VITICULTURE AND OENOLOGY

The terroir of Quinta Nova includes exceptional characteristics as regards its soils and micro-climate, which lead to a low concentration of humidity and excellent sun exposure, allowing for a higher concentration of sugars and colour in the grapes, as well as faster maturing and better quality grape musts. But as well as the natural conditions, the quality of the Quinta Nova wines is also explained by the balance struck between the cultivation techniques and the region's wine-making traditions, the meticulous care put into the production process, and the ongoing winemaking innovation to suit the market trends.

ROBERT PARKER’S WINE ADVOCATE

Sold in 25 countries, especially in USA, Brazil, Switzerland, United Kingdom and Russia, Quinta Nova intends to increase its annual production from the current 300,000 bottles to satisfy the growing demand for wines of exceptional character and quality from its commercial partners.

Robert Parker projected the creation of The Wine Advocate in the early 1970s, when he practised law in Baltimore, Maryland. At that time, Parker realised that a lot of what was written about wines was “corrupted” by the financial interests of some of the greatest wine writers of that era. Robert thus projected a publication free of financial or business interests, a truly independent guide, aimed only at serving the interests of consumers. Thus, The Wine Advocate was born in 1978 and continues to the present day to be a major world reference.

WINES ENCAPSULATING THE SOUL OF THE DOURO

In the ten years of its existence, the Quinta Nova project has steadily and surely acquired a leading national and international position, thanks to the excellence of its wines. In addition to the many dozens of awards received since 2004, in one of the world's most prestigious wine magazines, the “Wine Advocate”, American critic Robert Parker recently listed 4 Quinta Nova wines in his Best Of 2013, considering the Quinta Nova wines as the best top-of-the-range collection in Portugal.

QUINTA NOVA

Luísa Amorim, from the 4th generation of the Amorim family, passionately leads the Quinta Nova project.

QUINTA NOVA OLIVE OIL

The olive oil produced at Quinta Nova is the result of manual harvesting and a meticulous selection of the olives (verdeal, cordovil and bical varieties). Careful cold extraction results in a clear liquid, with a healthy colour, intense aroma and an elegant feel on the palate. As such we carry on a centuries-old tradition in the Douro region.

ALENTEJOPORTUGAL

1 9F o r e s t r y

A predominantly agricultural region which is a popular tourist destination, the Alentejo plains comprise the second essential facet of the Américo Amorim Group's activities linked to Nature. This is the centre of the cork industry, dryland and irrigated farming, cattle farming and the hunting and tourism activity.

Around 3,500 hectares are covered with holm oaks, which are ideal for the production of acorns, the natural food of one of the most emblematic species of the region, the black pig.

CORK OAK AND HOLM OAK EXPLORATION

An excellent example of sustainable and environmentally friendly development, the exploitation of Cork Oaks for the production of cork is one of the backbones of the local economy. The Américo Amorim Group has vast cork oak woodland covered by these trees, which enable the annual production of 40,000 arrobas (unit of measurement = 15kg) of cork.Cork extraction is the main activity on our estates. This is why we endeavour to ensure a constant investment in the maintenance and renewal of cork oak forests and the improvement of productivity.
