HAPPY SUMMER
I hope all is well
with you. Summer is
coming. Yesss! Huge, vi-
brant dinnerplate dahlias,
lush green lawns, ripening
tomatoes, the scent of
roses dancing in the air
and fresh herbs tickling
the taste buds.
Never worry. The
Flower Bin is here to help
you enjoy the summer.
Whatever your garden
needs we have the prod-
ucts and knowledge to
help. From hats to tools,
fertilizers to gloves. We
still have a lot of flowers to
plug into spots and a fan-
tastic pottery selection.
We will see you soon.

FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD! Did you ever notice that when a child goes
through a growth spurt, they tend to eat every-thing in sight? Well, the plants growing in your garden are no different than that child. As the temperatures rise in the heat of the summer, the plants in your garden will begin their biggest growth spurt. To help keep them from stressing too much, it is important to continually feed through the summer. Here are some recommen-dations for your annual and vegetable gardens:
Annuals planted in the ground have very
different needs than those planted in containers. Those planted in the ground can get by with monthly feeding of either a side dressing of a granular fertilizer (I recommend Happy Frog Fruit and Flower or Fertilome Premium Bedding Plant Food) or a bi-weekly feeding of a liquid fertilizer (Fertilome All-Purpose Water-Soluble Plant Food is a great choice.) For those annuals planted in a hanging basket or a container, con-sider fertilizing once every 7-10 days with a wa-ter-soluble plant food. (Again, Fertilome All-Purpose Water-Soluble Plant Food will work great.)
For most items in your vegetable garden,
side dress once per month during the growing season with a granular fertilizer. Happy Frog To-mato and Vegetable is my personal favorite. An-other great fertilizer is Fertilome Gardeners Spe-cial. For those heavy fruiting vegetables (like to-matoes and peppers), I would recommend in-creasing the fertilizing to once every two weeks during the fruiting season. Keep your plants tummies full and they will reward you with an abundance of flowers and vegetables all growing season long.

THIS SUMMER SUPPORT THE POLLINATORS!!
Planting for the bees, butterflies, and
other pollinators is not only rewarding, but
helps play a major role in the production of
your flowers as well as edible plants in your
garden. Attracting these insects to your
yard will not only bring you joy but help
them to increase in numbers.
Some of the following are wonderful
perennials that will assist you in your quest
for those coveted pollinators. Plant them
now to enjoy seeing visitors in your garden
all season. Monarda (Bee Balm) not only
comes in a variety of colors, but their leaves
are aromatic and have a beautiful flower
the bees adore. Echinacea (coneflower)
bloom through the summer, are drought tol-
erant, can be used as cut flowers, and pro-
vide for the butterflies as well as providing
seed heads for the songbirds in your area.
Achillea (Yarrow), is another drought toler-
ant perennial that attracts pollinators, is fast
growing and blooms early to late summer
with a variety of colors available. One of the most common perenni-
als you see blooming around town in the late summer is the Rudbeckia (Black-eyed Susans).
Yellow and daisy-like this is a very popular choice for the bees, butterflies and birds and tend
to be deer resistant. If you want the bees a humming and provide a pollen feast, the Asters
come in a variety of bright colors to help accent your garden. Don’t forget the Lavender this
season, not only is it beautiful but it smells great!!
Come on in and we will love to assist you in finding a new pollinating perennial for your
enjoyment.
