Dear Parents and Carers,
School Uniform
A reminder to all parents that South School Beanies are available from our clothing shop here at school and are proving to be very popular.
Please ensure that students are dressed in their full winter uniform including ties and the correct jumpers and jackets. Also a timely reminder to ensure all articles of clothing are labelled so if lost, items can be returned to their owner.
Yr 6 to Yr 7 Transition
If you are a parent of a Yr6 student and haven’t returned you expression of interest for high school, we ask that you do so as soon as possible.
If you require another EOI, please call the front office and another will be sent home with your child.
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Student reports will be sent home on Monday of week 10 and parent/teacher meetings will be held on the following day, Tuesday 2nd July. Teachers have time slots scheduled from 3:40 until 6:30pm on that afternoon and evening and if you would like to book a time to speak with your child’s teacher we ask that you please phone the school office on 6742 1899 to making a booking. If there are no times left that are convenient to you, please leave a message and your child’s teacher will get back to you regarding an alternative time and day that suits you both.
Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Competition
Dorothea MacKellar poetry workshops were held yesterday and were of great benefit to our up and coming poets!
Gunnedah Eisteddfod
South School received high praise from both the speech and drama adjudicator Annaliese McCarthey and the convenor of Speech and Drama, Mrs Jenny Darley.
While visiting our school yesterday afternoon and running a session with our most motivated performers, both ladies expressed not only their appreciation for our students’ participation, but commented on the high, high standard of performance seen in all sections this year from our students. Mrs Darley said she had watched all of yesterday morning’s performances and that they were ‘thoroughly entertaining’.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful students and teachers who performed.
A huge thank you also goes to Mrs Larni Christie, our speech and drama teacher. Over the past term, Mrs Christie has assisted teachers with class performances as well as training the students from the Drama Club at lunchtimes and coaching and rehearsing with 109 individual performers who practised in their own time.
Thank you Mrs Christie, for helping our students shine!
I hope everyone has a great long weekend, enjoyed with
friends and family.
With kind regards,
Nicki Walsh

3G NAIDOC Preparation:
3G are very excited about the upcoming NAIDOC celebrations at South as we are eagerly preparing a song to perform. Our song is based on Aboriginal people’s special connection with the land. In the song we use some Gamilaraay language along with the English translation. We have been investigating why the Aboriginal people have such a special connection with the land.
We are working with the amazing Mr Steve McCauley who has given up his time to develop and practise this song. If you are keen to see some great music performed by a bunch of dedicated students, then keep your eyes peeled for 3G at the NAIDOC celebrations.
