Do you know any local growers ?
The school produce market is looking to ex-pand to include local (small time) growers to sell their produce. If you know anyone who fits this description please ask them to con-tact Karen on 0407 889 331 or Ellisa on 0402 696 884 for further information. It only re-quires around 1.5 hrs of time to set up and sell at the school market. There is also no cost to the grower. Parents are still encour-aged to attend the Market with any of their own produce they wish to sell—or donate produce to the ecowarriers. Why not get the kids involved too ! The next Produce Market will be held on Wednesday 9th May but we need local grow-ers for future markets.
Natasha’s exercise class on Thursday 3 May has been cancelled. Classes resume on 10 May
A word from the Principal
Kym
A view to the future
Farewell Tina the Bus Driver
Tina Smith has been the school bus driver for the last thirty four
years. Each day she ensures that our girls and boys living further
out of the Gembrook township get to school and home again.
Tina is to be commended for her patience, excellent driving
skills, her
good hu-
mour and
her care of
our students.
Last Friday
at the special
assembly for
Tina a num-
ber of the
s t u d e n t s
spoke most
kindly and
fondly about
Tina and the
daily bus trips to and from school. The whole school sang a roar-
ing rendition of ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ – with an extra verse
just for Tina! Farewell Tina and all the very best for the future.
Grade 2 Camp at Stringybark
The Year 2 students had a magnificent camp at Halls Camp. We
should be very proud of our outstanding grade 2 girls and boys.
They are to be commended
for their wonderful behav-
iour, the fabulous way the got
on with each other, their inde-
pendence and the way in
which they had a go at activi-
ties that they had not tried
before. It is not an easy task
to climb up a climbing wall
and abseil down the other
side or climb a high ladder
up a tree and fly through
the air on a flying fox -
especially if you have never
done it before. Our grade
2 class were fantastic. Well
done girls and boys! Thank
you to Dale for organising
the camp and the many staff who went out to the camp at some
stage- Tim, Tina, Tabitha, Perri and Cameron. A huge thanks to
Anthony, Karen and Leah from Halls Outdoor Camp for their
fabulous hospitality!
Roads and children- Please be careful
I had a call from a very concerned Gembrook resident about the
safety of a child on the road near the school. I urge all our fami-
lies to use the roads around the school carefully, especially dur-
ing the very wet and foggy weather. The teachers will also re-
mind the students during class about some basic road safety.
Congratulations Ayden!
Congratulations to Ayden for
his outstanding performance at
the Dandenong Ranges Music
Council Youth Awards. Ay-
den was presented with the
Bill Borthwick Young Musi-
cians Encouragement Award
for 2012. Well done Ayden …
you have magic fingers on
your guitar!
The start of the school day………….
The start of the school day is an important time when the teach-
ers explain the day’s activities and make special announcements.
It is a time for the students to develop important daily routines
that will place them in good stead for their future education.
Please… Please… Please try and ensure your child starts the day
with the other girls and boys in the class at 9am. They will have
time to say hello to their friends. They will know what is happen-
ing and be more settled ready to do their best learning!
Professor Bunsen in the Middle Learning Centre
I believe that we may have some future scientists at Gembrook
Primary School after the visit from Professor Bunsen to the Mid-
dle Learning Centre last week. He was a huge success. I have
heard some amazing stories form some very excited girls and
boys.
Jellybeanz Music
Jellybeanz Music starts next week. All students will be partici-
pating in the weekly instrumental music sessions. The program
will culminate in a performance at the Emerald Performing Arts
Centre on Thursday June 21.
Enjoy your week!

Gembrook Primary School‟s SRC has been sponsoring Felistas Shoku, her family and commu-
nity, through World Vision since 2003 when she was 5 years old.
She lives in a village just outside Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe in Africa.
Felistas‟ national language is Shona.
Kwaziwai means „hello‟, Ndinofara means „I am happy‟, and Tatenda means „a BIG thank you‟.
Felistas is in her second year of High School and is happy and healthy. She enjoys playing
Netball and can speak and write some English.
The SRC organises a variety of fundraising activities throughout the year to pay for Fe-
listas‟ sponsorship. This money has provided assistance in the form of school supplies and
clothing for Felistas, a milking goat, and toilet for her family and fresh water wells for her
village.
She receives a card and small gift on her Birthday and at Christmas.
The SRC would like you to think of Felistas whenever we have an event for her, because
every gold coin donation goes towards her sponsorship.
We are proud to be able to help a child in need.
