Hebden Bridge has a long history of flooding. The earliest records of flooding in the town are as early as 1748 with floods recorded from then until the present day. In the last 200 years, Hebden Bridge has been flooded 56 times. The summer of 2012 and also 2013 saw significant flooding within the whole Calder Valley including Hebden Bridge with over 1200 residential and commercial properties impacted as well as all major transport routes and other critical infrastructure through the valley. In response, a multi-agency project team was established to investigate flood risk management works which consisted of a number of agencies, including the Environment Agency and Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council as well as Yorkshire Water, the Canal & River Trust, Network Rail and others. More recently Hebden Bridge experienced significant flooding during the winter of 2015/2016 with flood events including river, canal and surface water flooding. The ongoing FAS aims to reduce the risk of flooding for the inhabitants and businesses of Hebden Bridge from several key areas including: 1. River flooding from the Calder and Hebden Water 2. Flooding from the Rochdale Canal 3. Surface water flooding in Hebden Bridge Calderdale Flood Partners Hebden Bridge Flood Alleviation Scheme (FAS) - A History of Flooding

The displays outline the progress we have made in the flood alleviation scheme. To begin with we describe the work that has been done to date on the identification of options and associated modelling in the following posters:

1. River flooding2. Surface water flooding3. Canal flooding4. Using the Yorkshire Water reservoirs upstream on Hebden Water to reduce flood risk

We then go on to outline our current proposals for what we hope to achieve in the town and wider catchment:

5. Natural Flood Management6. Outline proposals for the FAS

We recognise the importance of the local environment, particularly regarding the aesthetic appeal and the heritage assets of Hebden Bridge. With this in mind we outline how we are considering these key elements

7. Environmental constraints8. Landscaping and Appearance

Lastly we explain what we plan to do next

9. Future Programme

As you look at the posters, feel free to ask us any questions.

There are also questions around the room for you to think about and add your comments to help us shape the scheme design.
