Table Settings in Vietnam. Chopsticks should never be placed

sticking straight up in a bowl of rice => bad luck=>   Place the used chopsticks side by side either on the table or more commonly, on top of the bowl.. Most locals wipe their chopsticks off before use—a special napkin is usually provided for this purpose.

Table Settings in Britain• Solids to the left –

Liquids to the right

“b”read and “d”rink

• Pick up silverware from the outside in – toward your plate

• Put napkin on lap as soon as host does. Napkins remain on your lap until completion of meal. Never use as a bib.

- Having good dining etiquette helps to establish your credibility and reputation and affects directly the business relationships

- A lack of cross cultural awareness of dining etiquette can result in misinterpretations which may cause offense.

Business dining etiquette in Vietnam

and Britain

• The fork is held in the right and is used for eating

• To use the knife, the fork is switched to the left hand. To continue eating, the fork is switched back to the right hand.

• When eating in formal situations, rest the fork and knife on the plate between mouthfuls, or for a break for conversation.

Business dining etiquette in Britain

Presented by: Trần Thanh Phương

• If you are more comfortable eating in the continental manner, it will not offend anyone.

• Foods and drinks can be refused without causing offense.

• Many foods are eaten by hand.
