Over the years Roger Gronlund had built a life, and had jobs where “everything was behind a drawing board.” His art will be on display for the public to view today and tomorrow (from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at The Colony, 431 Prairie Center Drive, where Gronlund is a resident. The landscapes and figures on display are what remain of his artwork. Some show the places he’s visited. The area around Lake Superior near Bayfield, Wis., he described as his favorite place to draw. Though watercolor painting and furniture restoration have been his lifelong hobbies, Gronlund’s career also involved design. After a stint in the Army, he attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, in the late ’40s. His main job was with Honeywell, for 26 years, he said. There he did concept illustration. He explained that engineers and scientists would figure something they wanted and he would sketch it out for presentation. “We did everything there,” he said, including portraits and brochures. Colony to showcase resident’s art

He’s been drawing since he was a little kid, when he lived on a farm near Luck, Wis. Over the years Roger Gronlund had built a life, and had jobs where “everything was behind a drawing board.”

His art will be on display for the public to view today and tomorrow (from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at The Colony, 431 Prairie Center Drive, where Gronlund is a resident.
