I encourage you to try a "propeller" - a question intended to sparkconversations with your children. Try it around the dinner table tonight!

HEAD LICEWe have had several cases of head lice in the last few weeks.Your child may have receivedan exposure notice from theoffice. Lice, which are acommon age-old pest, areeasily transferred from personto person. All age groups andlocalities are susceptible.Cleanliness does not seem tobe a significant factor; lice areattracted to all children and are more frequentlytransmitted through combs and brushes. Baseball hatsare also popular places for head lice.

Detection - How to spot lice:Nits (eggs). Nits look similar to very small grains of rice and areattached to the shaft of the hair. They do not dislodgeeasily. They feel like a small grain of sand, but will notmove if flicked with the finger. Lice. Lice are small, gray and have six legs. They caneasily crawl from head to head. Unusual scratching anditching of the scalp, especially behind the ears, mayindicate the presence of lice.

Treatment: Wash the childs hair with a head lice shampoo. It isessential to follow treatment directions recommended byyour physician or pharmacist. In addition, consult a

physician or pharmacist regarding the treatment of familymembers. Repeat treatment in 10 days. Comb the hair with a head lice comb to remove the nits. Wash allaffected combs, brushes, baseball hats, clothing andbedding in hot soap and water (sheets, blankets, towels, etc.) and dry in the sun if possible. Special sprays areavailable at the drugstore to spray the furniture and rugsin the home, and the upholstery in the car.

Please inform your child that sharing hats, hairbrushes or other items that come in contact with the head is likely tospread head lice. Please have your child check in theoffice before returning to his/her class . Your child will bereadmitted to school after an inspection reveals that no

nits or lice remain in the hair. If you detect that your childhas lice, please report it to the school office. Thank youfor your cooperation.

TRUANCY AND WHAT IT MEANSCompulsory attendance is the law in California from agesix until the age of eighteen (Education Code: 482600).

The CCSS is a nation-wide effortto ensure that all of our students have the skills necessary to succeed in a global economy.

In order to implement these new standards effectively, beginning in Fall 2014, the District is in immediateneed of additional non-fiction materials in all of our schools. partnership with CUSD, CEEF launched the 2013 Books for a Better Future Campaign at its annual Gala on March 9 th. Tal of this campaign is to provide all schools with full classroom sets for every grade level, small group reading sets for everyade level, and read-aloud texts for the primary grade levels. This 10-week campaign will run through CEEFs annual Golf urnament, to be held this year at the Golf Club of Boulder Ridge on June 3 rd.
