1 IntroductionGaruda is an advanced and high performance SAE J2534 based VehicleComunication Interface (VCI) supporting CAN and KWP communications. We

Thank you for selecting Garuda VCI for your Vehicle Communction Interfaceneeds.

We would like to mention here the possible Garuda VCI usages:

Vehicle Diagnostics ECU Reprograming ECU Calibration Custom applications using Passthru APIs based on SAE J2534

We see Garuda usefull in Production, EOL and After market VCI needs.

1.1 Vehicle Networks Supported CAN (supporting both 11 and 29 bit identifiers) ISO 15765 ISO 14230 (KWP2000)

1.2 Garuda Connection Provides USB 2.0 communication for fast downloads (operates at full

network speed with fast and efficient data transfers). USB cable includedwith this product can be used to connect to the PC.

Connects to the vehicle network on SAE J1962 connector via theproprietary DLC cable, included with this product.

3 Garuda Hardware Specifications3.1 Power Supply

Operates on voltage range of 8 32 VDC with a nominal voltage of 12 /24 VDC

Power Consumption (Nominal): 80 mA @ 12 V3.2 Hardware Attributes

3.3 Status IndicatorsGaruda has three status LEDs that indicate activity of the following functions:

USBOFF Garuda has NOT established a connection to PC.

ON Garuda has established a connection to PC and Active.

LinkOFF Vehicle network link is NOT established

Flash Vehicle network link has been established and Active.

PowerOFF NOT connected to a power source.

ON Power source connected and active.

3.4 Power and Network Connections3.4.1 OBD II CablePower for Garuda unit and vehicle network access is provided via ProprietaryDLC Cable, which can be connected to the J1962 connector on the vehicle.

3.4.2 Custom CableA custom cable may also be used to provide power to Garuda unit and toestablish network connections to the vehicle via the DB-15 female connectionwith Garuda unit. Extreme caution is suggested with respect to Power andNetwork connections. Refer section 2.3 for Pin assignment.

4 Installation and SetupStep1:Connect Garuda VCI using the USB Cable to your PC / Laptop. Ensure that theUSB LED is ON.

Step 2:Insert the Garuda Installation CD provided with the product. Double click onthe DE Garuda.exe and follow the screens below:

Click Next to continue installation.

Enter your Name and Company details, click Next to continue installation.

Select the Installation directory, click Next to continue installation.

Click Next to continue installation.

Installation is in Progress.

Installation completed. Click Finish to exit.

Now Garuda J2534 libraries are installed and you are now ready to proceedwith your application to use Garuda.

5 Software SetupOnce the DE Garuda is successfully installed on the your system following filescould be located in installation path,

6 Garuda Reflash - OptionalTo upgrade the firmware for Garuda, follow the steps below.

Step 1:Go to Program files and select the GarudaReflash application,

Step 2:Select the .debf file located in the installation path of DE Garuda. Click onReflash.

Wait for sufficient time (Approximately 10 sec) to allow OS to load USB driversfor bootloader mode. The progress bar shows the flashing progress as shownabove.

CAUTION: Do not remove USB cable while flashing is in progress.

Step 3:After successful flashing, the message appears as shown below.

Note: If the Reflashing fails, please power cycle the hardware and repeat the steps 1 and 2as detailed above. If the problem persists please contact the DE Technical support team.
