INTRODUCTION

Common bean is grown in three different seasons in Brazil:

Dry season (February-March)

Winter season (May-July)

Wet season (October-November)

Area: 3.990.000 ha

INTRODUCTION

• Angular leaf spot– Pseudocercospora griseola – System of race identification (Pastor-Corrales e Jara 1995)

– Most frequent race– 63-63 (Damasceno-Silva et al. 2008, Balbi et al. 2009, Pereira et al. 2015)

– Variability within race 63-63 (Pereira et al. , 2015)

Page 8: Genetics and Breeding for ALS resistance in common beanarsftfbean.uprm.edu/bean/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/BDW...Genetics and Breeding for ALS resistance in common bean E.A. Souza

Wide variability has been observed in populations of P. griseola from Brazil by molecular markers, hyphal anastomosis and virulence.

Silva et al. 2015, Genet. Mol. Res.

Methodology for inoculation of P. griseola in primary leaves of common bean (Pereira et al. 2011)

Resistant- score ≤ 3 Susceptible – scores ≥ 3

Leaf-dextrose-agar media 7 days at 24 °C in the dark

2 x 104 spores/ml

9 seeds/line and two replications (trays)

PDA Media

15 dai – evaluation of ALS severity Scale 1 to 9

Rosinha – susceptible control

Greenhouse with 24 °C and 90% humidity
