A VIEW TO THE FUTURE

Kym’s Comment

Angus & Connor take great leaps forward for Gem-brook Primary at the EDEC Athletics.

Dear Families and Friends

School Council 2013

The Annual Report to the Community for 2012 was presented to

School Council last week. The school community would like to

acknowledge and thank retiring members Craig Billing and Den-

ise Anile. Craig will continue to be part of school council through

the Buildings and Grounds team. The school community

acknowledges and thanks them for their contributions to School

Council. I would like to warmly welcome Brad Whatman, Pippa

Goodie, Hayley Stevens and Daniel McCoey to the 2013 Council.

Family Bush Dance The Family Dance was most successful. Thank you to the many families who were able to come along on the evening and join in with the fun. Thank you to Majella Burchill and Karen Strachen for their great organisation of this wonderful evening. Money raised from this evening and other fundraising activities this year will contribute to the installation of new playground equipment.

Many of you will have noticed the new seat at the front of the school. It is proving to be a popular spot at lunchtimes and after school for the bus travellers! The seat was purchased as part of a grant from the Bendigo Bank. Thank you to Scott Cunliffe for installing this seat.

Term 1 has certainly been a very exciting term for all at Gem-brook Primary School. It has been a fantastic start to the school year. In the classrooms the focus has been on literacy and nu-meracy. The preps have made a fabulous start to school and are already reading and writing! The student leaders, Captains, House Captains, Eco Warriors and SRC teams continue to be outstanding in their different roles around the school. Our school captains, Ella and Connor are truly wonderful at assem-

bly, at school events and around the school. There have been some outstanding personal achievements throughout the term by students and some of these were awarded with certificates at the weekly assemblies. Congratulations to all students. We are very proud of you. During the term there were many extra- cur-ricula activities including: Whole School production – Quest ; Family Movie Night;House Swimming Sports ; House Athletic sports; EDEC Sports Days; Family Bush Dance; Basketball workshops; Coastal Ambasadors; Bushdance incursion; Prep Family Night; Excel Music program; Lunchtime activities; Student leadership day; Produce Markets

Next term promises to be just as exciting. The teachers have been working together planning a fabulous array of learning challenges and activities. We will begin our Jellybeanz Music program. This program is a weekly instrumental music program for all students.

Responsibility for the produce markets will continue to be shared amongst the grades. This is a wonderful real life learning experience. Money from the market is used to purchase materials for the vegetable garden.

The SRC have organised a free dress day on Thursday to raise money for the Gembrook Primary School’s World Vision spon-sored child, Felistas. Please bring a gold coin donation. Dismissal time will be 2:30pm on Thursday 28 March and school will resume on Monday 15 April.

I wish everyone a safe and restful holiday.

Kym

We have enjoyed our first term as school captains. Both of us were nervous at our very first assem-bly but now it's much easier and very exciting. Well done to all the other students who have shared news and items at the weekly assemblies. This term has been busy with lots of events: The house athletics was hot, competitive and lots of fun. Congratulations to Kurth Kiln for

coming first.

Everyone had a great time at the swimming sports. Well done to everyone for having a go and joining in.

The movie night was lots of fun and loads of families enjoyed it. We enjoyed preparing for the Rock Ed performance which was held at EPAC last night. Every-

one had a great time The grade sixes are all enjoying spending time with their prep buddies and doing activities with

them. All the students this year are doing writers notebooks and everyone has completed their front

cover, the SLC have already started writing in them. Also, the SLC has a new inquiry unit about Australian history which will be great fun. Have a safe and happy holiday. Ella and Connor School Captains

IT’S COOL TO BE AT SCHOOL!

Term 1 has been amazing. We have had many

sport events such as the Swimming Carnival,

House Athletics, E.D.E.C athletics and swimming,

ZONE swimming, Basketball clinic and lots more.

At Gembrook we are a healthy school and do

sport with our new teacher Ms’ O’Neil on Tues-

day’s. A lot of the students here play sport at

recess and lunch like footy, cricket and basket-

ball. We are all looking forward to term 2 and

the sport events including Lightning Premiership

(3-6), H.P.V at Cardinia (5/6’s), Junior House

Athletics and heaps more. Congratulations to

Kurth Kiln who won house swimming AND sports!!

Also thank you to the house captains who assist

with all the sport events!

Wow its only the first term and we have al-

ready done so many sporting events like

swimming, EDEC swimming, zone swim-

ming, house athletics, EDEC athletics and

the basketball clinic. Our school is healthy

and fit because of our awesome sport teach-

er Mrs O’Neil who comes here every Tues-

day. We are looking forward to next term be-

cause we are doing even more sporting

events such as lightning premiership, HPV

and junior athletics. Congratulations to Kirth

Kiln for winning house athletics and swim-

ming.

This term in Eco Learning with Mrs O’Brien we have been making watering irrigation systems that slowly drip on to the plants through straw. The most AMAZING thing about this term in eco was the trip to Philip Island with Mrs O’Brien and some of the other Eco Warriors. Katie, Ro-nan, Jillian and I enjoyed our time at the nob-bies where we learnt all about wild and native animals and how they live, and what role the rangers play in maintaining the environment.
