PREFACE The final year project aims at exposing the students undergoing highertechnical studies to the thoughts and logic that must be developed to ensure that one is able tointegrate his/her ideas into something concrete. This generally is initiated by theinception of an idea ora concept, which not only aims at developing a product (Hardware or Software), but also the in-depth study of the earlier existing products in the same category and their deficiencies. Accordingly an approach is taken to propose a solution, which is better from the previous ones in one respect or the other. With the same approach in my mind, as the final year students of Bachelorof Technology (Electrical Engineering), I have taken up the ADVANCE GSM BASED HOME SECURITY SYSTEMas my final year project. Automated security systems are a useful addition to todays home where safety is an importantissue. Vision-basedsecuritysystemshavethe advantage of being easy to set up, inexpensive and non-obtrusive. Home security system for detecting an intrusion into a monitored area by an infrareddetector.Asecuritysystemhasaflee-standingintrusiondetector. The free standing intrusion detector has a transmitter coupled with a portable receiver to alert a homeowner that an intrusion has takenplace or occurred within a pre-set time period.

INTRODUCTION

Now a days most of the systems are automated in order to face new challenges and present day requirements to achieve good results. Automated systems have less manual operations, so that the flexibility, reliabilities are high and accurate. Hence every field prefers automated control systems, especially in the field of electronics.

The goal of the project is to develop a unique system through mobile technology which can control various units of the houses, industries, and also provides a security system. The various appliances can be utilized by managing them remotely by using GSM technology, which enables the user to remotely control the operations of the appliances. Just by pressing keypad of remote telephone the user can perform ON/OFF operations on the appliances.

The project also exhibits low cost home security system which is widely employed in our daily life. This system is designed to prevent the opening of the door by unauthorized persons. The structure of home security system contains a matrix key pad, the door latch opener and a GSM modem for the security dial up interfaced to the microcontroller. The keypad interfaced to the controller is used as the password entry system to open/close the door. As soon as the user enters the correct password, the door lock opens. If the password entered is incorrect, then a security alarm is rung and at the same time it enables the security dial-up through the GSM modem interfaced to the microcontroller.

The GSM modem uses the UART interface to the controller. When the unauthorized person gives an invalid password then the controller uses the modem to inform the owner. The modem receives security dial up number and the message from the controller and it uses the GSM network to transmit the message. There is a socket in the modem to insert the sim card to use the GSM network. The destination mobile number and the password are stored in the EEPROM of the controller.

BLOCK DIAGRAM

MICROCONTROLLER: This is the CPU (central processing unit) of our project. We are going to use a microcontroller of 8051 family. The various functions of microcontroller are like:I. Reading the digital input from KeypadII. Sending this data to LCD so that the person operating this project should read the passwordIII. Sensing the password using keypad and to check whether it is a correct password or a wrong password and rotate the stepper motor if the password entered is a correct password.

GSM MODEM:AGSM modemis a specialized type of modem which accepts a SIM card, and operates over a subscription to a mobile operator, just like a mobile phone. From the mobile operator perspective, a GSM modem looks just like a mobile phone.

When a GSM modem is connected to a computer, this allows the computer to use the GSM modem to communicate over the mobile network. While these GSM modems are most frequently used to provide mobile internet connectivity, many of them can also be used for sending and receiving SMS and MMS messages.

LCD Display LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. This part of the project serves the functionality of a door opening with a motor using a password entered through the touch screen. This module also turns on buzzer if 3 wrong passwords are entered consequently. The system is fully digital and can also be fully customized. It incorporates a 16X2 LCD display.

STEPPERS MOTOR:Astepper motor(orstep motor) is a brushless DC electricmotorthat divides a full rotation into a number of equal steps. Every revolution of the stepper motor is divided into a discrete number of steps, in many cases 200 steps, and the motor must be sent a separate pulse for each step. The stepper motor can only take one step at a time and each step is the same size

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM

WORKING:-

Numeric touch pad is interfaced with port of the microcontroller. User has to enter the security code using numeric touch pad. Access will be given three time for individual user. If any unknown person try to access the code after three times immediately message will be sent to the authorized person regarding illegal access.

Microcontroller is the brain of any embedded system. Microcontroller is a Microprocessor and a dozen other functions in single chip. Microcontroller takes in the password from the person to be authenticated.

GSM is used to send the message or to ring the authorized person regarding the intrusion. GSM works on UART protocol of micro controller GSM MODULE.

Motor Driver ICs are used to interface the motors with microcontroller. Stepper motor is used to open or close multiple doors.

Applications and Advantages:

1. This project can be used in offices, companies also at home. It will provide keyless entry.

2. This can be used in Banks for safety lock.

3. User dont have to carry keys along with him.
