Getting Started – Teacher’s ToolkitTo access Teacher’s Toolkit for the first time:1. Go to

http://online.carnegielearning.com

2. Run the System Requirements Tool.

3. Enter your school id and username. Your username is either your email or a username that was created for you when you were added to the system.

• For new instructors, retrieve the default Toolkit user name and password from https://resources.carnegielearning.com/software

4. Enter your password. If you don’t know your password, click on “I need a new password.”

Teacher’s Toolkit - Add InstructorsTo add an instructor to the Teacher’s Toolkit:1. Use the add instructor screen to create a username and password for a new instructor. This

enables instructors to access the Teacher’s Toolkit and the teacher tools built into the software.

2. Enter the instructor’s information across each row—Last name, First name, email, and password are all required.

Teacher’s Toolkit – Create Classes

The Create Class Wizard will step you through the process of setting up your class for the software. You will name your class, choose the appropriate content, and assign students.

To create a new class, follow these steps:1. Define the Class.

– Select the instructor from the drop-down menu

– Fill in the Class Description

– Click “Continue”

2. Select Content: Select an option for the source modules

– Choose a Constructed Course

– Copy Modules from Class

– Select Modules.

Teacher’s Toolkit – Add StudentsStudents can be added to your school manually or by importing their data from a comma or tab delimited fi le (CSV). Use the add screen to manually add students to the school. To add students, you simply need to type in their information across the row. the required fields are Last name, First name, and Username.

Teacher’s Toolkit – Reports

Valuable information regarding your students’ usage of the Carnegie Learning Software is at your fingertips in the teacher’s toolkit. This information is critical for assessing your students’ learning and adjusting instruction as a result. You are encouraged to run teacher’s toolkit reports at least weekly.

Choose the report that you would like to generate from the list of reports available.

Getting Started-StudentTo launch the software as a student:

1. Go to:http://online.carnegielearning.com

2. Run the System Requirements Tool. Refer to the System requirements tool instructions for details.

3. Enter your school id and username.

4. If you have not created a password, click “I need a new password.”

a. You will be prompted to enter and confirm a password of your choice.b. You will be returned to the Login page where you can enter your password along with your school id and username.

5. Click on “Log in.”

6. Select the software that you want to launch.

• Students will enter their username and then click the “I need a new password” link

• Students will be prompted to enter their new password and confirm the password then login using their username and new password

User Name and Password• Enter the password that the student has entered and confirmed

– Example: User Name: studentPassword: ●●●●●●●●

*Note: Students must be entered into Teacher’s Toolkit before they can access the Carnegie SoftwarePasswords need to be at least 6 characters and no special characters

Student Software Buttons• Once logged in, the software is designed for students to work at their own pace

• Start Problems allows you to start problems in the software

• Glossary allows you to launch a glossary search

• Instructional Calculator allows you to launch a calculator

• Help allows you to search the software’s help

• Log Out allows you to exit the software

Student Software Buttons Within a Problem

• Step by Step will help you move through the problem in steps

• Hints are available throughout the software by choosing the Hint button

• I’m done is clicked when the student has finished the problem

• Go to Problem is available when you are within Step by Step and returns you to the problem

• Home allows you to return to the Table of Contents

• Lesson allows you to return to the Lesson

Troubleshooting• Clearing the Java cache, browser cache, and disabling pop-up blocking can

correct many issues. Conduct a Google search to find directions for your specific operating system and browser to perform these tasks

• Java error after launching the softwareAny operating system may require the installation of Java in order to use the software

You can download and install Java for free by going to http://www.java.com

Troubleshooting Cont’d• Student is unable to login to the Carnegie Learning Software

In Teacher’s Toolkit, choose Students then select List. Click the Students name that is underlined. Select the open book Icon and then select to either Restart Problem or Skip Problem. The student should be able to login after the restart
