Pukekohe High is a state secondary school for girls and boys from levels 9 to 13 (13-18years).The school is located in the town of Pukekohe, which has a population of 31,000. It is 50 kilometres south of Auckland city and approximately 40 minutes by car from Auckland’s International Airport. Pukekohe High has a roll of 1750 students – approximately 2% come from overseas countries. There are up to 40 places available each year for fee-paying overseas students.

Pukekohe High School offers an academic programme that delivers the seven essential learning areas specified by the New Zealand Curriculum.

Year 9 and 10 students follow a compulsory programme of English, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, Physical Education and Health as well as a language – Japanese, French or Maori. Year 9 students also experience short courses in Art, Graphics, DIT, Music, Technology (Food, Fabric & Hard Materials).

Year 10 students are able to choose two optional full year courses from their Year 9 short course experiences, which develop their interests and ability. BEA (Business, Economics and Accounting), Drama, Dance and Rural Science are also available as options in Year 10.

In the senior school (Years 11, 12 and 13), students study towards the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) levels 1, 2, and 3 along with the literacy & numeracy credits needed to gain University Entrance. Subjects available for senior students include: accounting, biology, chemistry, economics and physics. Year 13 students are also able to study mathematics with calculus and mathematics with statistics. 20 additional subjects are also available (refer to the website for more subject options)

Extracurricular Activities: Pukekohe High School offers a wide range of over 40 sports, performing arts and club activities– all students are encouraged to participate in any of these.

Sports: Athletics, badminton, basketball, tennis, cricket, cross-country, lacrosse, equestrian, hockey, netball, orienteering, gym sports, rowing, rugby, soccer, softball, squash, swimming, table tennis, and volleyball.

Cultural activities: Drama, musicals, dance, theatre sports, orchestra, jazz bands, Maori kapa haka and rock bands.

Clubs and activites: Debating and speech competitions, magazine production, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Spirit of Adventure.

English Language Courses: Upon arrival students are assessed and placed into an English class or ESOL (English speakers of other languages) that is appropriate for their ability. ESOL Classes are smaller and students receive individual assistance from teachers trained and experienced in teaching English to speakers of other languages.

Accommodation: Our homestay Co-ordinator will arrange caring, supportive, homestays close to school or on the outskirts of Pukekohe with animals. All homestays must comply with the Education Code 2016 - copies of the code are available by visiting www.nzqa.govt.nz

Term dates: Please refer to our website. Enrolments are taken at the start of each term. Enrolment forms are available on our website or by contacting the school. We also take short term students for a minimum of 4 weeks.

2019 Fees: • Tuition fees $13,400 per year,• Registration/admin fee $750/year• Homestay placement fee $150• Homestay accommodation is $285 per week.
