Say No to Conservative Good Neighbours

Victimised!A local girl went to our local town centre for the protest against conservative. In her interview she stated that she went because she has had enough just like the rest of us, she also said that she would like a lot of things to change, to find out exactly what she would like to change and why she thinks that they should be no longer in power of our government then read on for the rest of the story on page 6.

Mrs Smith, Standinig outside her house just hours after the crime.

Lynn and Carl Smith are just two nice neighbours to many people on Barcheston Road, Weoley Castle. But on the 29th Sep-tember they were victimised by many lads, who tried to break into their house.

It was just a normal night for most, but it was all go-ing on for the road of Barcheston. Mr James Winkett who was a witness to the crime that took place, when inter-viewed said “I was just visiting my friend and there was a group of about 7-8 boys putting on masks, scarfs and balaclava’s”

When asked if he was frightened he replied “Well of course I was they looked straight at me as I was about to get in my car, and I felt fear for my life, I did not know what they were planning. So me and my friend decided to go back into the house and lock up when we was getting through the door” Mr Winkett was lucky to have escaped these hooligan, he went on to say “They were shouting ‘dip, dip’ so me and my friend ran up the stairs grabbed the phone and was about to call the police. All of a sudden we heard the banging of gates and smashing of windows and the all of a sudden we could hear the screeching of a car so we rushed to the front bed-room window and saw a car racing up the road, so we ran outside to see if the neighbours were okay.” The brave Mr Winkett, went outside to see if the neigh-bours were okay and stayed around to give a statement. “The police came and asked me and my friend questions asking what we had seen and heard and if needed could we be witnesses if needed, we said we would be happy to oblige. ”Another witness a Miss Jodie O’Toole said “it all seemed to happen so fast and I’m now a bit worried to go out of a night even though it didn’t happen to me it still worries me. I’m extra careful when I go out and of a night-time before I leave my I have to now make sure that front door and back door are locked up, I also won’t leave any windows open overnight anymore” It just goes to show that anyone can be victimised.

From the 29th of August 2010, the bus route 21 was completely taken out and this bus was the only bus that goes from Bartley green through Weoley Castle, Selly Oak, Harborne and then to Birmingham Town. The bus route was cut because of its unreliability. The route has also been half replaced, and this is the thing that has been annoying the locals of Weoley Castle because the buses that have replaced the 21 are the 448, which now goes from Bartley Green through Weoley Castle, Selly oak, Harborne, Bearwood and West Bromwich. This bus also only comes every 30 minutes so if you miss one then you have to wait ages in what sometimes is very bad weather such as rain, wind and even some-times worse. The other bus to replace the 21 is the X64, which is a quicker way to get to Birmingham Town centre because it is a limited stop bus; this goes from Rubery through to the reservoir in Bartley Green then to Weoley Castle, through to Selly oak and straight down the Bristol road through to town. A Local woman Ellice Birch said “I often catch the bus and the one thing that annoys me about them is that they are unreliable, I can be waiting around for over an hour. I also find it worst in Weoley castle now that they have changed all the routes. I think that it would help if they put more buses on so that they would be more reli-able and would actually come on time.” The buses are annoying all of the locals, and they are also on about doing a petition to get the buses back to how they were just 2 months ago, there will be updates on this in next week’s issue.

Weoley Castle has a high crime rate so it is no wonder that the youth of today are frightened by the dark.In an interview with Kirsty Holsey, age 15 has shown that it doesn’t matter whether you are a teenager or a pensioner. Anyone can be scared of the dark and all the people and things in the dark. Miss Holsey explained “I do not go out in the dark very often, the reasons for this is because it is dark and I cannot trust the peo-ple that are out at these times.” When asked whether she finds it wrong to stereotype people on what they are wearing, for example hoodies. “No I do not think that it is wrong to stereotype people because of what they are wearing because I think that there must be a valid reason for the stereotype.” However she did say that she does think that there are plenty of street lamps. Although it is not everyone who is scared of the dark or going out in the dark. An interview with Susan Holsey, age 39 showed us that it is not all older people who are frightened by the people in the dark, she said “I still go out of a night-time even if there are supposedly ‘criminals’ out there, however I rarely go out on my own and I just be careful and cautious when I do, I don’t think that people should be stereotyped on the things that they wear but it does seem to be the common trend for their behaviour.” It just shows that we do not need to be scared of the night-time we should just be careful and weary about out surroundings.

It may be the opposite to what a majority of people in England may be thinking but the new government is not all bad, although with the changing climate of today’s economy it certainly isn’t all good either. The conservative party decided to make the main theme of the conference to be about England being greener. It was our very own David Cameron who said he wants to be the ‘Greenest Government ever’ He said “We’ve got a real opportunity to drive the green economy-to have green jobs, green growth, and make sure that we have our share of the industries of the future.” This is one of the reasons that the Conservative party have been voted into power, I think it can be agreed that this is a step in the right direction for Conservative. This may be one of the only good decisions to come from them lately. There are also many expectations to come from Andy Atkins and ‘Friends of the Earth’ included in this is Invest at least £60 million in upgrading UK ports to ensure a strong manufacturing base for off-shore renewable energy; Set more ambitious recycling targets. Friends of the Earth report last month said that this could create more than 50,000 new recycling jobs, and Back Rob Flello MP’s Sustainable Livestock Bill which will tackle the major green-house gas emissions and deforestation caused by the UK’s dependence on imported feeds for livestock, as well as supporting planet-friendly UK farming and domestic feed production. This is a lot to ask from our new government but there has been certain promises and deals made so now it is just a waiting game.
