Greenfield Community College is pleased tooffer a wide variety of unique workshopsthrough innovative Community EducationPrograms. Every year nearly 2,000 peoplecontinue their life-long learning at ourworkshops which take place at convenientlocations in Franklin and Hampshire countieswith our campus locations in Greenfield, TurnersFalls and Northampton. Topics include art, dance,computers, finance, business and renewableenergy, among others.

We offer classes in the trades for electriciansand plumbers who are working towards theirlicense as well as training for welders, machinistsand woodworkers. Our workforce developmentoffice provides business training and professionaldevelopment opportunities.

We are pleased to present workshops inresponse to community needs, often workingclosely with other organizations and drawingupon both college and community resources.GCC community education workshops enhanceactive citizenship, personal development andemployability. Instructor : John PassigliaLearn basic tools and techniques used in traditional blacksmithingusing the gas and coal forge. Techniques to include forming tapers,scrolls and leaves. Instructor : Kathleen AndersonBeginners and intermediate clayers will use multiple clay colors andbasic color theory to create several different patterned canes.Explore a variety of cane-combining and manipulation techniquesand brainstorm design and color palette inspiration. Instructor : Annie ChappellSketching outside is always a treat, and drawing in town presentsvisual challenges and opportunities to observe and capture theintegration of natural and man-made habitats. We will choose avariety of sites and work on really seeing the elements that makeup a town. No experience necessary, just pencils, pens, a drawingpad, a portable stool, and your eyes!

Instructor : Tim de ChristopherRelief carving has a rich history that spans more than 20,000 years,from prehistoric cave dwellers to modern day sculptors. Makingone is a process of translating a 2-dimensional image into theillusion of 3-dimensions. From our own designs, we will translate 2-dimensional drawings into 3-dimensional relief carvings throughunderstanding such concepts as layering forms to convey spaceand foreshortening as it relates to relief sculpture. Students will payan additional $20-50 for materials (stone). Tools will be provided(loaners).

Everyone finds a quickpath into this medium because your sketches flow into painting.Methods are easily adjusted, even redrawn, and are easy to master.Experience the basics and explore new materials and techniques.Instructor will support even the most limited palette by sharinghundreds of exciting pastels. Financial aidMany of the students attending Greenfield Community College receivefinancial aid. Financial aid funds originate from federal, state, institutional,private, and community resources. Those resources carry certainrequirements and obligations on the part of the college and the stu-dents. Your particular academic program and enrollment status mayhave an impact on your financial aid award, such as full-time vs. part-timeor repeated courses. Only matriculated students are eligible for federaland state financial aid. Students must complete the Free Application forFederal Student Aid so we may determine your eligibility.

Tuition and FeesThe Cost of Attendance: The cost of attendance varies depending onindividual circumstances such as: the student’s official permanent resi-dency status; the number of credits; the type of courses taken; whethercourses are credit courses or credit-free workshops which are pricedindividually; and whether the program has additional special fees associ-ated with it. Fee costs are separate from tuition costs. Fees arecharged the same whether a student is a resident or non-resident.There is no reduction in tuition and fees for auditing a course. TheCollege has different tuition and fee charges for day, evening, summer,and intersession courses. Tuition Rates: Residency, NEBHE, and Out-of-StateIn-State: Residents of Massachusetts pay the lowest tuition (see FigureI). In-state residents are a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident whohas established a residence in Massachusetts and have maintained con-tinuous residency in Massachusetts for at least the six months immedi-ately prior to the date of enrollment.  An individual must be able toprove Massachusetts residency for six continuous months and intent toremain in the state.   To apply for in-state residency you must completean In-State Tuition Eligibility Form. The New England Regional Student Program (NEBHE): Through theNew England Board of Higher education (NEBHE), Massachusetts par-ticipates in the Regional Student Program (RSP) which enables stu-dents from one New England state to attend public colleges or univer-sities in another New England state at tuition rates below those nor-mally charged to out-of-state students. Eligible New England studentswho reside outside of Massachusetts currently pay 150 percent of thetuition charged Massachusetts residents. Therefore, NEHBE day tuitionis $39 per credit. To qualify, a student must be a resident of one of thefive other New England states and be pursuing a degree or certificateprogram not offered at a two-year community college in their homestate or offered at a Massachusetts Community College closer to theirhome. Waivers and Third Party PaymentsThe College requires that tuition waivers be submitted by the duedate of the bill. ONLINE LEARNINGWhat to expect from Fully-Online andHybrid CoursesAll fully-online and hybrid courses are offered through Moodle, ourlearning management system. While these courses offer flexibility,they are not self-paced. Students may be expected to submit weeklyassignments and participate in weekly discussions. Courseexpectations will be outlined in the syllabus. Most students spendapproximately 12-15 hours a week participating and completingassigned work in each online course. Students in these coursesshould log onto Moodle at least once a day.

Student Responsibility in Fully-Online CoursesStudents registered for a GCC class automatically receive a studentemail account. This account is used for all college-relatedcorrespondence. NURSINGThe Associate Degree Nursing Program prepares you for a career as a nurse,providing patient care for adults and children in varied health care settings. You will berequired to take a combination of liberal arts and clinical nursing courses in sequenceover four semesters. Some students prefer to complete the program over a longerperiod of time.

Licensed practical nurses have full responsibility for the quality of the health care theyprovide to patients. The LPN participates in direct nursing care including routinepatient care, giving medications, administering treatments of all types, assisting withdiagnostic procedures and observing and reporting patient symptoms. The 40-weeklong program involves at least 30 hours a week of classes, laboratory and clinicalpractice. At this time, employment opportunities are excellent with graduates of theGCC program experiencing 100 percent employment.

OUTDOOR LEADERSHIPGreenfield Community College’s Outdoor Leadership Program is a nationallyhonored professional development curriculum. Over the course of one academicyear OLP provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary for entry levelemployment in the adventure field. We are a competency-based experiential learningcommunity. Students learn by doing. Learning activities range from extendedexpeditions to daily use of local outdoor sites. Field experiences are carefullyintegrated with conceptual and theoretical aspects in five program areas: paddling,climbing, ropes course work, nordic skiing, and backcountry travel.

PARAMEDICThis rigorous program prepares Emergency Medical Technicians for National RegistryCertification as Paramedics.
