COVID INTENSIVE LEARNING SUPPORT

PROGRAM (COVID-ILSP)

WHAT IS THIS?

This program is an initiative by the NSW government by

way of a grant issued to all schools in two instalments

across the 2021 school year. Due to the significant and

unprecedented interruption to student learning across

our nation’s education system funds have been forward-

ed to education institutions to enable the employment of

additional teachers to support student learning in 2021.

What does this look like at Chatham Public School? Sup-

ported by Learning and Support Teachers (LaSTs) and

additional teachers all classrooms at Chatham Public

School (CPS) have been allocated additional teacher

support across the first half of the teaching day. Teams

of teachers move from class to class providing extra sup-

port and assistance to students in the area of writ-

ing and mathematics.

Pictured below are students in Year 3 with their

tutors working on persuasive texts in small

would like to know what parents thought about the

trial. Having your say helps us to improve in sup-

porting the education of your child.

LEARNING CLUB

Just a reminder that the Smith Family Learning

Club will begin in Term 3 at Chatham Public School.

You must register your child before they attend.

This is a free initiative to support students with

homework and projects. If you want further infor-

mation or a copy of the registration form you can

contact the school 6551 1081.

After a very busy semester, I hope everyone enjoys

a well-earned break. Stay healthy and safe during

COVID-INTENSIVE LEARNING SUPPORT PRO-

GRAM (CILSP) - 23 JUNE 2021 UPDATE

This program has been operating in our school

across Years 1 to 6 for the past 15 weeks. Class-

room teachers and CILSP educators implemented

the program in week 6, Term 1, at the start of

March. The funding, for this program, was allocated

by the NSW Department of Education to all

schools, primary and high, to support students in

the possible loss of learning they experienced dur-

ing the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.

At Chatham Public School, we have embraced the

allocation of these funds employing retired / work-

ing teachers as COVID educators who support,

guide and nurture our students through small group

tuition in Writing, Reading and mathematics.

Stage Leaders Ms Long, Mr Muller and Mrs Pasi-

erbek along with each stage’s Learning and Sup-

port Teacher have spent the last 2 weeks analy-

sising and comparing student work samples and

student checklists gaining invaluable insight into

how the CILS program has positively impacted our

student achievement. The evidence shows our stu-

dents have made solid gains and value has been

added to the teaching & learning experiences.

The staff and educators look forward to continuing

this program into Term 3. Stage supervisors have

planned for reading, vocabulary knowledge and

number sense and place value to be areas of focus

for all students Kindergarten to Year 6.

GIRLS SOCCER GALA DAY

On Friday 18 June, 2021, the Girl’s Soccer Team par-

ticipated in a gala day at the Wingham Sporting Com-

plex.

There was a cold wind blowing across the fields but

that didn’t dampen the effort and enthusiasm of the

girls as they played 6 games against other schools in

our area. Their skills and teamwork improved as each

game was played.

A very big thank you to those parents/carers who as-

sisted with transporting and who supported our play-

ers on the field.

STUDENT INFORMATION 2021

A note went home with students recently regarding

student information. This note was asking parents/

carers to complete details for their children to ensure

that the school held the most up to date and accurate

information on each student. This is especially im-

portant in the situation where we may have to contact

a parent/carer urgently.

Thank you to those parent/carers who have complet-

ed and returned the note however we still have many

that have not been returned. If you have not done so

already, please complete and return to the school of-

fice as soon as possible. If you require another note,

please contact the school office on 6551 1081 where

a note can be arranged to be given to your child/ren.

Thank you for your assistance.
