Jesuit Education
Based on the legacy of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and shared by a globalcommunity of over 60 high schools in the U.S. and hundreds around the world, Jesuit schools are communities of faith, scholarship and service. The intellectualand religious values that motivate the Prep’s mission as a Jesuit school guide eachindividual’s total development. We challenge all our students to reflect, question, learn, pray, love, serve, lead.
The core of Ignatian Spirituality is rooted in our growing awareness that God canbe found in every person, every place, every situation.
Jesuit education challenges students to engage the world through analysis of context, experience, and to reflect for the sake of action.

A Community of Faith
Rooted in the Catholic tradition, we look to Jesus Christ as the revelation of God and humanity. We seek to foster knowledge and love of God and neighbor, and welcome the gifts that non-Catholic members of our community contribute to that mission. We encourage all members of our community to evaluate dominant cultural values in the context of their faith.
The Campus Ministry Department offers a number of events, activities andprograms to nurture and strengthen the spiritual growth of all our students, regardless of their religious background.
Prayer and WorshipRoman Catholic services are offered throughout the school year. An interfaith celebration is held each year.
Retreat ProgramsThere are specific retreat programs for each grade level. The junior year Emmaus retreat is by far our most popular retreat. On average each year 90-95% of juniors choose to make the Emmaus retreat.
Leadership OpportunitiesAll aspects of our faith formation program are served by student leaders. These leaders work closely with the Campus Ministry Department to help facilitate our programs. Students consistently share their spiritual gifts with each other.
20% of the Fordham Prepstudent population doesnot identify themselves as Roman Catholic.

A Community of Scholarship
Jesuit education reflects the conviction that the study of great ideas is inextricablylinked to the formation of character. Our program of studies encompasses morethan the acquisition of knowledge; it fosters academic discipline and encourages reflection in the pursuit of excellence.

A Community of Service
St. Ignatius’ exhortation that “love ought to manifest itself in deeds rather than words” is embodied today in the call to be men and women for others. As a community of service, we put our faith into action by being companions to our brothers and sisters in need and by working to promote justice.
Fordham Prep is committed to fostering in its students the belief that the gifts they have been given should be put in service of all God’s creation, especially people in need. To achieve the goal of making service an integral part of every student’s experience, Fordham Prep has a four-year service requirement for all students.
• Various events throughout the year raise student awareness of social justice issues, including an annual school-wide social justice assembly, Hunger Awareness Month, a school-wide food drive to benefit local soupkitchens, the Ignatian Family Teach-In and the Pax Christi Good Friday Peace Walk.
• Each summer, groups of students and faculty travel to Camden (NJ), the Appalachian Mountain Region in Tennessee, and South Americafor weeklong experiences of service and prayer in communion with people who live in poverty.
Each year, seniorsgive over 17,000 hoursin service

As a Jesuit, college preparatory school, Fordham Prep’s mission is to inspire young men to reflect,
to question, to learn, to pray, to love, to serve, to lead. Since 1841, we have based our challenging
curriculum and pursuit of human and academic excellence on a foundation of Catholic faith and
principles. We seek to be one community created from a broad spectrum of ethnic, racial, geographic,
and socio-economic backgrounds. We strive to include qualified students of limited financial
resources by providing substantial financial assistance. Our faculty and staff dedicate themselves
to a caring and dynamic interaction with students both inside and outside the classroom, a
characteristic of Jesuit education for over 450 years. We educate our students to be men for
others: spiritually motivated, intellectually accomplished and committed to promoting justice.
