If you would like to explore the possibility of becoming Catho-lic or if you are Catholic and want to better understand your faith, we invite you to join us on a journey of discovery. We journey together and that is exactly what the RCIA is all about, journeying together toward a deeper relationship with Christ and a deeper understanding of our Catholic faith. Contact Fr. Arbutina, Nate Sarver, and Tony Sabo who will formally profess their faith in our Church this coming Holy Saturday, April 20. Pray that the Lord will always keep them in the hallow of his hands.

A fool’s awakening In every life there are defining moments when we (finally) grow up. The witty and wise Brian Doyle recalls one such moment in an essay in The Christian Century [February 19, 2014].

It was a summer afternoon. His father announced that cousins were coming from Connecticut for dinner the following Sunday to their New York home. Young Brian had plans and made clear his unhappiness at having to change them. His dad said something calm and reasona-ble; Brian responded rudely. His mother responded quiet-ly but sharply; Brian said something “breathtakingly self-ish.” His sister said something gentle and kind; Brian said something cutting and sneering and angry. And in that moment, facing his dad, mom and sister, young Brian “realized I was being a fool.” The middle-age, more mature and considerably wiser Brian remembers: “It wasn’t that I was embarrassed, though I was embarrassed, later. It was more like for a second I saw who I actually was rather than who I thought I was, or wanted to be, or wanted other people to think I was. I understood, dimly, for an instant — I believe for the first time in my life — that I was being a fool. “I kept on being a fool, of course. You cannot escape yourself that quickly, not as a teenager, or later either, it turns out. Often you keep playing a bad hand even when you know it’s a terrible hand and you should laugh and throw down your cards and say something self-deprecating and apologize and tiptoe into the next mo-ment. Often you stay inside the prison of your confidence and ostensible dignity even as you peer through the bars, mortified. “As I remember I stormed off and the world spun on relentlessly through the stars and the cousins came over and we all grew much older,” he writes. His family moved from their New York house a long time ago. But Brian Doyle imagines that there may be living in their old house, “at this very moment, a seething teenager, sitting at [our old table], facing the yew hedge, seeing a hint of who he might grow up to be, if he can stop being a fool. With all my heart, I wish him well.” For the young Brian Doyle, that moment of recogni-tion of his selfishness and rudeness is his moment in the “pig sty.” The prodigal (probably no older than Brian) final-ly realizes how irresponsible and foolish he has been when he’s finally reduced to feeding another man’s pigs. We all have those “pig sty” epiphanies: when we finally face the mess our self-ishness, our insensitivity, our dishonesty have made of our lives and the lives of those we love. Lent calls us to em-brace God’s grace: grace that enables us to lift our-selves out of the mud of our sins to reconnect again with family and friends, grace that empowers us to jettison our selfishness and deceptions and re-create our broken lives in the healing peace of the Risen Christ.

Dear Parishioners: Wednesday, April 10, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. is the Bishop’s “The Light is on for You” evening. All four churches will be open for the Sacrament of Penance. There are also additional noon confessions each Satur-day during Lent, please check the bulletin. The clergy team is also making the sacrament available for all the children in Religious Education. Please pray for those who will be baptized and those Christians who will become members of our church at the Easter Vigil. They are: St. Cecilia – Tony Sabo and Nate Sarver; St. Felix – Matthew Arbutina; Saints Peter and Paul – Rachel Brieve, Grant Fetrow, Rolando Gacad, and Aaliyah McGinnis How is your Lent going? Remember if you fall, pick yourself up, gently dust yourself off and resume your journey with your eyes fixed on Jesus. As we think about the Passion of Jesus, there might be some aspect, a detail in the story that is particularly meaningful for you this year. You might see a parallel in your life or someone you love. This is a great blessing. Anything we can do to connect ourselves to Jesus’ passion will only make us stronger and help make His love ever more personal and real. Support for both Fish Fries has been outstanding. Great work, everyone!! Thanks to all the wonderful customers and thanks to the wonderful volunteers who make this work so well. You'll be transformed through insights into this most privileged and inti-mate encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ. Participants in this seven-part series will see (on our beautiful new 72 inch screen) how the Mass brings us out of the fallen world and into the heavenly realm; how it resonates with a call from God and a response from his people, the Church; and, most importantly, how we are intimately joined with the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus through the Holy Eucharist.

When you come to St. Cecilia’s for fish on Friday, why not plan to spend some time with the Lord either before or after you have your dinner. The Church will have adoration of the Blessed Sacra-ment from 11 AM until 7 PM every Friday of Lent. Our society and our world desperately needs your/our prayers.

PARISH SHARE: The annual Campaign is now un-derway, which helps us to be good stewards of God’s blessings by returning some of those gifts to our parish and the wider Church of Pittsburgh. It’s important to un-derstand that Parish Share funds will NOT be used for the compensation fund to help those who were abused by members of our diocesan clergy, or for related legal ex-penses. Parish Share supports the most pressing needs in our parishes, and all funds raised above our goal of $16,985 will stay right here. Thanks, as always, for your generous support and fidelity to your pledge.

Holy Family Parish and the Holy Name Society sponsor a Holy Thursday Church Walk every year. This year we are happy to extend an invitation to all churches in our group. This is a very popular event and visit-ing our neighboring parishes throughout the diocese is a tradi-tion we hope to continue for years to come. The Holy Name Society sponsors the bus and all seats are usually filled! This year we will leave from Ss. Peter and Paul after the 7:00 Mass on Holy Thursday. The churches we will be visiting are St Catherine in the South Heights, Good Samaritan, Our Lady of Peace, and the four churches in our grouping. We need to know how many people so we're able to accommodate all "walkers". A sign up sheet is available in the back of church or just call the office and give your name.
