Robert Pura, President

Alumni PrOFileKaren Knight ’87Outdoor instructorWhen Karen Knight came to GCC, shealready held a B.S. degree in Therapeutic& Outdoor Recreation from SpringfieldCollege. While a student there, she hearda speaker talk about GCC’s OutdoorLeadership Program and it wascompelling enough to have Karen laterenroll in the program and receive herOLP certificate from GCC in 1987. From there, she worked for a bike touring company inNew Hampshire, then as a sea kayak instructor in Maine. That evolved into an interest infreestyle canoeing; she was a 5-time national champion in that sport until her retirement fromcompetition.

The impressive activities of this alum caught the attention of GCC and Karen was invited backto teach sea kayaking and adaptive skiing in the OLP.

Karen now lives in Texas and travels throughout North America teaching/guiding canoeing andkayaking. After 20 years of working in the outdoor industry, she wouldn’t change a thing.

We apologize but sometimescourses are cancelled.Massachusetts state law requires the Continuing Educationprograms to operate at no cost to (with no tax support from)the Commonwealth. The decision to cancel is made at theclose of the posted registration period and before classesmeet and is based on fully paid fees on that date.

We attempt to reach everyone in a cancelled class bytelephone or postcard so they can choose another course ortell us that they would like a refund. Completing registration ontime helps the college avoid unnecessary class cancellations.

Know your second choice this Summer!
