clear of the J-slot and the cone will move under the slips. Application of set-down weight, for standard packing element system (7,000 lb. for sizes 41⁄2 thru 51⁄2, 5,000 lb. for size 51⁄2 x 27⁄8, 9,000 lb. for size 7”, 11,000 lb. for size 85/8, and 15,000 lb. for size 95/8) closes and seals the bypass valve, sets the slips, and packs-off the packing elements. The formation below the packer, which is now completely isolated from the annulus above, is accessible only through the tubing string.

Releasing ProcedureTo release the packer, raise the tubing string the full length of the packer. When the J-pin of the bottom sub engages the slip stop ring (jay housing), the J-pin automatically moves into the running position. This allows the tool to be moved up or down the wellbore as necessary. When the tubing is raised to release the packer, the by-pass valve opens to permit circulation through and around the packer.

Scab Liner Packer (SLP)The Scab Liner Packer (SLP) is an economical alternative to cement squeezing casing leaks or to isolate perforations. The system consists of an upper and lower packer with liner attached between them. Since the SLP uses packer-type sections it has proven to be much more durable than cup-type scab liners. The ID’s through the system are generally limited by the liner and frequently allow injection or production tubing to be run through the system and attached to existing tools below the SLP.

The packers and liner are carried in the hole with tubing or drill pipe, 1/4 turn rotationally set and mechanically packed off with pipe weight. After setting, pack off forces areretained by body lock rings in both packers. The SLP does not remain connected to the tubing string and is not affected by production or injection tubing movement. Tubing can be pulled and re-run without disturbing the SLP The SLP can be retrieved with the running tool if desired.

Hydroset IIThe Hydroset II is a hydraulic set, mechanically held dual string production packer run above a single string hydraulic set or wireline set seal bore packer. Its short length makes it ideal for deviated wells or doglegs. Because no tubing manipulation is required to set this packer, the well head can be installed and flanged up before setting. It is available with short or long string setting capabilities and a variety of tubing connections. It is also adaptable for submersible pump applications. The Hydroset II features a sequential upper slip release system designed to release each slip individually reducing the pull required to release the packer. Due to the angles on the upper slips and upper slip cage, slips release smoothly from the casing.

Locator Seal AssemblyThe locator seal assembly is used in installations where floating seals arerequired. Once landed the seal locator prevents downward movement of

the tubing while allowing the seal to move with tubing contraction.

Anchor Latch AssemblyThe anchor latch seal assembly is used where floating seals are notrequired. This assembly allows the tubing string to be in tension orcompression. Upon set down the anchor latches into the packer and canbe removed with eight to ten right-hand turns.

Snap Latch AssemblyLike our anchor latch seal assembly, the snap latch seal assembly latches

into the packer upon set down. It can be removed with straight pull of10,000 to 12,000 pounds above tubing weight. The snap latch seal

assembly is used where a mechanical indication is required to verify theseal assembly is properly positioned in the packer bore.

Seal UnitStandard seal units are furnished with bonded nitrile rings and a 12-inchmake-up length. These units may be ordered in various lengths and withsevere service seal rings for high temperature and corrosiveenvironmental conditions.

Half Mule Shoe GuideThe half mule shoe guide is standard with the seal

assembly to allow for easy entry into the packer bore.

BA Tubing Anchor CatcherThe BA acts as a tubing anchor to maintain tension in the tubing string and as a tubing catcher to prevent parted pipe from falling to the bottom of the well. The BA is used in most rod pumping applications where it is important to maintain tension in the tubing.

Special Features• Rotate left to set, right to release• Straight pull emergency shear release• Increases pump efficiency• Improves operating costs by reducing maintenance and down time caused by tubing or sucker rod wear• Parts interchangeable with other manufacturers

Setting ProcedureAt the desired setting depth, rotate the tubing to the left with hand wrenches until the slips contact the casing (approximately five to eight turns). Maintain left hand torque while alternately pulling strain and setting down several times to work all the slack out of the tool.

Releasing ProcedureWith tubing in slight compression, rotate the tubing to the right (five to eight turns at the tool) to retract the cones from the slips and allow the slips to move back into the housing. To insure a complete release, reciprocate the tubing string a few feet while rotating a few more turns to the right before starting out of the hole. If normal release is not possible, an upstrain greater than the total shear strength of the shear pins plus the weight of the tubing.

Pump-Out Cementing SleeveThe Pump-Out Cementing Sleeve is used for cementing tubing strings in both cased and open holes. It allows for internal parts to be pumped out after the cementing process leaving a full open bore with no loss of tubing strength. Available in any material necessary to meet customer needs. A basket or packer placed below the sleeve provides a seal-point for pumping cement up the outside of the tubing string.

OperationsSimplicity is the key to the Pump-Out Plug Cementing Sleeve. Pressure applied to the trip ball moves the lower piston past the cementing ports allowing cement to be pumped outside the tubing string. After the desired amount of cement has been placed the wiper plug is pumped down to the sleeve and moves the upper piston and outer sleeve over the cementing ports. Pins are then sheared and the upper and lower pistons are pumped out of the bottom of the tool leaving a full and unrestricted opening through the sleeve. The outer sleeve is locked in the closed position.

Bit ReleaseThe Bit Release is used in operations for drilling out cement, cast iron bridge plugs and other drillable tools and thereby leaving the drill string intact as the production string. The spring loaded check valve prevents tubing back flow during drillout. After drillout a ball is dropped through the drill string and seats in the piston. Pressure applied to the drill string forces the drill bit to release and fall to the bottom of the hole

Cement Port Collar &Shifting ToolThe Cement Port Collar provides a full opening stage cementer that needs no plugs or balls to operate. An internal cementing sleeve is opened and closed with pipe manipulation using a shifting tool. Since no plugs are needed, multiple port collars can be run in a casing string. All can be operated with a single workstring trip. The port collar has a full opening to allow other tools to pass without restriction.

The Port Collar Shifting Tool uses spring loaded blocks that locate in the cementing sleeve providing a tie to the workstring. Once the blocks locate in the sleeve, right-hand pipe rotation and manipulation are used to open and close the sleeve. Multiple openings and closings are possible with each port collar.

Special Features• Sleeves lock in the open and closed position• No plug or ball drillout• Multiple port collars in the same casing string• Easy location of shifting tool in the port collar

Type A Cementing ShoePacker TypeType A Cementing Shoe is designed to effectively protect the formation below the shoe from cement contamination. The rubber packing element, when expanded, not only retains the cement above the shoe, but also assures a seal between the casing and the formation. This is particularly important in the completion of water input wells.

The Type A Cementing Shoe is made up on the casing string and run to the point where the casing is to be cemented. The tripping ball is dropped and allowed to gravitate to its seat.

Pump pressure is then slowly built up in the casing. The pressure will move the inner piston downward, allowing fluid to enter the outside cylinder. Continued pressure will force fluid behind the packing rubber while moving the top of the rubber downward. This will expand the packing rubber to seal against the sides of the open hole. Pressure of approximately 500 P.S.I. will shear the bolts holding the sliding sleeve. The sleeve will move downward, opening the cementing ports and locking the packing rubber in its expanded position. The tripping ball prevents cement slurry from entering the bottom of the shoe, and the cement leaves the casing through the cementing ports above the packing element.

All internal parts of the shoe are easily drillable.

Multi-Stage Cementing CollarOperation ProceduresThe Multi-Stage Cementing Collar is run in the casing string at the point where stage cementing is desired. The first stage shut-off baffle is installed in a collar above the float system used for the first stage. The first stage is cemented conventionally and displayed with a flexible wiper plug.

The trip bomb is dropped and allowed to fall to the lower seat of the cementing collar. Pressure is applied to the casing to open the cementing ports in the collar. The second stage of cementing is performed and the closing plug is used to displace the second stage cement. When the closing plug lands on the upper seat it closes the ports at 1000 PSI pump pressure and the cementing collar locks closed preventing cement slurry flow back.

Centralizers should run above and below the cementing collar and cementing basket run just below the ports of the cementing collar, if necessary.

NOTE: Two (2) plugs, first stage shut-off baffle, and bomb are furnished with the collar.
